They sound good, but they seem pretty expensive for non-custom shop duncans. But what do I know, are actives usually this expensive or what? They are very clean, even with high gain. Almost.. too clean for my tastes, but they are good pickups. Great for metal but not that versatile. I mean you CAN play blues with them for example, but it just won't be the same as a passive PAF or whatnot.

I'm practicing more everyday. I don't have time for a band at the moment, maybe one day when my kids have moved on.

    Heavy metal thunda!

    By Dustin Sharp _

    from Denver, CO

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

I have 5 guitars, one of those being the Mustaine Zero Angel that comes with passive pickups, I dropped these in and the difference was night and day! Of all my guitars, these pickups are my favorite, with distortion they cut through in an awesome way, and they are clear and ringy on the clean channel. I have played with the Zakk Wylde guitar that has the EMG 81/85 combo, and I MUCH prefer these. EMGs sound flat, where these sound like exactly what they are, amplified classic pickups(they are based on the Duncan JB pup).

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

Was hoping it would sound as mentioned in other reviews and it did not disappoint. Cost me as much as my guitar to buy and install the pickups but I ain't complaining.

Probably the most versatile active pickup I've ever played.

    By GuitarPlayerZero

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

These are probably my favorite active humbucker set. I need versatility and these little babies deliver. No wonder Dave has these loaded in all his guitars.
They're pretty much your standard active humbuckers with no coil split option, but if you're buying this set then I seriously doubt you're after single coil sounds.
Everything is very sturdy and durable. I've had them for about 4 years now and they're just as rock solid and look and sound just as good as the day I installed them. The pups and pots were made for some serious performance and can easily survive the wildest of playing. They seem to have the same kind of frequency response as a passive pickup, but have the hotter output of an active. You can't ask for a lot more than that. For those of you who are curious what they sound like if you 18 volt mod them, they seem to just have hotter output as there isn't really any compression to compete against. That said, after I modded mine, I kept it that way.
Cheaper than EMG without the sterile, compressed tone. Granted the EMG X-series and JH set have seemed to overcome this to an extent, the Dave Mustaine Livewires just seem to really do the trick. There's not much you can't do with these pickups if you know how to dial in your sound properly.

Screaming crisp metal sounds yet incredibly rich when playing clean.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

These pickups are amazing. I am still excited to play my guitar and pick it up every day and play for hours. They sound just like Dave Mustaine, now if I could only play as good as him. The secret to getting a great sound is to adjust the pickup height as close to the strings as possie. Fine tune your sound at a lower amp volume so that when you crank it up lower frequencies don't muddy up your sound. I am so happy with them and may buy another pair.
Fantastic sounds! An excellent addition to my not so expensive guitar. I have the Zakk Wylde EMGs in my other guitar and I am pleased with the contrast between the two in the studio.
Supplied capacitors are large and took up valuable space in the knob compartment. If you plan on running 18 volt you will need to keep the wiring organized and to a minimum. Be sure to wrap the battery(s) in electrical tape to prevent them from shorting out on the switch or volume pots.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

Came with my Dean VMNT. Loved them the first day. These are my first active pickups. I've never played the EMGs so can't actually compare. but they're good enough for my requirements.

    WOW

    By LeMan

    from Seattle, WA

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

These pickups have a punch, a STRONG PUNCH. On there web site samples, they don't have a clean setting... So, That might be a bad thing. Very high output, probably highest I've heard. Just get a Dimebucker, there a lot more full. From what I've heard, not much clean... If you're a metal-head, go ahead!

    Great sounding, poor pots

    By Jason-r62AW

    from Redding, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

These pickups replaced a pair of EMG's, and they sound amazing. They went in an ESP that originally had EMG passives, but they sound SOOO much better than my Viper 1000 Deluxe with 81/85's. The EMG distortion is definatly heavier and more unique, but I like the tonal variety that these livewires give. Sounds great distorted and AWESOME clean. Didn't know I could get that clear of tone out of actives. The Pots, however, were a bitch to solder and definatly did not impress me. The hardware provided with it wasn't the highest quality but these pickups more than make up for that. I am, however, still chasing electrical gremlins...mostly in the jack, but that could be my fault.

    Tone Machines

    By MCR23

    from D.C. Metro / NOVA

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:

These are some mean pups. For those of you that do not care for EMGs, these pickups will address all the issues you have. They are warm yet crisp and clear. Moreover, they respond EXTREMLY well to pick attack. I happen to like the EMG 81/60 combo I have in my '85 Reissue explorer but these came on my Dean Mustaine Angel of Deth and I cannot think of a bad thing to say about them. Seymour did an awesome job designing these. So, if you want the clarity and punch of active pickups but don't want the sterility and compression of EMGs, than look no further than these pups. Seymour just gave all those passive-pickup tone junkies the best of both worlds.
