Availability:

Superb style and grace from the masters of plug-and-play acoustics.

The Ovation Standard Elite 6868 AX Acoustic Guitar opens the door to the world of the big Ovation sound without sacrificing any of the essential, unique features. With carefully chosen solid Spruce tops, inlaid epaulets, die-cast chrome tuning machines, and satin finish neck, the Standard Elite sets a new standard for Ovation at the mid-price level.

This Ovation Standard Elite Guitar features a super-shallow cutaway bowl, the famous multi-sound hole technology, and modified bracing to maximize acoustic response. This acoustic-electric crossover starts with a solid spruce top for full-balanced tone and a natural beauty. Scalloped X-bracing offers a fine tune for the instrument's tone. The rosewood fretboard and bridge add crisp, clear sustain to the guitar, so those notes can ring out long and true. The rosette features an inlaid mixture of exotic woods that benefits the tone and will pique the interest of your crowd, appreciating this Ovation guitar's inlaid beauty. Chrome tuning machines, pearl-dot diamond inlays and a satin burst finish dresses the guitar in beauty. At the heart of the Standard Elite 6868 AX lies the impressive OP-PRO preamp system that has made Ovation a household name. Designed in collaboration with Al DiMeola and Melissa Etheridge, the OP-PRO combines state-of-the-art audio quality with guitarist-friendly features for a preamp that should please even the most discriminating player.

Nowadays, purely acoustic guitars are a rarity on stage. Over the last few decades, Ovation has maintained a steady legacy of quality in the acoustic-electric realm. Interesting to note that today, more than 95% of all Ovations sold around the world are acoustic electrics.

  • Awesome

As reviewed by Mark Popovich on 4/21/2010

Recieved guitar in three days. On close inspection no flaws in the finish (perfect). The OP Pro Pre-amp is clear and clean, truly a Pro Sound. Tuner is acurate and easy to use. The Playablity is great. The harmonics ring like a bell. For a mid priced guitar, It plays and sounds like you spent twice as much. I would strongly recomend this guitar to beginers or pros alike.

  • Black Ovation 6868

As reviewed by Greg Wilmoth on 12/17/2010

I am a novice guitar player, so you can take this review for what it's worth, but the Ovation 6868 acoustic-electric is an awesome guitar. I puchased it online and had it delivered to the store, good thing. I went to pick it up and upon pre-inspection, the top was cracked in two places by the bridge. GC sent it back and reordered, no problem there, but the black one apparently is popular and was on backorder. So it was about a 5 or 6 week wait, but it was well worth it. I have always had a thing for Ovations ever since I saw Cat Stevens play one back in the 70's. I have a Balladeer that's over 30 years old which is still beautiful, but I pulled the 6868 out of the box and wow! It's truly a very beautiful guitar, the black version is awesome! When you first play this beauty unplugged there is nothing remarkable about the sound, but it sounds ok. Now plug it in. I have a really old Randall amplifier, but this guitar truly comes alive when it's amplified. The tones are rich and vibrant and with the equalizer you can make some nice sounds. The onboard tuner is spot on with my Snark tuner. For the price I paid for this guitar, I am extremely impressed. It plays really easy and has good action just as is from the factory, the large E has a slight rattle when you hit hard, but otherwise it's just a pleasure to play. If you purchase this guitar, you will not be disappointed. It's such a gorgeous instrument, you'll want to just sit and look at it!
