All I can say is Wow!! This little thing drips with vintage british valve goodness. Seriously did not expect this much tone and power from this tiny little thing! Easily drives my pair of 15" cabs. LOUD too...can be heard over drummer...I wouldn't hesitate to gig with it as a backup. In a larger venue you would just want to mic it to the house. Love the tone shaping on this one, and the aux in for versatility. One thing to be aware of is the newer ones like mine are NOT 4 ohms at the output, they are a more standard 8. Which to my ear sounded better that the older 4ohm model I tried in the store (thicker somehow), and as far as cabinets go, 8's and 16's are more common anyway. Gonna pick up some sovteks for it.....love it. Could be the best micro amp EVER devised!!!

Great size, easy to carry around from place to place. Was a little disappointed with its sound quality, was expecting more from its tube pre amp. Great for quiet house practice though and it did take pedals pretty well. I would say this amp sounds best with a quality OD pedal rather than using the amps gain but I will be returning it to find something a bit better sounding.

Bigger doesn't always mean better!

By James Antes

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this little set-up as a joke (I also got the Orange PPC108 Speaker cabinet). BUT THIS IS NOT A JOKE. This little set-up is bad to the bone. It cranks as good as, if not better than my Marshall DSL set-up and is as clean as my Fender Blues Deluxe. When I first plugged in to this little guy I was amazed (Really) not much catches me by surprise. It's so touch sensitive. If you can't find the sound your looking for with this set-up. You might not know what it is your looking for. I'll be using this on the road. I'll just put a Sennheiser e906 in front of the PPC108 cabinet and into the board. I can't wait to hear the laughter and then the roar!

WOW!!!!!!!

By William Marion

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Having a recording studio means I have to keep several amps, guitars, and various other things on hand all of the time. Since amps such as my Marshall JVM410, and others in that size take up a lot of room. If this Orange Micro head was half the amp people talked about, I would be happy. I'm not happy, I am beyond that word and not sure what to call it. After plugging this into my Marshall JCM900 1960 Lead 4X12 cabinet, I couldn't believe how something so small could produce this huge sound. You can throw your distortion pedal away, when you turn the gain up, you have all the distortion you need. I have a Zoom G3 Multi effects pedal, and no matter what settings I used, they were all great. It should be noted that it also has a good clean when the gain is turned down.

Great for the money

By Curtis Hill

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Amazing little amp. Functions are straight forward. Provides a lot of power for something so small. Has become my go-to amp for practicing. I've used it with a Marshall 1960 4x12 cabinet and it sounds awesome. Most of the time I use it with a Marshall 1x8 speaker cabinet from a mini stack I bought back in the late 80s. I would highly recommend this little amp. The drawbacks? There's a lot of background noise coming from the amp...and it's even louder if you turn the volume down on your guitar. The other drawback is the power supply...I would prefer a normal power cord rather than a power adapter. All of that said...definitely worth the money!

Great Buy!

By Michael Haver

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

With good gear, the micro terror is everything you want in an incredibly small package. If you're a rock player who likes to turn up the gain, this amp is for you. If you need a practice amp with tube sound at an affordable price, this amp is for you. If you're looking for a nice clean sound, you want want to look at the fender super champ xd. But that's not what Orange is selling. Surprisingly this amp has a ton of headroom and powers my 4X12 Orange cab. It's the next best thing to having a real Tiny Terror. My apartment has some thin walls, but the micro terror helps me get away with having an amp. I can always plug my headphones in for some decent tone. The headphone jack is mediocre to tell the truth. The other features like the aux jack are brilliant. I love plugging in my ipod or macbook to this head and jamming by myself. It's just everything you want for a high gain mini head. Tone wise, it's very close to the tiny terror. I play them side by side all the time. The thing to remember is that is it simply not the Tiny Terror, but a very close version to it. It's a freaking steal at $150 and i bought one right after playing one. If you love Orange tone for $150 and I'm pretty sure everyone does...this is the amp for you. I have had no problems of any sort. Yes, it's a tube amp, but it has a dummy load for the dummies It's fantastic since it's Orange but you knew that when you saw which company made it. It's the best purchase I've made in a long time. It will not disappoint. Buy it now...no joke.

Needs a Little Help

By Marc

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great little amp for the money its weighs less than some of my pedals. It runs a 4x12 very well and keeps up with other amps well. With that being said it needs a little help tone wise. The 12ax7 it comes stock with didn't give it enough punch for me. Adding an 808 in front of it helped but I didn't want to have this thing and carry around a pedal that cost more than it so i put a 12ad7 in the tube socket, if you buy this amp DO THAT! it makes louder, more gain, and better midrange.

The biggest sounding 4" x 6.5" amp EVER!

By Cody Stoner

from Wichita, KS

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I just got this amp yesterday and I'm already totally blown away by it. I ran it through a Marshall 4x12 cab and was pleasantly surprised at how well it sounded through that big of a cabinet. I could not make myself walk away from it and ended up plugging in my headphones and playing around with it until about 2:00 in the morning. I know a lot of people will whine about it not being all tube but I think Orange nailed this and for the price iit would be hard to find something better.

Almost there....

By Tanner Gwaltney

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I matched this little head up with a Raven 1x12 cab and its pretty cool. The tube preamp brings some great tone to the table, but the solid state power section sucks it up a bit. It lacks too much of the responsiveness of a full tube amp, and it has too much of the midrange. For the money, this amp is a really great little tone monster, and would make an awesome first amp. My ears are just very picky in what they want to hear, and the solid state power section isn't cutting it. It looks ridiculously funny/cool/groovy though.

Best bang for the buck in amp heads ever.

By Steven Tew

from Twin Cities, MN

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I am so tired of toting heavy gear. Wanting a light weight amp to plug in to a cab I built which would replace the need to carry my Traynor combo, I auditioned a lot of the small heads. Not one of them compares favorably to this little gem. This thing is about the size of a shoe. You can carry it with one finger. It has quality tone and is exceptionally responsive to the character of the pickups that you use to feed it. Playing a Gretsch or a Tele Thinline with humbuckers you can play pretty clean and roll up to a mellow roar without a pedal, just using the volume knob on the guitar. My Godin's pickups don't have as much output, but the lovely character comes through as well as any other amp I have played. The Gretsch really sounds great played with the gain turned down and the volume way up. It has excellent headroom and dynamics. Not as great as many very good tube amps, but you would have to be nit picking to complain... at less than 25% of the cost. It seems to be an honest 20 watts. That means that it is loud. If you like a nice distortion I am pretty sure it would stand up to a moderately loud drummer in a small venue. As to reliability, I am thinking of just getting a second one as a spare, it is so light and small and inexpensive.

microTERORRR!!!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I seen some vids of this thing in action online so I went out and bought one. I am extremely impressed haha. I sold my half stack that day. and been using this since!. i run the gain at 1/2 , tone at 11oclock and volume about 1/2 to 3/4 to gig shows with a full band (mic to pa) through a 4x12 cab. I have it matched up with a mxr fullbore metal pedal with gain a little less then 1/4 just to boost it up some and some effects pedals and use a EQ pedal to do the rest. also having a OD or distortion pedal works great to have a clean channel. i absolutely love this monster and have no problem gigging in a full band on a big stage or small club. im gonna match it up with a orange 2x12 or 4x12 cab. id rather the 2x12 to make gig load in even easier and try a maxon od pedal also and see what i like better. overall this thing is awesome. and i got great reviews from sounds guys and the audience about the great tone. buy it and try some different pedals for your style and you WILL NOT be disappointed! i play alternative rock to melodic/hardcore and found a great tone after some tweeks. eventually i will upgrade to a bigger orange head but ill still bring this micro monster to gigs and show it off! orange lifer!

    Small amp. Huge Tone!!!

    By Peter Robins

    from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

OK. I was going to wait until the honeymoon was over, but I can't. First off my gear: PRS SE Singlecut with Seymour Duncan JB/JAZZ. Marshall MC412A Cab. First time I turned it on it brought a smile to my face. One thing I noticed was it sounded a little fizzy with the gain cranked. That's why I gave it a 4 rating. You see, it comes with a JJ ECC83 stock. I have never been a fan of JJ's. I had a Groove Tube Chinese 12AX7 lying around and popped it in. It totally transformed it. Smoothed out the gain. Now I can't wait to get home from work and play. Everything from a nice clean to a dirty overdrive to a nasty crunch. If you are looking for a death metal amp, look elsewhere. Throw a tube screamer in the front of it and you could do some thrash. I plugged in another guitar that I set up for standard C and got some great dark sounding "Sword" tones. I highly recommend this little amp! Buy it! It will not disappoint.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I got this for Christmas '13 and, I gotta say, I'm really impressed. It's got incredible tones, very easy to use controls, and is relatively cheap, considering it's a tube head. Personally, I don't have the skills to justify dropping 3k on a tube head, then another 1k on a cab, so I looked for cheap options and found this bad-boy, and I am not disappointed. It even works for great metal tones combined with the Fullbore Metal. The only gripe I have with it, is it sounds terrible with distortion WHEN using headphones. Clean tones with headphones are alright, but if you turn the gain up or add distortion, it's very un-appealing. But, apart from that, it's perfect for beginners. Small, compact, easy to transport, easy to use, and certainly turns heads. I could not be more satisfied with it.

PROBABLY not what you think! Rock on...

    By JAMES SAVINO

    from Rochester NY

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I've had this amp for about a month now and have ran it through both my marshall 1960 4x12 at 16ohms, and 4ohms, also my 1x12 cab running at 8ohms with an Eminenece Red Coat speaker I also bought from guitar center! Anyway, all of the youtube videos you see, including the chappers ones are somewhat misleading. I'm not sure if it is the mic's they are using on these youtube videos or the pedals their putting in front or what BUT, this amp DOES NOT sound insane like it does on youtube. It has a ton of mid range, and has a rather hollow, windy sound to it. the tone knob very VERY sensitive. The amp works fantastic, and is really cool, don't get me wrong I like it as my bedroom practice amp. PLENTY of volume too. It just really does not have a full bassy sweet tone like it does on youtube. I thought maybe my amp was broken at first when I got it home and heard it through real life ears instead of online videos. It's a great practice amp, and it really looks cool but even as the guy from Orange at NAMM said... it is a novelty amplifier, not a series gigging one. It does clean and crunch tones the best, not quite enough gain for full on metal by its self. If you have an extra cab laying around and/or do not want to warm up your big tube amp for just some quick guitaring, its a great buy. Also... my main reason got getting this amp was the headphone jack and let me tell you.. its a JOKE! Sounds real bad through the headphone jack. The MP3 is fun to mess with however.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I have owned and played through half stacks for over 20 years and just grew sick and tired of lugging around the rig. Especially trying to play small clubs. I bought a 2x12 cabinet and was looking for a small, inexpensive head to power it. This little guy works great! I don't know anybody that has had any reason to turn up a 100 watt tube head to max volume, either at rehearsal or on a stage. Mine always stayed at 1/4 volume and was plenty loud. This 20 watt amp is perfect. I crank the volume and gain both up to halfway and have a pretty loud little rig. If you need more control then the one tone knob, just get a 7-band EQ pedal. Problem solved. I play blues/rock with a strat running through a couple of tube screamers and an EQ pedal. Loads of compliments on my tone. This little rig rocks! No more asking my singer to help me carry my rig up/down stairs!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I bought one of these used at Guitar Center because 1) It is probably the only Orange amp I can afford and 2) It just looks cool. I have two other hybrid tube/solid state amps and this one is disappointing in comparison. I use it with the matching Orange 8" cabinet and the sound is just not impressive. You can crank up the gain and get a nice tube 'singing' tone, but that's about it. It is a very cool toy, but I find it limited in terms of being able to get a variety of tones. I may try substituting some different model tubes and experimenting with different speaker cabinets. This is definitely not my 'go to' amp for anything.

Great for quiet house practice though and it did take pedals pretty well. Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

Initially I was skeptic to purchase this Micro Terror MT20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head for its size and being solid state. I have three other tube Guitar Amplifiers. It blew me away how a small package delivers such an amazing, loud sounds, in addition it delivers very clean and distorted sounds. The key reason me even trying the Micro Terror MT20W because of its three features I desperately needed, jack into headphone, jack to external device for jamming along and light weight. I had been for quite some time searching for such an amp head because I could not practice my guitars with my regular tub amps due to their loud sound in spite the volume knob is set to 1-2, causing my family members to be upset while trying to play. All my various combinations of portable amplifiers combinations search led to unpleasant sound and disappointment to say the least because they all did not carry the sound I wanted through either the speaker but mainly through headphone. Now I can play my guitars while using my DT770 studio 80 ohm headphone plugged in to the amp head and hear the sound as if I use my regular tube amps, mind it took different settings to achieve the sound I wanted out of this amp.

Great sounding little amp. Surprisingly loud. We use it for another flavor of amp in the studio. Provides an aggressive AC/DC sound pretty convincingly. Sounds very good with humbuckers (we have tried with a Les Paul and a PRS) and p90's (Les Paul Studio). Doesn't sound as good to me with single coils. The american strat we tried it with sounded ok, the Telecaster was a little meh. Could just be me favoring the telecaster through the Fender Blues Jr. Very much worth the money. Wish it had an internal power supply but that is my only complaint.
