Stereo!

By Steve Bielski

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Crush PiX Series CR6S Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I think the main selling point of this amp is that it's stereo and makes a great headphone amp. To compare it to a a regular mono amp is comparing apples and oranges (really bad pun). And it's super portable. You're probably not going to gig with this amp, but it's not really made for that. It is what it is and does what it does very well.

Great little amplifier!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Crush PiX Series CR6S Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I have read a lot of reviews where people complained about these class of amps (micro battery powered) and how they sound "tiny". Well, what would you expect from an amplifier powered by 9V batteries? Anyone expecting to get sound equivalent to a full size tube amp has unrealistic expectations. With that said, for what it is this amplifier is INCREDIBLE. Let's face it, it is hard to get a strong bass response out of a 4" speaker (2 of them in this case) so while this amp won't rattle your walls, you can hear the low notes, and that is what matters. All the other micro amps I played had 2" or 3" speakers, so obviously the bass on those units suffered as a result, especially compared to this amp. The treble and mids on the amp are both crystal clear as well...even significantly better than the other micro amp that Orange makes, the smaller version of this one with just one 4" speaker, I found that odd since it is the same amp just half the wattage and with one less speaker. I play mostly cleans/edge of breakup so this amp is great for me. I only intended to spend $50 but the sound of this one compared to the others had me sold. Totally worth the extra $50. Overdrive on this amp sounds wonderful to. It may leave a little to be desired for some if you are playing anything really heavy, but who uses an Orange amp for heavy metal anyway? The OD is well suited to blues and classic rock. Where this amp really leaves the other "Micro" amps is it's volume (by far the loudest I have played, but it can still play softly and sound great), this probably is b/c of the speaker size, and the fact that it is 6W where many micro amps are 1W - 3W. Among other nice touches on this amp that beat out all the others was the fact that it is made of REAL wood and REAL tolex and the REAL Orange grill, and an actual metal chasis for the amp portion...not just a plastic imitation of the real thing. It is heavy and feels well built...I am sure that also affects the sound positively over the plastic amps. Also, the tuner is a nice touch, it seems to be dead on. My only real criticism is that there are no effects built in like reverb or echo/delay. How hard would it be to put something like that into the circuitry? Especially on one of the highest priced battery powered amps around? The Line 6 "micro" amp has effects built in and only costs a few dollars more than this one...but despite that one complaint the amp is a great deal for someone looking for a travel amp or just one that you can play softly at night without waking up someone in the next room. All in all highly recommended.
