Comments about Open Labs MiKo EC5 Keyboard DAW Workcenter:
I use to use an MPC 2000 for all of my sequencing.I would run a midi signal from my Triton keyboard and Motif rack directly into my Akai. The beats I would make were good, but at times it would take me an hour & a half to produce a full song (without vocals). The problem was I would have to switch back and forth from my instruments to my sampler and vise-versa.That's when I heard about the Miko EC-5.I was watching a you tube video of Open Labs interviewing the producer Polow Da Don.The interview was around 10 minutes long,so I was getting a lot of information about the Miko because he spoke about it the entire time.I wanted one as soon as I closed my Internet Explorer.I bought one shortly after from Guitar Center, and when I got in the mail I made my first beat on it that night.I started on it during the day around 3PM but I didn't finish until around 7PM.I didn't mind though it was my first time using it and it's a fun learning expierence.I was hooked! The thing I loved about my Miko was that I didn't have to go back and forth from one machine to the other because everything is all in one.I thought to myself if I didn't already own a studio and I was looking to buy one,I would just purchase a Miko, (or Neko)speakers and maybe a microphone...nothing else. That's the neat thing about the Miko. You can also record vocals. You can even type in a word or phrase from the typewriter and the Miko itself will sing it for you! It comes with Windows XP,a cd burner, dvd burner, windows media player, and Reaper.(For editing)The cool thing about Reaper it reminds me of pro tools. You can see the waveform as if it were designed for vocals. It is, but you can also import instruments as well as plug-ins for your instruments and vocals! The Miko EC-5 is the best piece of studio equipment I have ever owned.
