Great Practice Amp

By

from Leadville, CO

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush PiX CR25BX 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:

I've had this thing for a few weeks now, and I'm really happy with it. The amp has a great tone and allows me to play in my apartment at a volume that doesn't bother my neighbors. Although, it is pretty surprising how loud this little thing can get. All in all, I couldn't be happier with it.

More than met my high expectations.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush PiX CR25BX 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:

I've been a guitarist for decades with years of experience in NYC/NJ recording studios, clubs etc... I mostly write, play & record harder rocking music. I'm only a bassist for home recording purposes. In mix downs, something was missing or just not right about the bass tracks. I've tried numerous bass recording methods including direct into an interface, direct into a mic pre then into an interface, direct through a guitar pre, direct into a direct box DI etc. and always wanted more definition than I was getting. Although my guitar pre sounded pretty good, it didn't want to use it for bass. My one home recording opportunity to use the Direct out of an actual bass amp seemed to give a much better ability to fine tune an authentic amp sound than I ever had, so I decided to try a bass amp. Bass is not my main instrument and I didn't want to invest big money in it. I just need to be able to record the bass parts with an impressive sound. Remembering that many of music's 60s, 70s & 80's icons with huge recorded sounds actually used small combo amps in the studio, I did a lot of research and decided that a small combo amp with a direct out would allow me to mic the speaker AND run direct if I need to do both or I could choose one as needed. A smaller amp would allow me to crank it a little and get some roar at lower decibels. There were only a few youtube videos (besides the jamming to music player videos & the useless -to me- phenomenon of "unboxing" videos) that actually let me hear the tones of this amp on their own, but using what was available in comparisons and research on others, this seemed to be impressive and the best dollar/ purpose accomplishing choice, so I bought a B Stock one online and first experimental and recording trials are really impressing me. I've always been impressed with Orange Amps even though I'm a Marshall guy. This little amp has great tone. I mean really impressive. I usually need to 'squeeze down the woof" on bass tracks, but this just drives in the mix nicely and will allow me to focus more on the other low end mix elements without the previous mix turf challenges that cost me so much time. I use a cheap bass with a Dimarzio P bass pick up. Previous recordings always had a lot of fluxuation and the low E string was much louder than the rest. That story is also OVER with this amp. The tracks are much more even & pro sounding. Tracking images are also much more even. I can see and hear a big improvement. I cannot speak as to dependability because I've only had it a few weeks, but first impressions are very impressive and so is the price. Like all amps, if you need to push them at 80 or 90% for extended periods of time, they will start to act stressed and possibly fail. Treat them right! Buy an amp that will give you some headroom and give you a great sound without being pushed to its limits. I will not even need to push this near half volume to get very impressive recordings, so it will have a good life here. For just practicing at home or in a situation similar to mine, I definitely recommend it. You only need to raise the gain a small amount to achieve a loud amp recording sound. There is much more gain than I need, which is nice. Between the EQ, volume and gain knobs, you have a lot of options here. For large live recording environments or really small clubs, I'd go up to the 50 watt model.... at least, but 100 watt would be better. Look at their bigger amps for bigger rooms. I think that this particular amp is great tool for any recording environment though. I am impressed.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush PiX CR25BX 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:

Plugged in and played one at Atlanta Discount Music over in Chamblee. It pushed more air than my 70 watt GK!!!! The amp had great, great tone, and I was getting very loud and very clear results as I turned the thing up. I'd recommend this thing to anyone.

Impressive little amp

By

from Alexandria, VA

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush PiX CR25BX 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:

I play in Drop C almost exclusively. I used to be using a Crate 1X6 10W, and almost all the notes sounded the same. This amp has such amazing clarity, and dam good punch for its size. That gain knob is a great feature that the crate was lacking. I play an Ibanez Soundgear, 24 frets 3 pickups. And i just got done using it for over 3 straight hours, so idk what that other guy is talking about. Must have got a lemon :/
