I have been playing for 15 years now and I have owned Martins & Taylor Acoustic guitars. But I have to say that when I picked up this guitar, I was shocked at the full sound that this round shallow bowl shape guitar gave off. Laminated spruce top and it resonates quite well. A good guitar whether you are a beginner or like me, a music artist looking for a back-up guitar. This Ovation won't let you down. I plugg'd into an Marshall acoustic amp and this acoustic sung loudly and clearly. It will cut through and be heard.

So I went into my guitar center and it didn't have many acoustics in there that we're worth the money most of them being pre-owned and very faded or missing strings and very detuned. I picked this one up and loved the neck on this guitar because it was like my electric guitar and played on it for about 30 minutes then decided to buy it. After I took it home I realized how rediculously high the action is on this guitar I could probably stick a textbook between the strings in the neck which makes for a worthless guitar because of how high the action is. I took it to guitar center for them to lower the action but even with it lowered the guitar is very uncomfortable to play and puts a lot of cuts in your fingers. I don't reccommend this guitar unless you like your strings with a rediculously high action it isn't a very good guitar.

Outstanding For a Low Price

By

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

Got this guitar back in May 2012. Tried out several guitars in same price range and this one I kept going back too. The first thing that draws you too it is the outstanding appearance. The bright red color blending with the other woods used. Now to the main points that matter. Excellent sound both unplugged and plugged. The strings sold on the guitar are easy to play, almost as easy to use as the ones on my Ibanz electric. The electronics have worked out great on several different amps used. Neck is a little narrower than some of the others I tried and have but easy adjustment after some practice. Finally, the sound and electronics (forgot, nice built in tuner)and ease of playing. This one guitar provides outstanding sound and fits into anyone's tight budget for a quality guitar.

Amazing Guitar

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

No competition, this was the only one that made a lasting impression on me at Guitar Center. I love the sound and the look, and the rounded back. It sounds good plugged in or not, and the price is awesome. Check out the rounded back before you buy it, some people don't like that part. Otherwise, go for it!!

Good

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

Fantastic sounding guitar. Beautiful finish, and a very slim neck, somewhat uncommon on acoustics but feels great. What prevented me from rating this guitar 5 stars was that is was a little dark sounding for me. This is a good thing if one plays in standard, this gives it a very full sound, but once you bring the tuning down (in my case a fifth down [BEADF#B]), the sound starts to really mud up. If you play in standard and want a ballsy acoustic with a big low end then this is the guitar for you. However if you play in tunings lower than standard and want to hear each note crystal clear then I would look for a brighter sounding guitar.

Maybe it Was Excellent Customer Service, More Than Likely This Guitar Sounds Beautiful

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

My story is different. I saved up for months to buy an upgrade to my current Fender Squire. Reading specifications online, I thought there was a MIM Strat worth the money. With money in hand I intended to buy that MIM Strat. My Dad--who has excellent ears for music--and I tested two of the MIM Strats I intended to buy but neither had the sound quality matching by Squire. I was disappointed and tested out several other electric guitars, but nothing could beat my Squire. We were going to leave when I told my Dad to check out the Acoustic room because it has a nice vibe. Once in the Acoustic room my Dad and I began talking about the difference between Taylor and Martin. An awesome Sales Person in the room began discussing Taylor and Martin qualities. I'm not a fan of Martin, but I have thought about purchasing a Taylor. We tested several Taylor Guitars but they just did not feel right. Then I thought of Bob Marley's Redemption Song on Youtube where he is playing with an Ovation. So, I ask the guy if they have any; this is the first one he pulled out. As soon as I played it, it was just heavenly. It had the sound I remember Taylor having. It felt great in my hands. It was perfect. Given the price and the fact I was more than willing to spend more for a regular acoustic or an electric guitar, I could not leave without it. It had the sound I was looking for with the ability to be amplified with a price that could not be better. Some things to point out though. Many have already mentioned this but while this Ovation does sound fine as is, the action is a little high and you should probably have it set up by a professional. The Ovation comes with its own tuner which allows for standard as well as altered tunings. More than likely you are going to rely on this tuner because for some reason conventional tuners have a hard time identifying the frequency (the note). I have tried two already and with the exception of the low E and G, the tuners were all over the place in gauging the tuning. I'm pretty sure Ovation is aware of this and that is partially why they have one on the guitar. Other than that, this is a helk of deal! Thanks GC and Thanks awesome sales dude!

This is a good guitar

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for a specific purpose. It was purchased so that I would have a guitar that would first of all not be susceptible to the dry elements of the Northern desert where I live. A guitar with a solid top cracks in the dry weather and the neck usually bows to the point of ruining the guitar. I also bought it because of the electronics. We have a fun "open mike" night at a local legion where we amateurs like to go and strut our stuff. This Ovation fit the bill. It has a ply top yet it produces a very nice clear sound with quite a bit of volume. The electronics are excellent in that they produce a clear sound through the amplifier. It is a nice idea to play it some before you take that step. I did find some information online about adjusting but this is best left to a pro. If you do try to adjust it yourself, there are a couple of spacers under the saddle that can be removed to lower the action. BE VERY CAREFUL. The saddle is integrated to the electronics. I noticed the previous reviews are posted be women who buy this guitar. I understand this because the neck is very narrow compared to my Epiphone masterbuilt. Small fingers would help but it also causes me to be more precise in my finger placement. It is a very good guitar for the money.

Ovation

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

I went to Guitar center looking around saw this guitar bought it on a whilm because I got a great deal on it. I have tried every way in the world not to like it. I did nt like the color but my 20 year old son said it looks kool so I called my pal Antony told him about it, and he said plug the guitar into the your amp then put your earphones on and play it. Keep in mind I own several other guitars but playing this guitar thru your amp is down right pretty, yes the back is round and it takes some getting used too but man the soud is nice. A great guitar to play on stage for not really a lot of money

I was surprised!

By

from McQueeney, TX.

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar since 1965 and have owned many brand names. I just retired my 1972 Ovation and decided to get another one if they played as well. When I picked it up and played it, I was surprised to hear the good sound, the action very good and the tone very nice. I play it more than the Taylor I have and this Ovation actually has better elects for recording than the Taylor- go figure. * If the guitar slides around on you, you can apply a self sticking skid pad on the bottom and/or back. Looks like I will be spending another few decades with Ovation.

This Girl LOVES her guitar!!!! ;o)

By

from Lyman, South Carolina

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar Nov. 6th, 2010. I am 33 years old and a life long lover of music. I am a recording artist, worship leader, song writer & pianist. BUT have ALWAYS wanted to learn guitar. I took my dad with me to pick one out because he's played for 50 years now. I tried several at Guitar Center but kept coming back to this one. So did he. Which is surprising for all the choices that Guitar Center offers. I knew I couldn't justify spending a TON of money on something that I wasn't sure I'd stick with. But, also, I knew if it wasn't quality and didn't play well then I'd never have a chance at learning. THIS guitar met all my wishes and expectations... Pretty, affordable, and wonderfully easy to play. (Though I must note that my dad lowered the action on the bridge for me a little. It made a ton of difference! But still, this guitar played easier then the rest that I tried at the store, previous to lowering the action.) I actually find it 'better' for females because it is smaller then regular guitars and therefore easier to hold and get your hand around. Seldom do I ever notice it slipping off my leg. I have guys on my worship team at church that own Taylors and they 'choose' mine to play when I have it there. Everyone that's tried it, has loved it! I wouldn't trade it for the world! And have to FORCE myself to put it away and stop playing! ;o)

Not Very Female Friendly

By

from TN

Comments about Ovation Celebrity GC057M Mid Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar:

I am just a beginner looking for a good guitar to learn on. I bolught this from a friend thinking that I had a real deal. I may have, but after eagerly trying to use this guitar for several weeks I became frustrated. The curved, slippery back made it difficult for me to hold in the correct position. It seemed that "the girls" didn't get along well with the design. My friend who sold it to me later told me that his wife had not enjoyed playing it for that same reason. I did find out later that it was fine as long as I was using a strap and standing. I purchasesd a "normal" designed Alvarez from Guitar Center and am loving learning on it.
