Great sounding, extremely portable.

By QualityGuy

from NY

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

The Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp delivers great sound quality for its size. Other mini-amps have a very "plastic"-like sound. This amp can be blasted at full gain, and still maintain a usable sound. The headphone output also is great to practice with headphones on the road without having to use a big effects pedal, or a big amp. The Fender Mini Twin Amp offers three knobs to use. These are Volume, Tone, and Drive. Obviously it doesn't have outstanding sounds, but this Fender Mini Twin gives you a nice sound to use on the road, or when you are away from home... All Mini-Amps for around this price are more or less the same, but I found this one to be a bit better than the rest. It honestly doesn't matter which mini amp you choose, but if you want some decent control and tone, the Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp is a good choice for you.

Sturdy little amp for under $100

By cjkershner

from New York, NY

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

During an extraordinary bout of procrastination, I decided to add a pick-up to my ukulele. It is a cheapish Hilo uke (so cheap that Guitar Center doesn't like to admit they sell them), and I was prepared to throw down whatever cash was needed to see what sort of sounds I could get out of it. I had attached a K&K Hot Shot piezo pick-up just below the sound hole under the strings and then trotted off to my local Guitar Center to purchase an amp. I'd done a little research on-line and settled for the Fender '57 Mini Twin for a number of reasons, namely: looks, price, and size (in that order). Imagine my amusement when I walked into the store, asked for the Fender [Mini] Twin, and was shown to the full-sized amplifier. The sales rep's face was priceless when I told him I planned to hook it up to an ukulele. Then, I explained that he'd misunderstood me and I was looking for the smaller version. What did I expect from an amp that cost $50 and came in a plastic-and-cardboard sleeve? Not much. But the truth is, I'm quite surprised by how well it has performed. The retro styling, with the chicken-headed knobs and tweed covering, draws a lot of attention at gigs and it's small enough to stick -- cables and all -- into a backpack. A 9V battery powers the twin 2" speakers for a considerable period (I've yet to change it), and it accepts power from a 9V DC plug. The volume and tone is decent, as is the drive. It's not an amp for audiophiles, but its portability, looks, and price suits me fine for simply uking around.

well worth the price

By Unholy Passion

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

The '57 Mini Twin Amp is well worth the price when you hear it's clear tone. Through the dual speakers, it's just loud enough to keep your songs down to a personal level, but put on a pair of headphones and you'll hear how this amp is meant to be heard. There isn't much distortion, but if you buy a vintage style amp, you should be looking for vintage tone, and it's presented hear nicely. The Mini Twin is just loud enough for personal play and the quality of it's features and it's durability make the price unbeatable. I paid more for a Danelectro mini amp, and it only lasted a month. The amp will present you with smaller details in sound also, I played my guitar as an upright because I don't have a bass, and it picked up all the neck slaps without any feedback or scratching. You can't beat the price on such a small powerful amp that's looks so good. It'd make a great gift.

Fender Mini Twin Amp

By ccasch

from PIttsford, NY

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I bought this much like many others who are taken by this amp's vintage look, along with it's portability and sound. I bought two to run them in stereo from my fx processor so I can travel with a stereo rig to hotels, or guest stays. Easy to use, easy to make great sounds with. I play both my Les Paul Standard and Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster through the Mini Twin and never have a second thought about this being a junk product. Absolutely great for jamming anytime and anywhere!

A Bark and a bite

By Supermuffbigfuzz

from Boston, MA

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

This mini-amp comes with a great deal of energy. Perfect for simple power chord -riffs, but lacks a clean volume. Turning the drive down also turns off the volume, apparently. The pure emotion of the drive makes this okay;however. I highly recommend this to the beginner, starting out by learning said riffs by ear.

57 Mini Amp

By Mike

from Florida

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

For what this amp does, it does it well. It is only one watt, but it has a built in distortion. It sounds okay and it is incredibly portable. Not only is it all of these things but it looks awesome and very vintage. And, at the price that these have been selling, Id say its the best portable amp on the market.

tube-ish sound!

By Joe

from ogden, utah

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

This little amp is a lifesaver if you need to play at low volumes and don't want to use headphones! It sounds great as long as you dial it in right. The cleans are a little quiet, but I have noticed that this little amp responds very well to your guitar's volume, and surprisingly well to your picking. It isn't as responsive to picking as a real tube amp, but its more responsive than my solidstate Peavey Vypyr!

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I just wanted/needed a very small and fairly quiet little amp to use at home for practice that wouldn't disturb the neighbors. Even in the middle of the night if I wanted. I got tired of wearing headphones in that situation. This little amp is perfect for that. Nice and quiet if I want. But it can get pretty loud too for it's size. And it's got great sound. An excellent practice tool.

    Oh what a feeling!

    By RWK

    from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

After having tried about every mini amp on the shelf between the 2 GC's in my area and the local Indy music stores I picked up this little guy and can say I am completely happy. It's got plenty of volume, looks fantastic, has great sound, and gives you some modicum of control over output. It's completely portable, has a great finished look to it as opposed to some of the others out there. I was tempted to try the MS-4 but as no one stocks it in my area and it's a good $20 more than I paid for this, it was a no brainer to pick this one up. My recommendation is too take your guitar with you and try out any amp big or small before you buy, you will definitely save your self some time and gas money and frustration as well.

    Premium!

    By D Tro

    from Des Moines, IA

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

This amp sounds great, with or without taking price into consideration. I was looking for a small and inexpensive amp for home use, and this is it! I tried the Vox Amplug w/ mini cabinet and was unimpressed. I plugged into the Mini Twin and was blown away by the difference in sound! The amp can give you a super clean tone, or a high-gain, distorted tone. I feel like this amp is very versatile, a great value, and sounds great for the price. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small, inexpensive practice amp for personal use (so long as you aren't playing metal). Plus; the amp looks great! You will not be disappointed!

    Sounds great, but be careful...

    By Richard Egnot

    from Cleveland, OH

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I originally got the Danelectro Hodad, the one with the effects, but the only good sound it had was the 50's-ish slapback echo, which has very few applications. Plus, I liked that the Fender minis were a little larger. SO, I got this one home and plugged in the 9v adapter I got for it. I smelled the familiar scent of burning electronics, and lo and behold, this little guy was billowing white smoke. Oops. I still have no idea why, but not being one to give up, I threw a 9v battery in (in my mind, to total the devastation before having to return yet another mini-amp) and the 9v battery makes this work like an absolute dream. It sounds great, even mic'ed up, well enough to blend with my 100-watt Marshall half stack. The amp itself looks great. Real tweed cover, wood cab, real grille cloth, and the nice little leather handle looks great. I can only assume mine is defective, but I don't feel like returning it and dealing with another item on backorder, which seems to be getting more and more common with GC. My advice: don't get this if you're opposed to batteries. Don't even bother trying it with an adapter if you're a battery person. As long as you can work with that, enjoy what may be the greatest mini-amp ever.

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I collect all the mini amps and they are really just to display. My first was the Marshal stack which sounded horrible so I assumed ALL did. The Orange is the best built, highest quality but is a high gain one trick pony. However the Fender 57 sounds surprisingly warm and the controls work well. From fairly clean to good grit. Also takes pedals well. A tube screamer dialed low really brings out the tone. Only complaint is it is one of the lowest in volume but I will take that over those that are brittle and thin.

        Great Fender Tone

        By Fender Man

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I got this amp the other day and I could not be more pleased with it. It can get very loud for its size. It looks great the tweed covering does a lot for the looks of this amp. I just wish the over drive was just a little bit clearer. In my opinion it is absolutely worth every penny you pay for this thing.

        Serious Tones

        By raf66

        from Midwest

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

Great sound at of this little thing! I plug my Fender American Standard Strat into this and use it around the house so I don't wake up the kids (or don't offend anyone due to my amateurish playing skills). The tweed really gives it a great look. I had to return the first one I bought as one of the speakers had come loose and was rattling around inside the case but the 2nd one I got has been fine. It seriously has me considering purchasing a non-mini Fender amp since I've been so happy with this little fella. Really, for the price you can't beat it.

        1w of RAGING POWER

        By Bryce Stone

        from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Fender '57 Mini Twin Amp:

I picked this up as a gift for a guitarist thinking they would enjoy it, THEY LOVE IT. I was quite shocked to hear the great tone coming from this thing. I immediately went out and bought one for myself for my electric violin after playing with it (which also sounds great on this amp). It absolutely makes for a great little practice amp, especially with the 9v battery option you can carry this thing around the house or to your backyard. As far as durability goes it is light, which I dont view as a bad thing, definitely seems like it can take quite a bump. Also the tweed is some awesome icing on this beautiful cake.
