Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Really, there's a lot I wanna say about this amp and only so much space to write. The more I use it, the more I love it. I've had it for a few months now and have used it with a few different setups.

I have two guitars I use with it; an LTD 401VF les paul and and a Godin Redline 1. Both sound great with the amp, but distinctly different in immediately obvious ways. The Godin has an EMG 81 pickup, so it's tight, better for metal. The LTD has a Duncan JB pickup, which I would consider to have a rawer, more prominent upper-midrange than the EMG. Great for rock, but not really super tight for metal (though using my Fulltone OCD changes that). This amp takes well to both guitars. My 6505 made them sound a bit too similar.

For cabs, I use both a Whitebox 212 with Swamp Thangs and an Egnater Tweaker 112 with a GH30. Two really different sounding enclosures (I don't use them at the same time). The Tweaker gets more of a brighter, classic rock tone, while the 212 is more modern and dark. Think the difference between old school Neil Young and Bad Religion. That's a good tonal area for me, personally. I typically run the tone knob in the 1-2 o-clock range.

The amp doesn't have many options for itself, as many reviews online mention. I went with it strictly for simplicity. The clean DOES sound pretty good, but obviously doesn't have much headroom. The effects loop sounds good and works better than the one on my 6505. I mainly use to it to power a Blackstar HT5 for a bit more power (and to smooth out the GH30), but my Hall of Fame sounds great in the loop, too. The amp can compete with a drummer and bassist using just my Tweaker 112, but it would be difficult to keep up with another guitarist in the mix.

Though it just has the one tone knob, I don't have many issues with the EQ. Some added options would be nice, sure. Sometimes I use an OCD, but that's about it.

Overall, very happy.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Don't let the "Dark" fool you, this is NOT just a dark metal amp, it can do everything from good cleans, rock, hard rock and metal. You know how most "metal" maps today cater to the dropped D and dropped tuning sound?...well this amp doesn't. Yes, it can get that for those who want it, but there is also the classic metal tone in there too. If you max the Shape control, you have yourself a scooped metal tone machine. At 1 o'clock both shape and gain, the amp delivers a GREAT tone, again...this is NOT just a dark metal amp. I also use my guitar volume and tone controls to "shape" even more. This head doesn't need any help from pedals either. Its BIG sound from a small amp, I am not sure how Orange did it, but they really produced an amp here that every player should own.

Good sound, but not much here.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is cool for sure. The rock/metal tones it produces are very nice. The clean is relatively sparkly and can be used as well. The biggest issue with this amp is, for paying $650, it really has no options. No channels, no mid, bass, treble. Just volume, tone, and gain... THAT IS IT. 15 watts is surprisingly loud, it is very responsive too. There simply just is not a lot you can do without something to control your settings. I think this should be a 500 dollar amp or less. If you are not gigging and you just need some real valve style tone, great choice. If you like to tinker... eh I don't know. I do not own one my self, however I play one at my local guitar center every time I go there so I have had some time with it. After all.. I want one haha!

    Perfection

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I listened to this with my Bose noise-cancelling earphones and I was BLOWN AWAY. The cleans are beautiful and as you increase the gain, you get everything from classic rock (Zeppelin, Hendrix, AC/DC, Sabbath, etc.)all the way to the heaviest of the heavy (Metallica, Slayer, The Sword, Sleep, Melvins, etc.) This head is ABOSOLUTELY the best sounding amp I have ever heard. Do yourself a favor and play one at your local guitar store. I was leaning toward the TH30 at first because of the higher wattage and channel switching, but the tone of the distortion on the Dark Terror is what sold me. I have no more need for any OD/distortion pedals. The tone sends chills up my spine every time I play. I have my Dark Terror running though an Orange PPC212 16? Open Back cab, as well as a Marshall 8412 4X12 8? cab which has Celestion G12L-35's, which have the smaller "L" (light) magnets on them, which works well with the low wattage of the Dark Terror. It gives the sound a little extra thump, but can get a tad muddy at higher volumes. I'll be getting the Orange PPC212 Closed Back cab at some point to replace the Marshall, which I originally had my Laney Pro-Linebacker 100 SS amp run through.

    This Amp is Sick.

    By ERWIN CARPIO

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is amazing. I bought it cause I wanted a cheap amp with an FX loop, so I decided on the dark terror cause I knew Orange made good products. What ended up happening was me learning A LOT. For one this amp can do clean don't let anyone tell you it can't. The amp is very responsive to your picking so if you turn down the volume knob and pick softly you can get a good clean sound. And then you can turn it back up and get great crunchy distortion. The distortion is very smooth and crunchy with the right cab and its extremely portable. great for gigs. and its Loud. Very Loud. And also can do bedroom levels well, just switch it down to 7 watts. Its a great amp with a great tone. One channel is all you need sometimes.

    Dark Terror ... surprising

    By MICHAEL DEES

    from Texas

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Well, was looking for a low watt amp to play at home. Loved Mesa's and the Lamb of God sound, but couldn't afford one/couldn't play a Mark IV in my tiny practice room. Went with the dark terror and was pleasantly surprised. It definitely doesn't have the modern "tight" metal lows, but what it does have sounds uniquely awesome. Little loose, way dirty, waaaaay heavy. This thing is can get crazy loud too! Plenty of modern scooped heavyness with the tone nob cranked to the right. Mastodon-ish amp for sure. Found the unique tone I didn't even know I wanted...I'm an Orange boy now. PS...you definitely need a noise gate for this bad boy. It's pretty noisy (low watt/high gain, whatcha gonna do) and feeds back a lot in a small room (which is sweet sometimes!)

    buy it!!!!

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have had this head for quite some time now and I still can't get over it. I was looking for something to get good Black Sabbath and Mastodon tones. I paired it with an orange closed back 2x12 cab and it is a powerhouse. I can't get over the way Black sabbath riffs sound. The 7/15 watt option is fantastic. For practicing at home the 7 watts is perfect. The 15 watts is great for playing with a drum set. If gigging with this head you may have to be mic'd. I play my Esp EC-1000 through it and with the EMG pickups and the amount of gain, you can really get some fantastic metal sounds. You can back off the gain a bit and get some great classic rock tones as well. I have a Fender strat with seymour duncan single coils and it sounds fantasic as well. To my suprise, I even got decent surf sounds with the gain turned down and slight reverb. I haven't really utilized the effects loop but I know it is a necessity for some. If you are looking for an amp that gives you a lot of gain this is for you. I love the simplicity of it. I am one to think that 'less is more.' I like the fact that there is only volume, tone, and gain. What else do you need?

    This is amp is mind-blowing

    By Eric Pells

Comments about Orange Amplifiers DA15H Dark Terror 15 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Don't let its small size fool you, this has some monsterous gain and distortion for a small amp . Sence its so compact its great for playing in smaller venues. The 7 or 15 watt option is nice for a house environment. The only two things I don't like about it is you realy get a loud clean sound from it and the other thing is there is no foot swich for it,but other than that its a great amp with cool looks awesome distortion.
