Overview

The OCDP Maple snare features an outer ply of ash with natural to black burst finish. The inside of the snare is hand-sanded and then sealed to a satin finish. The edges always have a ply of flatness for a true sound and for maximum resonance. The edges are also sanded smooth for a very finished feel. All of OCDP's logo badges are engraved aluminum for a custom look.

Lugs
The lugs are made from an aluminum/zinc alloy that is far stronger than the zinc #3 that virtually all other drum lugs are made of.

Die-Cast hoops
The die-cast hoops are used on the thicker-ply snare drums and the vented drums as these tend to have a lot of ring and the die-cast hoops will help control this.

FEATURES

  • Natural to black burst finish
  • Ash outer ply with maple inner plies
  • Black Nickel plated hardware
  • Offset lugs
  • Die Cast hoops for stronger attack

This Orange County 7x13 Natural Ash Maple Snare has one of the loudest snare cracks out there. I also own a Pearl Masters 6.5x14 All Maple Shell Snare and this Orange County sound so much deeper, tighter, and louder. When I play live with this snare, its the first thing that everyone notices. Perfect for small church playing, concert playing and recording. I've personally heard the Ludwig Black Beauty Snare and still i love this Orange County so much better. Plus, the aluminum/zinc alloy on this snare makes for an ear popping rim shot. The other thing I'm very impressed with is the trick throw-off. Never have I felt such a smooth and easy to adjust throw-off. I haven't found one negative thing about this snare. I'm hoping I won't ever, because this snare so far has been very reliable. And all this not to mention on how beautiful the snare looks. The craftsmanship is genius and this snare isn't too heavy or too light. If you're looking for some of the tightest and loudest snare playing, the Orange County 7x13 Natural Ash Snare is the best out there.

Don't get me wrong this is a beautiful snare drum, BUT it lacks one thing. BODY. I am currently using this as a side snare for a "reggae" sounding snare. But it doesn't even come close to sounding as good to my Pork Pie Vented Maple snare. But I got this for a good deal so i'm not complaining. Overall it's a descent buy if you looking for a cost efficient snare to add to your kit.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I bought the 13 inch natural ash finish and I love it. It sounds great. I use it with my new tama birch/bubinga kit and it fits so well. Its got a warm tone and an awesome crack. This snare can stand up to any top of the line snare out there.

YES!!

By bobsmith123

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I bought this snare back in December and am more and more impressed with it everyday. You can tune the snare to your liking and because of the die-cast hoops it will stay in tune for a long time. the hoops also allow for a great rimshot. the snare wire tightener is very easy to use and doesn't loosen unless you twist it. with the right tuning you can almost entirely get rid of unwanted ringing sounds and with a Moongel, you can get rid of it entirely. I have the 6x14 Natural Black Burst and it looks amazing, sounds amazing and is without a doubt the most amazing snare ever.

Great snare for a great price

By Fl Drummer

from florida

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I went in to guitar center ready to spend about 300 or 400 dollars for a snare to replace the stock one for my Yamaha set. After playing a bunch of the ones on the floor, I kept coming back to this OCDP 7x13 it looks great and sounds great. I 've played it for about 2 months now with no problems. It has a nice loud crack, die cast hoops, and a pretty good throw off for a drum in this price range. Great Snare OCDP

Black Burst

By Drummerboy87

from Atl, Ga.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I purchased the black burst online being totally blind to the actual sound of the drum. I originally bought the drum as a backup to snare that I used. Upon opening the box I was amazed at the beauty of this snare. The black to natural ash / maple fade is truly an eye catcher. A detail you don't see online is that the lugs at the bottom of the lug screws have a copper / gold color that reflects off of the lugs that makes this snare look very sick. By it being a 14 X 5.5 this snare cuts through everything. It has a warm, full range sound great for live and studio!

Miracle

By Jesse

from Elyria, Ohio

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

Ok, I just went to Guitar Center to play this snare. I'm trying to replace my Tama Metalworks (Ewwwwwww!) and I heard about these snares so I gave them a try. OH MY GOD. The 7x13 ash was the best sounding snare in the entire display (which included expensive ones), with and without a sound ring. Of course it didn't sound the best, because they never tune the drums well, but it beat the snot out of every other snare. I could only imagine how it would sound with some new heads and a good tune-up. It's compact, lightweight, good looking, has an amazing sound, and it's only $200. GET THIS SNARE DRUM.

Great for recordingۡ_or anything else!

By Chris Gill

from Wichita, KS

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I've owned at least a half dozen snares over the past twenty years and this is absolutely in the top 3! I was recording this band, and when the drummer told me he had an OCDP snare I thought "Oh great! They're gonna expect me to make their cheap junk sound like gold!" The other engineer I was working with got all the mics set up and from the first hit of the snare in sound check I was sold! I was so impressed with the crack, warmth, subtle overtones, and overall beauty that I went out and bought one (6x14 Natural Black Burst) for myself! If I can, I'm going to persuade any drummer that I record to use this snare!

Quality & Cost Advantage

By Garry

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I admit I bought this snare as an impulse buy. I choose the 14"x 6" natural finished. For the purposes of this review we will assume the other offering are matched in quality. The look of the snare was appealing, but we all know looks can be deceiving. I wanted a low cost snare to carry around anywhere I might want to go and not be overly concerned about it's care. Well, on a cost vs quality scale this snare is a winner. Looks great, sounds very good, and not at all expensive. Of course the heads and snare strainer are mid-range quality, but those will be replace over time just like tires on a car. The point is this. If you are cost particular and want a great snare drum to add to everything you have already accumulated, you will probably be completely satisfied with this purchase.

Great overall snare

By Henry

from Fairhope, Al.

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

Another great snare from Guitar Center and OCDP! I tuned this one down a step from piccolo tensioning and it gave me all the rock/blues sound I could need. It will choke at upper tuning ranges, but its not made for that anyway. Buy it and put in your arsenal no regrets from here! Records really well also.

awsome craftmanship

By pete g.

from wilkes barre pa

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

First, this snare is hand made in usa. I got the sparklering red to match my set. The craftmanship is comparable to a much more expensive snare, but that just the astetics of it. It has a perfect balance of high pop and resonant lows. It provides the full spectrum of any playing style in a unique 13 inch. The rims are thick and give a tasty rim shot when thrown in a groove. It also plays well soft and warm, while having the ability to cut threw some heavy jaming. I'm using evans heads on it , I m in love with this snare and so are my fellow band members. In conclusion , its unique , great sound, american craftmanship, and the value is ambigious.

KILLER SNARE!

By Kyle Rogers

from Kaysville, Utah

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

This is a awesome snare for the price, especially with it on sale. Can't be beat. This snare's Die-cast hoops allow the drum to tune smoothly and evenly, and keep the head tuned. This drum can virtually stand up to any type of music no matter how hard you play it. OC drums has really created a snare for the working musician.

WOW

By BCA

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

Hi, I received the 6 X 14 natural black burst as a Christmas gift, I had been looking at it for a while, and I am NOT disappointed. First things first. The craftsmanship and quality of this drum are outstanding. The finish is like glass. The lugs, and snare throw off are top notch. However, the stock heads are poor as are the snares, so first thing I did was replace them with an Evans 300 Hazy on the bottom and an Evans Genera HD coated on top, and Puresound custom 20 strand snares. Tuned up, and took it to band practice. This drum has a very nice crack/pop with just a little overtones. You won't notice it when the band is going and it gives the drum some nice body/volume. Very response when played soft or hard. The only drawback is that it is made in China. I thought all Orange County drums were made in the USA. Bottom line, if you get some decent heads and snares, and can overlook the made in China part, this drum is great.

Just the sound I wanted!

By Sandra Stewart

from Elyria, Oh

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

After a long battle on which snare to get to add to my collection, I decided on the 13x7 maple. I tried each snare in this price range in the store and the tone and punch of this snare just caught my attention and I knew it was the one. I do not regret it one bit and I plan to use it for years to come. I strongly suggest you go try out this drum in person and decide for yourself,

  • good all around sounding snare

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

This is a review for the 7x13 maple snare. I am waiting on the 4th drum to come in. The 1st drum had scratches (they were straight made by a tool)underneath the clear finish and one of the lugs the finish was rubbed off. 2nd drum the bearing edge had dips in it. The finish was the same way had straight scratches in it. When I tuned it, every other lug the pitch was high, low, high, low. 3rd drum was the cleanest, bearing edges were ok. But there is a good size drip in the clear coat. Now I am waiting for the 4th drum to see if it is any better, if not I will keep the 3rd drum. After all of this I am going to keep one of the drums because it is a good sounding drum. OCDP hopefully this is just a bad batch. Please work on your fit and finish of your drums, you do make good drums with good features at a good price point!

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I originally bought this snare because I moved to Australia to go to school for music, and my 8x14 13ply G-maple Starclassic was too big and heavy. After changing out the heads and replacing the snares with pure sounds, I fell in love with this snare. Nice crack to it, good body tones, and she's beaut. For the price, you can't really beat this snare. The only major problem I had with this at first, is that the snare throw 's screws mount horizontally to each other, rather than vertically. This means that the snare throw will flex down when armed, making me have to constantly adjust the snare tension.

I eventually did a little tightening of the screws to make it flex less, which worked for a good 3-4 months. However, just recently while practicing, one of the screws holding the throw snapped, rendering it useless. I am not able to get the other half out of the throw, so there is little to no hope of fixing that.

I did send a part replacement form to OCDP. I will update this when I get a response from them.

Would I recommend this to someone? Probably. She's pretty, she sounds incredible, she's affordable. BUT! OCDP needs to work on the hardware quality, despite it looking fancy and fine.

    The Best!

    By Brian

    from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Snare:

I personally don't have this(...yet...), but a fellow drummer does in the 13 by 7. I can't say anything bad about this snare. Whether it's tuned high or low, it always gives a loud crack that everyone looks for. I play concerts and at basketball games and we always use that snare and it can be heard outside the gymnasium and even a few hundred feet away from it. It's not too expensive, and the stock heads are actually good, so this is the best snare you can get.
