Ovation's award-winning multi-soundhole technology is now incorporated into the Applause AE148. Its full, balanced sound is pumped out through the calibrated spruce top and fine-tuned bracing. The Lyrachord body allows for the back of the guitar to be free of reinforcements that can inhibit sound projection. A slim contoured neck allows for fast and effortless playing that suits any style from finger picking to power chords.
Ovation's Slimline pickup captures true acoustic tone and delivers a powerful signal with plenty of headroom to combat feedback in high-volume conditions. The OP-4B active preamp has a gain knob; a battery LED; plus independent bass, mid, and treble EQ sliders.

I received this guitar for christmas and i am very impressed so far. it is very easy easy to play and the shallow cutaway body is very acomodating to any posture you like to play with. The only downfall to the guitar that i see is the electronics ( they dont come out of the body like ovation guitars with the little eject button but they are set into the guitar body which led to the subracted star). The single cutaway body gives you full acess to the higher frets on the neck. the guitar sounds amazing for its relativly low price and i would definatly reccomend buying this APPLAUSE AE148 for those of you who may be confused:applause to ovation is like epiphone to gibson. also the natural color is not the one shown on the website it is NATURAL wood color not a ruby red with black faded edges.

I wouldn't know how this guitar is, because I ordered it almost three months ago for two day delivery and have been getting back order notifications since. I ordered it July 27, then I was told several weeks later that is would not be sent until September 15, then October 15. Now they tell me it wont ship till the end of November. Had I know that I was paying just to look at a picture of it for the next three months I probably would have ordered it some place else. Very dissatisfied.

I love this Guitar, It feals so natural in my hands. If you are on the fence on this I would say Buy it. You wont regret it.
Purchased the Ruby Red Burst and am very happy with it. GC Priced matched as well which makes it extra nice. This guitar has a nice sound with or without an amp. But its nice to have the choice. My friend has the Ovation Celebrity in this same style, and neither one of us can see any difference between the Applause or Celebrity. Nice Guitar, Great buy!
I purchased this guitar as my first electric. My other guitar is a Fender Dreadnought. This has a great tone with or without an Amp. I ordered it, picked it up, and haven't put it down much. It keeps tune real good. Just a little tweak every other day. One thing I like about an electric is that its more forgiving. i.e. on you playing the chord exactly correct. Great guitar, great price.
My cousin, who is an accomplished guitarist, told me he had played this guitar and that I would love it. He was right. I took it out of the box, tuned it up, and it played beautifully. What an amazing sound. The finish is exquisite and the neck is perfect for my short, thick fingers. I've played in all kinds of bands and heard all kinds of acoustic guitars. I would put this guitar up against any of them. I haven't plugged it in to an amp yet, but I'll bet it sounds just as amazing amplified as it does as an acoustic.
I've had this guitar for about 2 months and I absolutely love it. It feels and sounds like an Ovation. If you are not sure about buying this; do it, you won't be disappointed!
I actually bought mine used from Guitar Center. Even as a second hand guitar it plays amazingly. The sound projects so well and you can tell that this is a solidly built instrument. If this is the "value" guitar for Ovation, I can only imagine how well the higher end models play. I am now an Ovation fan for life.
In the late 60s early 70s when Charles Kaman designed the Ovation guitar he hit a winner. This Applause by Ovation is nothing short of a home run. It played great right out of the box. I had to adjust the action a little bit but that was not hard. It has a crisp vibrant full bodied tone. You cant tell that it is a shallow body at all. It sounds just as good unplugged as it does plugged in. The electronics are great and amplify the tone beautifully. I think my wife made a smart buy when she gave me this guitar for our anniversary, I couldn't be happier. It is every bit as good as a more expensive model Ovation. I think it is the best guitar I have had in the whole 18 years I have been playing.
If your on the fence about this one Go For It you wont be disappointed! Great price, Great action, beautiful tone and good looks to boot! My only complaint, the the wooden leaf pattern is an applique, not an inlay. It sits above the surface about 1/16" and will catch fibers on anything but a very fine cleaning cloth. The back is a bit slick and will slide around so get a strap and problem sloved.I have 4 other guitars and this one just became my favorite. Hats off to the Guitar Center, Easy Safe on line purchase fast delivery. Go Ahead...Plug It IN!!
I just got this guitar today (natural) and I've got to say, it's the most amazing guitar I've played in this price range and it even beats some of the more costly one's I tried. I like the super-shallow body! It's a real joy to play (with a strap) but I'm a little iffy on sitting down with it... It can slide around a bit.. but all in all.. fantastic! Before this guitar I was playing an Epiphone PR-150 with a soundhole pickup. While the PR-150 is an AMAZING guitar as well.. the soundhole pickup gave a lot of hum and noise... This guitar gives you the sound from the strings and nothing more (so great!) I'm still playing with the EQ and Compressor settings to dial in the perfect sound but all in all, I'm in love with the way this guitar sounds, but on top of that... It's a work of art! Beautiful! Three Thumbs Up!
This guitar is nearly perfect!!!!! I am absolutely amazed that this was only $250. it feels like a $2500 guitar. the only complaint i have is that the volume knob buzzes a little bit. but can easily be fixed by wedging a small piece from a toothpick between the knob and the screw
