I owned this guitar for about 8 months - definitely enjoyed for the length of time I owned it. Action was quite high, so had it lowered - once it was, played beautifully. The sound on the other hand, is decent unplugged. Don't expect to get a rich classical sound in this guitar. But once you plug it into an amp, it really sings. Get this guitar if you're interested in a plugging in an acoustic/crossover classical-style guitar (especially if moving over from steel strings or electrics) and you're uncomfortable with the wider classical necks. If you're looking for a really good classical guitar, you should look elsewhere. I traded in mine only because I wanted a "real" classical guitar that sounded great unplugged - it was a move borne out of preference and not out of dissatisfaction with the guitar. Check it out, I say, especially at this price point!

I got this guitar for my studio to teach with. If you are looking for a "Classical" electric acoustic guitar, this is not it. It has a shallow plastic round back, which I guess Ovation fans are crazy about, and doesn't have the resonance/acoustics you expect from a "classical" guitar. Plus, the rounded back keeps slipping off my thigh when I played with my footstool. However, it sounded pretty good when I plugged it in to my mixer with some lexicon reverbs and strummed some bossa-novas and jazz. The neck is narrower than Classical guitar's neck and VERY thin. I guess it's good for plugged live performance and recording, but NOT for classical. Oh, by the way, the built-in tuner was neat!!

Very Happy with the Ovation CC059

Pros

  • Excellent condition

Cons

  • Needed New Strings

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

Wish I could give this a 6 star! My guitar arrived in 3 bus. days(as promised)foam wrapped and double-boxed in a well-packed Ovation shipping box. My nervousness turned to joy when I opened the box and it sparkled in the sunlight like a brand new guitar. I bought it used "Condition Level-3" but it could easily have been a Level-1 guitar. Actually it appeared as though it had never been played and the electronics worked perfectly. It more than exceeded my expectations. This is a professional-grade guitar! Slapped on a new set of strings and plugged it in to hear it realy sing ! This is my 2nd Ovation, I bought my first (a "Balladeer") in 1976 not far from the factory. Did some research & called the factory, gave them the serial # and learned it was made in Oct. of 2012, Wow! less than a year & a half old. Also, the CC059 (Celebrity Classic) will fit perfectly in the Ovation 8117-0 hard-shell case designed for the "super-shallow" bowl. All the MusiciansFriend reps were awesome, and really concerned that I would be staisfied. So I ordered from them the case (arrived today!) thanks M's Friend I'm very happy with the guitar and the service.

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I bought this as a gift for my wife who has wanted an Ovation Guitar for many years. I bought this guitar thinking it was used. But it is in such great condition, I don't think that a new one could have looked any nicer. Thanks Musicansfriend for a beautiful guitar and very fast shipping.

Electric Classical Tone -- NO Feedback!

      By TKHIGGS

      from South of Nashville

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

This guitar is DESIGNED to be played through an amp/sound system. It is not designed to be played as an acoustic. The CC059 has a laminated top because it is designed to be played through an amp at loud volume and not feedback! This is the purpose of this guitar! If you want a "classical guitar" then buy one. If you want classical tone at loud volume, buy this one. This is not a traditional classical guitar... I'm glad. This guitar does what it is designed to do very well at a great price!
On board tuner, 3-band EQ, 1 7/8 neck, No Feedback Design!
Excellent craftmanship. No problems with design, set up, frets, or materials.
You can buy a more expensive electric classical; however, you can't find one that does better than what this guitar is designed to do: Play a "classical" sound through an amp. With the features and quality, why pay more?

      The best

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I've played this guitar at my friend's house, and this is the best nylon guitar I played. It's not exactly a "classical" guitar, but classical is not my style, so it's OK. It has a nice sound, has a chromatic tuner and it is very comfortable.

      A more modern classical

      By T1PSTN-OzI14

      from New Jersey

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

The instrument is well built. The fit and finish are better than you'd expect for the price. The acoustic tone is thinner than a full-sized classical, but the projection is much better than traditional designs. Mine had a small sliver of wood debris in the nut slot for the D string, causing it to buzz like a sitar when played open. I scratched the flake out of there and it's played great ever since. The preamp offers a lot of variation in sound which makes it easy to alter your tone depending on the setting in which you're playing. This is *not* a classical guitar though. It's comfortable; everything on it is lightly closer together. The round back does have a tenency to creep outward on your leg if you play in a seated position, so you may have to jog the bottom of the body closer to you during play. For Bossa Nova and Jazz, this a great guitar with a lot more comfort (once you sand-down the saddle a few millimeters to drop the action) than a standard-built classical in the price range.

A highly playable, versatile gem of an instrument

      By Omnivious

      from Canada

Comments about Ovation CC059 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

This guitar is an excellent and versatile instrument, well suited to both students and professionals alike. To quote my drummer, "If my first acoustic guitar had been this comfortable and easy to play, I'd probably have become a guitarist." As with most Ovations, while this guitar sounds fine for playing solo acoustically, it really shines when plugged in, especially if you know how to use the built in EQ - try it through a small stereo PA or, better yet, a stereo modelling unit plugged into a small stereo PA. Do yourself a favour, and put a set of D'Addario Pro Arte Composite strings on it - you'll be delighted with the tonal improvements.
