This is the one!

By G

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I walked into guitar center expecting to walk out with a Fender Jazz Bass and played it too, but after taking some advice from a store salesman I tried out this beast and I instantly changed my mind. This bass just felt better and had more range with tones than the Fender Jazz. The neck is perfect and fast too, also the finish on the StingRay was great looking and unique compared to all the Fenders in the store. I am more than happy with the choice I made and I think you will be too if you go with a StingRay.

You wouldn't want anything else...

By MMBassist

from Santa Monica

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I bought this bass, after no basses offered all the tones I wanted. The eq on this thing is amazing, I can go from a punchy, light sound, to a booming, low sound - all through a 10 watt amplifier. I use a Gallien-Krueger 700RB Full Stack, and these 2 go together great, no fret buzz or anything. When I took this thing out of the box, everything was PERFECT. The battery hasn't died on me yet, but I do keep a few spares. The finish, however seems to get damaged easily, U accidentally walked into a wall and it hit the side, and there's an unattractive mark on it now. It's also quite heavy, about 10lbs, so I suggest a wide strap. But, this is like an all in one bass.

Could it get any better?

By Ernieballer

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Good quality bass guitars are few and far between these days. But this thing is THE best quality 4-string bass guitar I have ever, and will ever own. From the high quality flawless paint finish, and the awesome woods used, to the best electronics usually found in higher priced basses. Basically you can't go wrong if you purchase this bass. Ask anyone who owns one, there is nothing like playing one of these basses, and they only get better with time.

Music Man Stingray

By Jonathan D.

from Wilsonville, Or

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I have played bass for 2 1/2 years. I have a Fender Jazz, which I love, but I saved up money to get a bass, that would get that real nice slap tone, for Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff. I got the all black with a maple neck, and it's tone is amazing. You can boost up the bass and mid, to get a great hard rock tone, and boost up the treble, to get crazy funk slap. I like the feel of the Rosewood neck, but I like the tone of the Maple more. The Rosewood has a more lower, smooth sound, and the Maple has a bright sound. Tone wise, I give the bas s a 5/5. For Playability I give the bass a 4/5. The Jazz bass has a nicer feeling, and is easier to play, but the Stingray's neck is still great. For reliability, the bass totally deserves 5/5. I can play any style on this bass. I highly recommend!

GROWLS!!!

By Jon

from 11423

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I just bought this great bass 2 weeks ago and when I played a string it just growls like a monster! Everything is good, its a lil bit heavy but I got used to it in a couple of days. This bass is versatile in all genre but I think it is really good for funk/rock which expels more punch/growl. The only thing I am still mad about is that my bass doesn't have a marking that it is made in usa and I already contacted the EBMM company and they think that they forgot to put the mark. Also the hardshell case is too big coz it doesn't fit in the compartment of my car. Other than that BUY this bass, it will be the only bass you will ever need forever.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

this is what a bass was meant to be I love the way the sound resonates off the wood while I'm playing without an amp(true sign of a good guitar or bass) I dare ya compare a fender or any bass u can think of I'll take the musicman, I'm currently using an ampeg 806 SVT cab and I was gonna get a GK 800 RB used then I found the Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 I was blown away by the great tone I got out my rig and I'm positive my musicman is the key . OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH yeah I play multiple styles being a working musician My bass is as at home blasting through the biggest wall of rectos and marshalls as it is in country music. Only downside is I need another 1500 for my next one lol

Finally did it...What took so long

By Music Man Zealot!!

from Florida

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Highly recommended this is the best bass I have ever owned. I have been playing bass for about 25 years & have owned four basses: Rickenbacker, BC Rich Eagle & a 1978 Fender Precision. Most of that time was spent playing my trusted 1978 Fender Precision. After much soul searching I decide trade the old Fender in on a Sting Ray. What was I waiting for? This Sting Ray is the Fender on steroids. The action & neck is pure silk. The tone & response to finger play is remarkable. I have had to adjust my playing technique to play with a lighter touch. The pickup is well balanced. I can now play chords & ring harmonics and they donۡt get lost in the mud. This Sting Ray will take my playing to the next level. I will never regret trading in my old Fender for this Sting Ray.

Lots of Punch and Power

By Anonymous

from Boston, MA.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Let it be known that this bass has some serious power. The on-board active EQ is very cool and lets you fine tune your tone right from the bass. The neck is fatter than a Fender J which is good for people with larger hand, you wont have to cramp your fingers. one thing i like most about the bass is that you can get a very sharp tone that cuts through the mix of distorded guitars in rock music easily. this bass is not subtle by any means (although it can be tweaked for a smoother sound). I get a lot of enjoyment out of this intrument and I know if you are looking for a bass that wont be lost behind roaring guitars and drums, this baby is worth a try. I play the 3-band EQ version through a hartke 3500 head and amped 6-10'' cab. I keep the Graphic EQ on the amp flat while i cut the treble a hair/Boost mids/Boost Bass on the intrument and i run that tone all night at shows. Check it out!

it sounds like a Music man

By Lemur Maki

from Oviedo Florida

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Seeing nothing but rave reviews for this bass, I figured I would at least make mention of a few things anyone interested in buying this bass may find useful. I have owned, and played many, many basses over the years, and I will say that this bass in particular is a very good at it's job. The action out of the box is usually okay (that is saying quite a bit in Florida heat, and humidity). The finish is always very good. The hardware looks good, and overall, the bass plays fairly well. From time to time you do come across one that sounds, plays and looks better than the rest, but that could be said about almost every guitar ever made. so, the real issue with the Music Man Bass is the sound. Well, not an issue. More of a consideration. it tends to sound great for some things, but it can really ruin a mix in some styles of music. The low mids on this bass can be unruly. The sound is very modern, and punchy. Once again, not a bad thing, but with only one pickup, and a fairly "meh" EQ, you will find tonal versatility is something this beast of a bass lacks. It has a sort of Maverick "my way, or the highway" feel in it's sound. You will love this bass if you want the sound it makes, as it has plenty of that sound. however, if you are looking for something with more of range, or simply are looking for a single bass rig, you may find that this basses range is a tad to myopic for your needs.

FLEA FUNK FOUND HERE

By squishy2000

from San Benito, TX

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass sounds more like flea than his signature model from modulus. This is the ultimate slap machine and finger funk bass. No other bass will give you that classic percussive thunk a thunk sound that you fell in love with on chili pepper cds. It also sounds good for most other styles of music. Audience members have told me that this bass sounds clearer and punchier through our pa than any other of the 13 basses I have gigged with in the past 12 years. It really cuts through the sound to put the bass up front where it belongs. Its also built like a tank, so you don't have to worry about it dying in the middle of a gig. I stopped carrying a backup after I bought this bass. My only regret is not buying one sooner.

A Reliable, Quality Instrument Everytime

By BA55PLAY3R

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I started out with a Musicman Stingray, decided that more tone shaping would be nice so went to a jazz, came back to the Stingray, tried a P-bass Deluxe, then went back to the Stingray. It's a one trick pony but that one trick can fit 90% of your playing situations. Quiet, solid, high output, good scooping (your pretty much stuck with one tone with some basic mild EQ'ing), and sustains forever. You could buy one off ebay and rest assured that it will play like all the others (barring someone dropping it off a stage). I recommend no other instrument with full confidence.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I must say I have been a Fender man for a long time. When I got the Sting Ray my quest for the perfect sounding and looking Bass has ended w/This Machine.I call it a machine because it's a workhorse. The sound is great,I love the 3 band eq,especially the Bass Knob.Just turning it a little pass the halfway mark and you notice a difference.I own a Marcus Miller Jazz a Geddy Lee and a Jaco fretless, all are good Basses. This Sting ray will be my main Bass for all my gigs.

Absolute Jem of a Bass!!

By soxfan2006

from Acton

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Most people associate this bass with slap, tapping funk music. Where this bass does excel in that genre, it also cranks as a rock bass. With a simple turn of the tone knob, it can produce earth shattering low tones. This bass rocks going through my Ampeg stack, but it also sounds great through my little crate practice amp. I own a sweet Music Man Stingray, and a American Jazz bass. I will never need to purchase another bass as long as I play. I would recommend this bass to anyone.

Changed my life.

By Rusty

from New Orleans

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is simply the best. I played over 20 different basses before I chose this one. It is the perfect marriage of form and function. It is fast and smooth and its lows are the deepest I have heard from an unmodified bass. It is built to last, I am certain it will be rocking long after I am dead. A good instrument motivates you to play better. A great instrument taunts you, until you are able to absolutely own it. This thing will taunt you.
