AD30

Comments about Orange Amplifiers AD Series AD30HTC 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Every where I go I always either get compliments from the tone or the aesthetics from the hip orange color. This amp is good work horse that has yet to let me down in any situation(ive had it for almost 2 years, and i bought it used). From recording sessions(hard rock &jazz) to performances to just jam sessions. Ive been able to coax this amp to get a sweet mellow yet with a bit of an edge jazz tone(Orange OB 2x12 cab) to a nice modern metal chug(through a mesa 4x12 cab). When I have the volume on my Gibson custom shop 335 around 6/7 with a clean setting, a nice smooth tone with a hint of break up is produced. But when I roll the volume to 10 then the real bluesy attitude comes out to play. Then with my American Standard Telecaster it produces sweet funk/rock that breaks up real nicely. This amp loves to be cranked, and is loud enough for any setting(usually bigger venues have your amp mic'd so there's no need for 100 watts). So dont let the 30 watts fool you. Also the independent channels and controls is great for a clean and lead setting. The only problem I have is that it doesn't have reverb, but I easily fixed that with a Trex tonebug reverb.

Great Amp for Medium Gain

Comments about Orange Amplifiers AD Series AD30HTC 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've owned the AD30HTC and Orange 2x12 closed back cabinet for about six months now. Before buying the Orange, I was strictly a Marshall guy. The Orange is a completely different animal, and it took a few days to get used to the difference in tone. After tweaking both channels to my liking, I am still in love with this amp. Channel one has heavy low end with the eq set at noon across the board. It isn't mushy like some amps, but gives a very thick tone. The treble knob is very responsive if the heavy low end isn't your thing. Channel two is like a complete different amp. It's tight and aggressive, with a little more gain than channel one. Channel two seems focused more on the lower mids, and will give you more of a Marshall tone. The gain is loose and sort of fuzzy at low volumes, but seems to tighten up a lot at higher volumes. Speaking of higher volumes, this thing is LOUD! My rhythm guitarist uses a 100 watt Marshall DSL, and my 30 watt Orange seems much, much louder. It cuts through the mix like a champ, and I have a hard time getting the master volume past 3 without getting yelled at on stage. I've even considered facing my cabinet to the back of the stage...yeah, it's that loud!! This is an amp that you MUST try before you buy. If you are used to Marshall or Mesa, it may take some getting used to. It has a tube rectifier, so the tone is very loose and fuzzy. It's not a bad thing at all....but if you are looking for modern metal tones this isn't for you. Overall I am very impressed with this amp. I love the fact that both channels do clean to dirty. I really dig being able to use channel one for dirty rhythm, and channel two for leads. It really is like having two amps in one. No bells or whistles, no effects loop....just pure tone monster!
