Overview

The Marshall DSL100H tube guitar amp head has footswitchable Classic Gain and Ultra channels, each boasting two modes - Clean/Crunch and Lead 1/Lead 2 respectively. These will take you from Plexi-style, pristine clean to JCM800 snarl, hot-rodded 2203, high gain lead and all points in-between. The flexibility of the shared 5-way EQ (Treble, Middle, Bass, Resonance and Presence) section is increased further by a Mid-Shift button - perfect for modern metal brutality.

A series FX loop on the rear panel (bypassable via an on/off switch) adds to the DSL100H's professional flexibility, as does the Pentode (Full Power)/Triode (Half Power) switch which drops the power-amp's output to 50-Watts. It also changes the amp's tonal character as Triode mode produces a smoother, less aggressive sound.

Features
  • Two footswitchable channels - Classic Gain & Ultra Gain
  • Two Modes per channel for extra flexibility
  • Footswitchable, studio-quality, digital Reverb with Level control for each channel
  • Shared 5-way EQ - Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence & Resonance
  • Mid-Shift button adds to the amp's tonal flexibility
  • Pentode/Triode switch to drop power down from 100W to 50W
  • Bypassable series FX loop
  • 2-way footswitch supplied

Very Nice Marshall Head. I wanted something that would allow me to get the raw power of the 100 Watt head without getting another JVM series Amp or a Soldano. Around the home in particular. I had to use a Marshall Power brake to glow the tubes so I could get the right sound but dial back the volume. With the DSL and the new pentode/triode switch on the back,it allows you to knock it back from 100 watts to 50 watts, I don't need the power brake on this rig. And I get the level of saturation/distortion and reverb I want. The raw power and grit. That great Marshall sound. And with all the effects pedals I have and normally use, so far, I haven't used a single one. I love the punch of this amp. I play Strats, Les Pauls and PRS primarily, all sound great. The design of the head is simple and reminds me of my Soldano. I'm extremely pleased with this head, and especially with the price. And again, with Guitar Center. Great Customer Service Department.

Umm. Well as a kid I had a Marshall a really really old one from the sixty's it was only like six hundred bucks and all it gave me was an extremely loud clean tone. It worked for ever and ever and I abused it in every club in the three state area. I got this one home and was like hmm clean tone number 2 is cool for blues. Reverb is alright. Umm the gain channels aren't tight and the bottom end is floppy like bad its muddy and awful sounding. And two weeks later it laid down. I was so disappointed with it I took it back to C.F at the O.P Ks location and he ordered me a Used Carvin V3. Now that is a superior piece of equipment. I know its an American amp but you can run EL34's and its got three channels you can actually use the clean bluesy and metal channels all with the foot switch and none of the channels suck and its used and it hasn't laid down not once. excellent Customer Service and I played this amp in the store for an hour before I bought it I brought it back in and I don't even remember him asking me what was wrong with it.

Comments about Marshall DSL100H 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

First off, I don't know why I've heard/read any negative comments about the DSL 100. It took me too many years to pull the trigger on this (because of some of the less than stellar reviews on the DSL line. I've been using Mesa and EVH for years while avoiding Marshall with some of the bad press they get. I started really getting into that hot-rodded Marshall sound with Friedman, Splawn, Ceriatone, etc... then I thought, why not get the original. I picked up a DSL 40C, and I can get that amp to rock! I enjoyed that unique, creamy and crunchy Marshall tone so much, I picked up the DSL 100, and I couldn't be happier. I play in cover band and have to generate tones that go from hard rock (say, def leppard) to clean funky stuff (like Bruno Mars). I absolutely love the brutal crunchy tones I can get AND the clean channel works really well fro what I need. There's just something special that only Marshall can produce, but I guess those who don't like the DSL are not working with the amp enough to coax out Marshall's best. For me, it was all about "less is more".... specifically, the gain in the "Ultra Gain" channel. Much like a Mesa Mark V will get flubby if you turn up the bass with very much gain, you have to use the treble and presence in the right ratios with the gain. The gain does get fizzy as it approaches 50%, so you just have to use the part that sounds good, which works for me as I've never been a fan of so much gain that note articulation is lost. I know it's all a mater of taste, and I've not had it long enough to determine the reliability, but right now, I'm playing better with this tone and enjoying it more than my other amps. If you play venues large enough to allow you to open up your amps a bit, don't hesitate, this is a great amp that compares to the best of them.

Comments about Marshall DSL100H 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have been wanting this amp for months. The lead guitarist in my band bought a Dual Rectifier so in order for my guitar to be heard at all i needed something loud enough to hang with it and give me a different tone that blends well with his amp. Spent tons of time dialing in the perfect tone on the one in the demo room at my local guitar center. Now I have finally ordered one and I couldn't be happier. I can get tones reminiscent of anything from Guns N Roses, AC/DC, and Metallica out of it. A tube screamer really brings this thing to life though. Once you push it with an overdrive (I use a TS9 on Lead 1 with mid scoop) this amp becomes perfect for thrash metal. The tone I use pretty much sounds like the damaged justice tour from 1989.

My experience so far is that this amp can cut through a mix, sound perfectly heavy enough for me, and really bring out the fast style of downpicking i love to show off. All you Big 4 fans, look no further than this amp.

Went to Guitar center and played a few amps including a Hughes and Kettner tubemeister, but i ended up the DSL100h because I found it was so versatile. I could get many good sounding tones out of this amp! This is a great amp for a guitarist that wants to get his or her first tube amp!

Comments about Marshall DSL100H 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm in a thrash metal band called Radiatrix and use this head for all shows. It's more than heavy enough for thrash and it can obviously get the classic Marshall rock tones. The only thing about this amp that I don't like is that you can't switch from clean to crunch or from lead 1 to lead 2 with the footswitch.

It broke as soon as I bought it, meaning I plugged it in and the motherboard melted. Guitar center couldn't fix it, Marshall had to. I had to go to a third party company about 45 minutes from where I live. When it worked, this amp was amazing.

I always wanted a Marshall amp and finally i was able to get this one, even at entry level it's a great value for the price.
Yes it sounds a bit muddy if you exaggerate with the resonance control , but at least is controllable.
the reverb is a whole different issue.
Very week sounding especially in ultra mode.
But overall a very good product.

          Definitely NOT the JCM2000 protege

          By LONNIE JONES

          from Denver, CO

Comments about Marshall DSL100H 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Maybe I had a unit that was poorly biased? But I don't have time to change tubes and re-bias. I need something that rocks right out of the box. The gain channel on this amp had zero warmth. I found it sterile and completely unusable. The clean channel was good like you would expect from Marshall. The digital reverb was very very weak. I've owned two JCM2000 units over the years, and bought this one as a replacement for one that died. The gain channel sounds nothing like the JCM2000. All tubes fired up and working fine. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
