This amp is amazing!

By Mike Collazo

from Lake Stevens, WA

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Just got this amp two weeks ago. I have had in the past Marshall, B-52, and Mesa Boogie tube amps. All were wonderful, great sounding gear, each with their own personalities. The only problem I had was reliability, and cost of maintenance: replacing tubes and getting them properly biased when doing so. The Marshall and Mesa were also top dollar gear, and well worth it. The B-52 was a well reviewed, and rightly so, budget amp with great sound. All that said, I got tired of the hassles and just got a little solid state 100 watt Marshall half stack. A really nice set that I still have and use. I started looking for a tube head for a reasonable price, and after researching heavily through the retailer and guitar magazine web sites, finally settled on the Dual Terror. I will admit that part of it was the Orange's British heritage and reputation, and from my research I expected a lot. What I got was so much more. I run this through a 4 x 12 Celestion cabinet, and it pushes that like a champ. The tones are incredible. I say tones, because this head is so versatile, you can pretty much dial up whatever you want. Since it is a class A amp, the tubes are fixed bias so you can just pull out the old tubes and slap in the new with no tech work. That was a big selling point when I ordered it, but the real pay off is the sound. They don't have these in the stores to compare, but this is without a doubt the finest amplifier I have ever heard. I have a Carvin CS-6, 2 Les Pauls, an SG, a PRS, a Strat, and a custom shop Melody Maker. These fine instruments finally have an amp that does them justice. Buy this amp! You will not be disappointed!

Super amp

By JS

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Let me start by saying I have Marshall and Mesa tube amps, as well as an Orange AD5. The Dual Terror is far and away my go-to amp. Very versatile with two channels -- big upgrade from Tiny Terror. The gain is just sweet on this amp. The Fat Channel just sings on leads, and the rhythm crunch is so solid. And also, you can actually use the 30-watt setting with a 1x12 and not destroy your ears when practicing. (You really have to crank the AD5, by comparison, to overdrive its 5 watts). This is just a superb amp, hands down.

Lightyears ahead of the competition...

By Stanton H.

from Allentown, PA

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The Dual Terror has all of the positive features of the Tiny Terror while improving on some of the weaknesses of its smaller counterpart. The DT sports 30 watts of class A tube power in contrast to the TT's 15. This provides more clean headroom for the user as compared to the tube breakup at relatively low volume that often occurred when playing the TT. Fortunately, the Dual Terror has variable wattage for those who like the early breakup or want arena crunch at bedroom volume. The DT may be run at either 30 or 15 watts via the "full power/half power/standby" switch on the front. The user can also drop the wattage even further via a switch on the back panel. The switch allows the user to power down two of the four EL84 power tubes. This allows the amp to be run at 7.5 watts when in the "half-power" setting. This versatility makes the Dual Terror an excellent choice for stage, studio, and anything in between. The amp gurus at Orange also added a second channel to increase the DT's versatility. The new "Fat" channel truly lives up to its name. This channel has all the sweet British tone of the Tiny Terror channel only warmer and fuller. It is a great addition to an already great sounding amp. The only downside to the two-channel operation of the DT is deciding which of the channels to use as clean and which for dirty as both have their own unique voice and sound great both clean and overdriven. The operation is incredibly simple, three knobs per channel, nothing fancy just gain, volume, and tone. Orange proves that you don't need a million knobs and switches to get great tone, just a well-crafted valve amp. Anyone in the market for great tube tone in a smaller package that won't kill your wallet should get their hands on one of these amps as soon as possible. Plug it in, turn it up, and let yours ears feast on some of the best Class A valve tone on the market today...

Supreme Amp

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have played on many different amps over the last 5 years as I have gotten better myself, and I had never played on anything like the dual terror. This amp beats everything that I have tried and then some. The tonal range that is achieved through such simplistic controls is amazing. No one at my local GC had ever had the chance to play on one so when my order came in I took it in a couple of days and let them play around with it and everyone agrees that it is one of the best amps on the market. One thing that has really surprised me is the fact that there is no FX loop on it, but you can take a time based effects pedal like the boss DD-3 and plug in straight into the input and the signal does not get muddy and garbled. I've had this amp for about 2 months now and I'm still discovering new tones. Paired with the Orange PPC212 and this is a complete beast. I will never get rid of this amp as long as I live. It is just that good. So the long and the short of it sparkling cleans, great bluesy crunch, and mega distortion all with the turn of 3 dials. If you play a lot of the classics like I do then the vintage feel is for you. Even if you play something a little bit more modern still give this some consideration, I don't think that you will regret it.

Orange is RED HOT!!!

By Carl

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Wow wow wow, versatility is the name of this game. You want hard rock tones- you got it, blues- done, metal- no problem. I ended up selling some of my distortion pedals 'cause they just weren't needed. I have a Blues Jr NOS, which is a great amp for classic rock and blues, but found it a little limited as far as tones, and I needed something with more power when jamming with others, specially drummers. I got a lot more than just power. I got tons of tone options. The clearest clear to the nastiest crunch. If you have the space for a small head and cab this is a sure winner. No complaints yet...just wish it wasn't made in China, but what isn't these days.

Best Tube Amp Money Can Buy!

By Bbrutal

from St. Paul MN

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Very Versatile Amp! I use it for recording, practice and gigging. The reason it excels in all categories is because you have the option of using 2 or 4 tubes, a tiny or fat channel, and half or full. I play out of a Marshall 4x12 loaded with Celestions and the sound is ALWAYS perfect. I play mostly metal and blues plus everything in between and I always get the right sound. I prefer this amp over others such as Mesa and Vox because not only does it have alot of tube power, it has the best control of those tubes so you can get really big full sounds even when your cranked down real low (to avoid upsetting the neighbors) The only thing I would add to it is a dirty channel, but I just use pedals for extra gain and distortion so no big.

WOW!!!!!! BUY THIS AMP NOW

By Dave Vaughn

from Roxboro NC

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have been playing guitar for about 15 years now and have owned a lot of killer amps and this is by a mile the best one for me. If you are worried that it wont be loud enough for gigs and practice then don't be ITS LOUD ENOUGH. It looks awesome, it sounds awesome, it is super light and easy to get around, it comes with a case that is a lot nicer then i thought it would be good enough that you wont have to go buy one if you gig with it. You may want to get a eq pedal if you don't like a lot of punch

READ THIS!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Okay so i just picked up this awesome little amp the other day and i gotta say i love it! Now some people say this amp can do metal and hardcore music and some say it cant. Well my opinion was stuck RIGHT in the middle. I love the crunch and sound of the distortion. I felt like it was border-line metal though. I could play metal stuff on it and everything sounded awesome, but the chugging just wasnt good enough. EASY FIX! I bought the mxr boost/overdrive pedal and it solved EVERYTHING! It gives you that extra little kick that this amp needs to go to insane mode! I LOVE this amp now, i have it on top of a mesa boogie 412 with v30's and it gets LOUD! I can't wait to do my first gig with it! I wish it had a 4ohm output but 8 and 16 are provided. Its plenty powerful through 8ohms. I love the fact that it has dual channels too. For me i think the FAT channel is more suited for cleans and the TINY channel for dirty stuff. The only difference i could hear is the fat channel is more...well fat i guess. Little more bass maybe. Anyways i give this amp 5 stars and for all you >METAL< fans you might want to buy just a boost or an overdrive pedal (or the boost/overdrive) and get shreddin. One hell of an amp right here!
