I bought these headphones just looking for a cheap pair that I can take anywhere without worrying about damaging them. When I first took them out of the box you can smell the leather used for the headband. The design is overall very plain, and consists of a lot of plastic. The padding on the ear cuffs are thin, but don't irritate your ears after long use. The oval shape fit your ears allowing for longer use without pain. Cord length is very long, allowing for studio use, but when you want to use them to travel your going need a twist tie to wrap up long cord. In the box it comes with a 6.3mm jack converter for kits. Overall the sound is very good, with really good treble sound. The flaws are in its use of bass which this headphone lacks the power needed to produce loud and clear bass. These are the best headphones you could buy for the price, if your just starting out or just want something to use just to listen to music these headphones are for you.

I was looking for a cheap set of headphones for everyday use. This is not the set to get. The end of the cord is very weak and it broke in one week of me using it. The overall model is weak feeling and is't strong at all, it isn't durable at all. The sound quality of them are great, but its durablitly is terrible. I couldn't go take them to go running or anything that might make them shake or move a lot.

Not made for monitoring your sound

By Art Truss

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Fostex TX-1 Headphones:

I bought this earphone set to replace an old Yamaha set whose foam ear pads and head band were deteriorating. The price was good;however, the sound quality was terrible. The Fostex sounds like the bass was enhanced and the mids and highs were diminished, which completely through off all my sound settings. I never knew just how good my Yamaha set sounded until I used the Fostex set. The Fostex set may be OK for playing video games but not for sound monitoring. I did not even like how the Fostex set made watching the TV sound which made all the voices sound unnatural. The Fostex set did seem to be made well and they were comfortable to wear.

I cannot believe how amazing these are for the price!

By Alan Overman

Comments about Fostex TX-1 Headphones:

I asked to try these at the store as well as a pair of sennheiser that cost a bit more. I liked the sound of these ones better, they are a bit more heavy & bulky than the other brand, but I am just using these around the house, so no biggie. I only had my phone to plug them into there & they sounded decent. I just got home & plugged these into my laptop & I am blown away, it sounds like a big stereo, I can't believe how well they sound for the small price tag. I am very impressed!

    Comments about Fostex TX-1 Headphones:

I got these on sale on GC during their extended Black Friday deals and for the price they're great. I got them so I could practice at late hours without disturbing the neighbors and they're great for that. They come in an 8th inch cable format, but have a decent quarter inch adapter included. They're comfortable to wear for long periods of time and have a long cable. The cable is located in an area that won't get in the way of you playing your guitar or bass.

Here's the down side. These head phones are very bassy so if you plan on using them to record guitar, bass, vocal or any other instrument your sound will be off when listen to it through regular speakers. If I tweak the sound they're great for home practice, late night jamming and listen to music, but aren't good for digital recording in my opinion.

I bought these for home practice and for late night jams so for what I paid for them I'm very happy. If I was going for more I would of spent more money on something for digital recording and professional use, but for what I use them for they more than do the job.

        Comments about Fostex TX-1 Headphones:

The headphones have exceptional sound, good bass. I use the headphones when I play the guitar. They are the perfect style, fit and weight when playing. Great use for guitar players that plug into an iRig. They come with a convenient duo plug for both an amp or an iPhone. The twp plugs screw into one another for durability, so the connection is not done cheaply. They look and feel expensive, almost like you feel bad for getting them under $50.00. There is no volume control, or any knobs on the headphones, but it really is no issue. I really like that the headphone cord because it is long enough (approx. 10 - 15 feet) to move around and not be tied to a small diameter space when playing your guitar. Excellent buy. I would most definitely purchase these again. The quality and craftsmanship is superb. I would buy the Silver and Black because they look and feel the most expensive.

Mine lasted about 50 days, just outside of the return window at GC. Fostex only pays return shipping back to the customer, so instead of wasting my money on shipping to them I am cutting my losses. Look elsewhere and don't buy this junk.

These have REALLY good sound for the money. I was really disappointed in these. They stopped working the day that I got them. Something like a short in the cable. I took them back the next day and picked up some Audio Technica ATH-M20 head phones. Much better build quality really good sound. Don't get these.
