When I first saw the price tag, I had to take a second glance. Peavey's 6505 line has always been very reasonably priced, but this seemed too low. I realized it's made in China and that's why it's priced so generously, but I decided to take a chance and buy it anyway. So far it's been pretty good. I don't really gig much at the moment, but I still crank it when I can. The best part is at 60 watts, it can do low volumes and high volumes. If you buy this expecting thunderous power when you're only using it as a 112, you might be disappointed. It's definitely the beefiest, thickest sounding 112 I've heard, but it's not a 212 and certainly not a 412. However, you have the option to add another cab, and I take advantage of that. WOW, now we're talking! I use a Mesa Rec 212 and they compliment each other nicely. Thick, full sound with plenty of crunchy midrange, even when it's low. One thing to note is that the amp isn't noisy at all. I feared I'd have to buy a noise gate, but that isn't the case. However, to bring the most out of this amp, I use an MXR 10 band EQ. The one negative I have, is that it's difficult to manage the notorious high end, "sizzle," that this amp produces. I use a medium amount of gain so it's not too bad, but if the gain goes above six and drifts into metal territory, it's really obnoxious. I haven't tried new tubes, but no matter what speakers or pickups I use, it's there. Despite that, I'm giving this amp 5 stars...but that's because there's no 4.5 star option. It's been a great amp, and as long as the craftsmanship holds up, I'll be keeping it around for a while.

It pains me to give a Peavey amp only three stars, but there's a good reason why. I gave this amp three stars because it's kind of a one trick pony. It's pretty easy to get a good heavy metal tone from it (no surprise there), and this new installment in the 6505 line does have reverb, but the clean channel sounds very harsh, really thin and very "ice-pick" like on the high strings (B and E, specifically). I had to back down the clean treble and the master presence quite a bit before the channel became usable to my ears. I was surprised at how good the crunch mode on the clean channel sounded, because of this. I'm not sure how much a speaker swap would help, but out-of-the-box, be prepared to have to work for a decent clean tone should you choose this amp.

Great amp, I was able to get a good clean tone despite everyone saying you can't really. One of the power tubes went out after about 5 months. Great amp but if you want a heavy tone get a distortion or override pedal. Overall great amp

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

The lead channel is great. All the gain you want. A lot of people bash the cleans on this amp, but if you keep the mids and treble below 5 and the bass above 5, you can get some really nice cleans. Make sure your pre gain is set low as well. That said, I would look elsewhere if you're not buying this amp for rock/metal, though it is surprisingly versatile.
I didn't give it five stars because it's heavy and could be easier to get really nice cleans out of (even though they are there).

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

I use this when I jam with my son or my buds in basement studio. I love sound/tone of this thing. I 've heard complaints about whether it plays clean or not. To me I don't get what they are complaining about...sounds great clean or dirty. I'm pretty much a metal head and this amp suits me fine. For the price they have included the foot switch

    Perfect for teh br00tulz

    By Jimmy

    from Maumee, Ohio

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

Man, this amp sounds MASSIVE. It takes a while to dial in but that's half the fun. I should mention that this amp will NOT do any really heavy stuff without an overdrive or a booster. But with that said, this is also a good hard rock amp. The distortion is big and bass-y and isn't afraid to feedback, so you should probably get a noise gate. The presence and resonance knobs help dial in the treble and bass even further than the effective eq section. Every note jumps out at you and slaps you AND your family in the face... Lol so anyway the clean channel isn't really that clean and if you turn the preamp down at all it sounds like it chokes the sound a bit, so I would leave the preamp on 10 or turn it down and use a booster to open it up a little. It almost sounds bluesy/ jazzy. So you either like it or you don't. This amp is perfect for metal of any sort with a good tubescreamer in front of it. So overall, I am extremely happy with this amp. Though, if you play more rock or cleaner stuff, I would instead consider the Marshall DSL-40C due to the (lack-thereof) clean channel on this amp. The Marshall is also lighter and smaller with the same size speaker. Basically this amp is really only meant for metal and rock variants.

    Bad Mutha

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

let me start by saying if you need a footswitch (since this doesn't come with one) get the valveking/windsor footswitch.$45 it will change channels from clean to overdrive and the boost will change the clean to crunch. so now follow me back in time... i used to have a 120watt 6505+ and a marshall cab... thing was the nuts! but WAY too loud to be MIC'D at any bars i played, and heavy and cumbersome.. id have to bring down to level 1 and lose all the balls of the tube sound... so fast fwd to today... i tried mesas, marshalls and a few others... none had the balls this amp has but to be fair to the others tone i prefer a high gain almost solid state sound like pantera.. the 60 watts is perfect for small gigs and practice, and to top it all off this amp has a MSDI XLR out making MIC'ing at gigs uneccessary.. awesome! none of the other 6505s have this option.. atleast i dont think... its a bit on the heavy side approx 65lbs but no cabinet to haul! just a suggestion though.. pickup an amp stand with it.. youll be glad you did... peace!

    6505+

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

You wont find a better or louder combo for the price. This thing has great tone. and a huge sound. Not to mention its excellent reputation. it took some tweaking around with my effects to get my tone right. but i have no complaints. Have used it live and for recording. The MSDI sounds great in the studio. The only problem i encountered was the fact that its is a noisy amp.but thats to be expected from a high gain amp...My solution was a Boss NS-2. Works great and is reliable.

3rd Time is always a charm...

    By Russell Richardson,Jr

    from New Orleans

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

This is my 3rd review on this amp. Let me say that I have demoed this amp in GC for the past 5 years and I finally can say it is a perfect amp. The main complaint with this amp is that the clean channel is not that great and the dirty channel can be all over the place. I spoke with a guy on the Peavey forum who said that putting a patch cable in the loop would make this amp a beast. I tried it in GC and he was right. The cleans were way better,it even had more bottom end to it. The distortion channel warmed up a bit,but still got that heavy distorted tone. It also made the amp sound way better at low volumes. Give it a try.

    Peavey 6505+ Combo

    By Walter Perez

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

I've had this amp for a few weeks and it sounds amazing, even at low volumes. I use a TS9 with it and the sound is a metal guitarists' dream. I play songs by artist such as Metallica, Bullet for My Valentine, All That Remains, and Avenged Sevenfold and this amp covers the tone pretty well. I don't have much of a feedback problem and I don't use a noise suppressor pedal. Overall, this amp is perfect for metal and it will not disappoint.

    HARDCORE!!!

    By Jake Miles

    from Springfield, Missouri

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

Played guitar for nearly 7 years, and the Peavey 6505 has got to be the greatest combo for the price. Perfect for any small to medium sized gigs. Advantages: Has all of the gain a metal head could ever dream of. Perfect for Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, or any metal player. This amp is also very easy to use, as long as you know the difference between pre and post gain. Tubes don't take very long to warm up either. Cons: This amp is a freakin heavy 60 watt. Probably 60-70 lbs, but that isn't too much an issue. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the clean channel. Really is kind of disappointing and I don't recommend this amp unless you don't use your clean channel a whole lot. That being said, I own an Ibanez RG2EX1 and I am sure there are some guitars that would make this clean channel better. Overall, this amp is perfect for any hard rock or metal player. This thing is a steal for the price. Buy it now and RAWK ON!!
