This Orange County Drums and Percussion Venice Bass Drum is crafted with a basswood shell to offer great power, projection, and edgy looks. Pro OCDP drum features include the uniquely offset black lugs (staggered—not directly in line with each other—for a more custom look) and matching wood bass drum hoops.
when i first pulled this kick outta the box (black and white strata 20x20), i looked and it was a 10 lug bass drum the matching kit i have only has an 8 lug bass. so my initial thought was how the bass drums will always have a different tone, but not the case. with an Evans Emad on the batter and a soundhole cut into each from head,i couldnt of asked for a better set of bass drums, punchy and controlled. and yes i'll use the old cliche...these things are cannons! haha.
This is an awesome bass drum that Orange County has ever manufactured. I have played it at my local guitar center, and I just had to get it. But I had to order it online instead. When I got it, It sounded so marvelous, even my sound engineer loves it. I have the 20x20. Best drum and a low price. I recommend this to any player at any level.
I've not had a lot of experience when it comes to this kick but I still have some. I rememeber walking into my local Guitar Center one day and seeing this kick (plus the rest of the kit) and was immediatley drawn to it, the finish was superb and just glowed beautifully. but we all know that's not the key factor though. When i sat down i noticd that they'd put a Remo Ambassador skin on it which to me seemed appropriate considering what sound I was expecting but the sound i got was completely different. Because the drum was 20" X 22" I was expecting a pop kinda sound but instead I got this nice thud, a really thick thud however to me it didn't feel right. Don't get me wrong it sounded great but the sound didn't fit the look if you catch my meaning. I asked the store clerk how easy or difficult it was to maintain. He told me it keeps it's tune very well and just a wipe down with a cloth and it looks good as new. Overall i'd say buy it if you want an extra kick to the OCDP kit you have already but other that well there's no real reason to buy it.
