Overview

The Orange Crush CR60C is a 60W solid-state combo made from 18mm ply and loaded with a single 12? 60W, 16 Ohm Voice of the World speaker. The Voice of the Worlds combined with the analogue solid-state circuitry gives the CR60C the tonal clarity and definition players adore in an Orange amplifier.

The Crush CR60C combo amp is part of the Crush range, marking Orange's first foray into the world of high power, solid-state amplifiers. Orange have spent years creating a solid-state amp they could be proud of. The Orange team wanted to keep these amp simple. The dirty channel uses a circuit based on four stages of gain and a three band EQ which provides the player with a wide pallet of over-driven and distorted sounds. The clean channel is based on a two stage, two band EQ design, that gives the player a clean but warm sound which when cranked begins to break up.

These amps have a transparent effects loop, allowing you to plug in your favorite pedals. It also contains a digital reverb that provides a natural sounding spring, hall or plate reverb. The Crush CR60C features Orange basket-weave Tolex, woven speaker grille, beading, hieroglyphs, and of course the Orange signature picture frame edging.

  • Two channel
  • Digital reverb
  • Clean channel controls: Volume, Bass and Treble

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

I gig 2 to 3 times a month in local clubs. And though I prefer tube amps, there are times when a nice portable ss amp can do the job. This Orange does the job in spades! I leave my tubes home now because I get all the crispy cleans and crunch I need for a classic rock cover band.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

I just wanted to follow up on my earlier review of this amp. It's really a nice amp. I've been playing with some guys and it stands up well. Our drummer plays really hard and he's asked me to turn it down. The other guitarist uses a Blackstar HT-40 and it has no trouble keeping up. It has a nice bite to the clean channel when it's cranked. Not overdriven, but not Fender-y. Just a little hair that sounds great when you are kicking off the drive. It's not as 'jarring' as going from raw drive to crystal clean. I reiterate how well an OD pedal works with the amp's drive to let you sculpt your tone anywhere from ripping, sludgy grind to a nice crispy crunch.

On this second review I gave it 5 stars because I've played it with people. I can't knock a star off for not sounding like a tube amp, because it's not. But it's also two grand less than its 'tube equal.' You could get a Marshall or Blackstar for a few Benjamins more, but if you want Orange tone at a loud enough volume, it's a killer option.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

To make a long story short, I was in a catch 22 situation. I wanted to get involved with a band, but I was currently using a Blackstar HT5 that didn't quite cut it with a drummer. But I didn't need a higher wattage amp if I wasn't in a band. So I didn't want to spend a ton, but I also didn't want to buy something cheap and lousy. I was looking for something that I could crank and play with a band, but would also sound good at lower volumes around the house (I live in a townhouse).

I went into Guitar Center and ABY'ed a Marshall DSL40C, a Blackstar HT40 Club, and the CR60. After going back for 2, 3 hour sessions, and driving the guys at the store nuts, I chose the Orange. All three sounded great. I felt the Blackstar was too similar to the HT5. I wanted to try something else. I liked the Marshall, but even with the half power switch, it just needed to be pushed a bit too much to get "that sound."

The Orange sounded good at a range of volumes and just had a different kind of sound that I liked. It has that "British Tone" but a bit a little more raw than the Marshall or the Blackstar. With the gain around noon, it's got a nice crunchy tone. A little past that, it's pretty rockin'. Past that, it gets a bit muddy, but is good for chuggy rhythm stuff. It loses a bit of definition at the highest gains, but you can tighten it up with an overdrive pedal for more defined parts. The amp takes pedals really well; modulation, drives. I played a few times with pretty hard hitting drummers and didn't have to turn the master past noon or 1 o'clock.

I've had some high watt tube amps in the past (Mesa, Sovtek), plus the lower watt HT5. The CR60 obviously lacks the harmonics of a tube amp, it's not a tube amp. That said, it sounds great. When you crank it, it really pushes some air and gets a good thump. The standard speaker is nice and beefy. I AB'ed this with an Orange OR15. It didn't sound identical, but it had the same character, especially with a 1x12 extension cab. And don't dis solid state. Think about how many people have a tube amp, but use a Boss Metal Zone or BigMuff or other distortion pedal ... solid state drive.

For my needs it's perfect. Plenty loud, sounds great, smallish footprint, good value, no maintenance.

You can find other reviews and demos online for all the details of the frequency range, features, etc.

        Amazing little amp!~

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

I come from playing a Marshall half stack with a 1960 B base with Celestion Vin 30's. I didn't think I'd ever get used to playing a small amp again. This amp has such great tone controls that really do work that it allows you to dial in your sound to a T. The three postion reverb switch is great although I found basically one position I really like, the other isn't quite enough, and the last one is too much, wouldn't you know it? Well this also changes depending upon what channel your playing in. The dirty channel allows you to dial in hints of grind to tons. Very cool. It has a distinctive British grind to it, which I like. It is very touch sensitive for a solid state amp and I think it sounds every bit as good as a tube amp. The finish on this little guy is first rate. I have an orange one and the creme wicker grill clothe and black hardware look superb. I like the Orange, White and black control panel. This amp is a steal at $499.00. It sounds better than several 2 X 12 Tube amps that I tried, Mesa, Fender and couple others. I think if this guy was sitting on top of a 2X12 satellite cabinet with a pair of Celestions in it would be absolutely killer! I'd venture to say it'd sound as good as my Marshall does then. I bought this amp because I wanted a smaller amp that was easy to manage going to gigs. It is that. I'm so pleased with this amp it makes me want the CR120C which is it's big brother. Who knows, I may buy that one next. If you want a small amp that sounds twice it's size, that you can dial in exactly the way you want it, one that doesn't break your back to carry into a gig, and one that looks different than anyone elses then get this little guy. You'll love it, I love mine. I have over 40 years of playing experience, and I play an Agile Intercepter 828 8 string into the amp and it just shines! What more could I ask for?

        Crazy good

        By

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

I had an Orange Cr35ldx and decided it was time for an upgrade. This amp is crazy good. It took me a little while to dial in the tone I was looking for but I've never sounded better. Its your typical orange amp when it comes to cosmetics. The black tolex with tan speaker looks sharp. The controls are the same as the rockerverbs. I play mostly punk and alternative with a little bit of blues and this amp has more than enough gain. Both channels are very articulate and responsive. My only complaint is the feedback can be harsh if you push the volumes/gain but thats what noise gates are for.

Doesn't sound like a solid state

        By

        from Winchester, VA

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

For the price, and for being a solid state, I didn't expect it to sound all that great, but it has totally blown me away. The cleans sound crystal clear, and when you crank up the volume (not master, the channel volume) it starts to break up a little, giving you something like a dirty blues tone. As for the dirty channel, it sounds great as well. It can sound a little mushy at times on the lower strings, but I think that's just my les paul needing better pickups. The reverb doesn't sound digital at all, and it has more than enough volume for my needs. This amp, on a level of tone, could probably keep up with a Peavey 5150 half stack. Just barely, but hey, that's doing real good for a solid state combo.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush Pro CR60C 60W Guitar Combo Amp:

This is amp has an awesome sound and simple controls... The simple switch from clean to dirty is great. The clean is smooth, and the dirty has so much range that I may lose a couple of pedals... This might just be the last amp I buy.
