Comments about Toca Freestyle II Rope-Tuned Djembe:

I bought this item as part of a donation to a kids rock'n roll Summer camp in Lilburn, GA. I received a video clip of the kids performing and having a blast! I didn't buy this thinking "pro gear." I bought it knowing that the kids need something to play that isn't going to fall apart after 2 or 3 jam sessions. (If they stick with it, they can buy their own pro gear!) Anyway, this thing sounded great in the video!

One of the Better Sounding Djembes

    By ARTHUR LOPEZ _

    from Newport News, VA

Comments about Toca Freestyle II Rope-Tuned Djembe:

This Toca Freestyle II Rope Tune Djembe is nicely made, light weight, well-constructed, and sounds great if tuned properly. The finish and clean looking construction of this djembe is great. It has the look of a traditional African drum but uses all of the modern materials of today. The head is synthetic, which is great if you drum in all type of different weather conditions and locations. You don?t have to worry about the rain, humidity, or the beach. Because all the materials are manmade, they stand up to a lot of different conditions. If they get wet, but try not to get them wet, you can wipe them down and they will still sound good. And don?t leave any drum out in direct sun for extended periods of time.I like the rope tuning better than metal hardware tuning. Once you tuned them to the way you like it will remain tune, almost under any conditions. No metal means less weight. I am sure that the rope tuning is by far the best way to tune a djembe. You have 24 to 35 point evenly pulling the skin around the rim. Not like the metal tuning that have about six and no more than eight points of pressure to pull it into tune. And because it is an artificial skin it does not get out of tune like a natural goat skin. With careful placement of some tape on top of the head you can also eliminate the extended ringing that is associated with artificial head. Some people like the ringing, so it is a matter of preference. I do not, so I have a 3inch of white surgical tape on the opposite side from where I strike the head. This stops the ringing from traveling back and forth.Overall I have 7 djembes and this is the one I use to go to the beach with. It is light weight to carry for long distances and I don?t have to worry about it getting destroyed by the elements.

Great Djembe for playing outdoors, drum circles or when there might be bad weather.

Comments about Toca Freestyle II Rope-Tuned Djembe:

Great Djembe for playing outdoors, drum circles or when there might be bad weather. Also nice to bring on trips because it is so light you can take it anywhere AND wear it much longer then a traditional djembe. It is plenty loud to and for a synthetic drum it sounds great!

Toca Freestyle 2 with Synthetic heads

By Djembe Tyconn from the City

    from SF, Calif.

Comments about Toca Freestyle II Rope-Tuned Djembe:

Toca has done it again with a Big improvment in the New Freestyle 2 synthetic djembes and now have added a synthetic head. The Head looks very close to a real goat skin and has incredibale Hi Pitched slaps as well as all Freestyle, Big Very Big base. Also it looks like the ropes are of a higher quality and more rope runners. I have sat this drum out side to see how the head reacts and tuning did not change. I would say with this new head Freestyle 2 beats anything else out there in sound quality and durability of a drum.
