I got this amp to get a full rich Marshall sound at a volume I could play after 10pm without shaking the windows. The low power setting gives me that & also can get the gain to get feedback (good feedback for things like Hendrix) at excellent recording volumes. With an SM57 aimed near the edge of the speaker cone I get just what I hear in the room recording on the track. The 5 watt setting can run the doggies out of the room, it's louder by far than the 10 watt solid state practice amp I've been using. I've had it a couple of weeks now & I find the tone steady improving as the tubes & speaker break in. The Tone Shift is great for tracking rhythm on in 1 channel and off in the other - very full track that way. I use a Boss Noise Gate, EQ, & '65 reverb into the front end & a Boss Nose Gate in the effects loop on only for very high gain in Ultra Gain channel. I'm getting way more practice time now that I can jam after dinner, almost every night now. Maybe the practice is helping it sound better too. Bottom line Great Amp & I'd buy another if anything happened to this one.

Hi,
Been a Big Marshall fan ever since the 70s. Had both tube and solidstate. Being I am 60 years young I know what a real Marshall made in the UK is suppose to sound like. And this ain't it. I had high hopes for
a more compact amp I could use around the house. But what a dissapointment. First the clean sounds
too bright and like a solid state. You have to turn it all the way up to get any crunch which still does not
get there. Second the ultra sound is the worst. No crunch even at a 2 setting on the preamp. Its all distorted the higher you go, but a bad kind of unclear fizzy distortion. Also its a distortion that can't even be used for metal. I can't believe they could produce something like this an actually put it on the market. Just sold mine today.

awesome amp

Comments about Marshall DSL5C 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo with Celestion Ten-30:

this is my first tube amp and after a lot of research "a lot" of playing the sl5, dsl15c, dsl40c, fender blues juniors, some line 6's and vox. i ultimately decided to go for this one for the simple reason that i will be using it as a bedroom amp. having the fx loop option is what made me decide for this amp over the dsl15c ( which by the way sounds louder but not better) the fender blues junior was lacking that umph so was the vox ( i had 600 budget so trying the sl5 and dsl40c where only to compare). overall the amp is perfect for my use, i have a 15*15 studio/practice room, so i dont need a huge amp to practice. i would not use it at a gig but what i will do is upgrade the Celestion ten 30 to a Celestion g10 gold. why they did not do this will puzzle me for ages. the only reason why i am giving it 4 stars is because even tho it has an aux input is does not output to the speakers, it will only work when you use headphones simultaneously. the only downside. other than that it sounds great, i put a tc hall of fame reverb pedal and a digitek looper ( which has the aux option so i can use backing tracks ) in the fx loop and the amp sounds as beautiful as I would expect it to be. so buy it if you want to jam in your room, maybe a small two or three man band. but do not buy it if you think you're going to blow out the windows in your neighbors house.

Could not be happier

By STEVE JONES _

Comments about Marshall DSL5C 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo with Celestion Ten-30:

Wow, this is everything I wanted in a practice amp: all tube, affordable, light-weight, 2-channel, FX loop and headphones/line out. However, I got more than I expected due to it's amazing tones and responsiveness. On the clean channel, I get nice sparkling tones on the neck pickup at about 2.5 on the amp's volume. Then, I either run it directly into the board via the line-out (for quiet play) or mic it. Either way, I can get it to the volume I need so having only 1 or 5 watts is no drawback. The high gain channel on the bridge pickup delivers an extremely pleasing Marshall lead tone and I can easily clean it up to a gritty crunch using my guitar's volume knob. IMO, there is nothing better than a Les Paul thru a Marshall. I generally prefer 12" speakers but the 10" seems to deliver everything I need and it saves on cost and weight. Weight is important to me because I do a solo gig and I am the sole roadie. I run a Visual Sound Dual Tap delay thru the FX loop and a Box of Rock for its additional boost and crunch when needed. I could not be happier with the result. I would recommend this amp to anyone who is looking for similar features. Kudos to Marshall...

Better than expected!

By MARK

Comments about Marshall DSL5C 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo with Celestion Ten-30:

After my Fender transformer died, I went in search of a valve amp (I despise transistor amps -- too weak and fake sounding)for home use and bought the DSL5 last month. This amp has wonderful tonal variations, presence and is loud!! The clean channel is bright and crisp with full non-distorted presence when not closely dimed out -- be it at 5 watts or attenuating it down to 1 watt. The gain channel is superb. The "deep" setting is a fantastic addition for: 1. clean jazzy things and wanting your bass notes to impact, 2. Strat tones remaining bright on the treble strings while sounding bassy and full on bass strings ala Hendrix (think Monterey Pop; "Wind Cries Mary") and Trower circa 1975 live sound (e.g.,"Daydream"), and 3. gaining the low bass impact on a Les Paul (ala live Duane Allman -- who used a Marshall bass head, by the way). I am foremost a blues player, not a heavy metal player; however, this amp has that shredder sound at the push of a button and rolling off all middle. I would have loved to have this amp on stage back in the day -- would have saved my ears, while sounding better (though would not have had the look) than the 100 watt Marshall setup I played through. I want to include an asterisk with my 5 * rating as it does not have reverb (though I rarely use reverb).

good but not great

Comments about Marshall DSL5C 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo with Celestion Ten-30:

I have been looking at the DSL line for a few months now and was originally geared towards the DSL15C but when I was told about this by a Guitar Center employee I was geared towards it. first off the sound is amazing , you really do get that marshall sound, but its plain. what i mean is that there are no effects besides gain and few switches to make it deeper and cleaner but it is what you would expect. the reason i do not give this amp 5 stars it's only because its just not what i was expecting 100% but for someone who loves pedals and cannot play too loud at times its perfect. not for gigging what made me get this amp was the fact that it has an audio input port in the back and the FX loop option which the DSL15C is missing. now what is not told to you is that you cannot use the audio input without it being at half power (1W) and ONLY when using headphones. this is my biggest disappointment, because now i have to have at least two pedals one with the reverb and one with an audio jack if i wanted to jam without my headphones on overall the amp feels strong. it sounds amazing for the size and the price. great practice amp in your bedroom or small venues. perfect if you already have a pedal board and just need a little amp that will not disturb your neighbors. to me, i will be returning this amp and getting the DSL15C which lacks the audio jack and FX loop but has more onboard effects and louder sound which i can use in small venues.

I trade in my 40 watt amp for this little Marshall. This amp is perfect for using at home but don't let the 5 watt fool you. It has plenty of volume and the sound attenuator is great, takes the volume down but you still have the tone. I can't say enough about this amp, if your looking for a small amp for home or small venue use this is it

I've used a Marshall TSL full stack for years with my band. It took a lot of tweaking to get "my sound" out of it but I never got it exactly right. I tried this little amp out and fell in love. The tone and crunch (imho) is superior to my TSL. This little amp has the sound I've been searching 20 years for. I can dial in everything from blues to metal but without having to squash my mids. Perfect for home recording and sounds like HEAVEN with alnico pickups. If you want LOUD look elsewhere but if you want TONE this is it. Try it, you'll like it!

Marshall tube tone at manageable levels. The 1 watt mode is perfect for home. Other then it not having reverb, I have nothing negative to say about it . Love the distortion. Perfect marshall sound in a size that fits my needs for home practice and writing. Very impressed with the sweet marshall sound at this size! Effects loop and footswitch included make it even a sweeter deal. After a tube upgrade it'll probabaly sound even better.
