  First, this damn thing is built like a brick shit house. It truley has one of the richest most versatile clean channels ive ever heard, with a smooth spring reverb that adds outstanding demension and tone. The dirty mode gives the best of all distortion worlds, from a wicked brit crunch,( a la led zeppelin) to a very formatible and worthy metal tone that truley shows how Orange has kept it REAL as well as thinking outside the box. I haven't changed the stock JJ EL34's to test the sound with any of the other 4 power tubes this amp will accept, yet i hope to soon and will follow up the review. Cheers!

• Awesome Orange versitility..but?

  I do not owe this amp and have only noodled with it at GC. I was on the hunt for a little more versatility than my current small amp, Randall RM20 MTS which I mainly use the AC30 preamp. It has a 10 inch green back and can easily go from clean to a AC30 distortion with just volume control on my Strat. It also has a boost. But it has a limit to the tones it can grab without swapping out the preamp for more Fender or Marshall tones. So I have always liked the Orange one off style and the power to tone variability that would be a bit more Fender to Marshall. And that it does! I was even offered $$$s for the Randall on a trade in! Love GC! The problem? Well for this price point you have to walk over and plug into some pretty main line amps. A Twin or Vibro, an Egnator or Engl, a Marshall or the new Line 6 tube amps.. or the Mark V Mesa Boogie! Yeah this is the crown of versatility wrapped up with a bow! I won't go on to far into the V but 45 watts , 3 channels, Channel one (Clean, Fat, Tweed), you can switch into a lower 10 or 45 watt setting to disengage a tube for a different Class A gain structure, amazing clean to crunch here, Channel 2 (Edge, Crunch, Mark I), basically all the classic Mesa and Marshall tones, Channel 3 (Mark IIC+, Mark IV, Extreme) over the top metal tones. The devil is definitely in the details here baby! Even the foot switch is brilliant. You have global settings for reverb, EQ like no other amp.. Anyway you get it.. Why would you pay this much for an Orange? Cut your best deal on the Mark V combo. This is your amp for life!
