Combining woody, acoustic tone and solid body.

The Ovation B778 acoustic-electric bass delivers beautiful bass tone and response thanks to its solid spruce top, quintad bracing, and a mid-depth bowl. A comfortable neck and smooth ebony fretboard give this bass a great playing feel. A Tru-Balance bass pickup provides excellent balance between strings and the OP40 preamp system simply leaves other systems back in the 20th century. The EQ has a Mid-Shift switch that moves the center frequency of the mid-band between 400Hz and 900Hz. It also features a Pre-Shape circuit for that extra "cut" you need in live band situations. The ultra-steep notch filter can zap feedback one note at a time. All this control lets you zero in on your perfect personal tone. The Ovation B778's looks are nothing short of jaw-dropping. A beautiful finish is accented by the 5-piece Epaulet surrounding the multi soundhole. Gold tuning machines, mother of pearl fret inlays, and a walnut bridge finish off this gorgeous bass.

  • Volume Please....

As reviewed by Tim on 6/8/2010

Let me just start by saying "I Love Ovation Products" but.... this one has me riding the fence as to whether Ovation should continue making basses. Is it pretty? Yes. Does it sound good through and amp? Absolutely. Would I recommend using this bass acoustically to accompany any other instrument? Probably not. What this bass lacks is definition and presence when "un-plugged". The neck is nice, the body is not too bulky and the fingerboard is what dreams are made of but without an amp, all of the good goes out the window. Practice at home or in a band setting with this bass but be sure to bring your amp, you will need it.

  • Deceiving Looks

As reviewed by Jake on 6/6/2010

OK, so looking at this bass one may think that this may be all looks and no good sound or quality, especially with the plastic-looking back (which I believe is actually fiberglass). But this thing surprises you right when you hear it! The fretboard is really smooth, too, and its compact body makes it quite comfortable. I only have one real problem with it, though, and that's the volume of the sound. It's a good thing this bass has such good electronics, because if you play fingered like I do, it hardly makes a sound, so you'll need to amplify it or use a pick. Other than that, I highly recommend it
