This is an amazing guitar. Very well built, very nice detailing on the headstock and body of the guitar. This thing is solid as a rock, and unfortunately just as heavy. That is my only complaint: This thing is heavy, so heavy in fact that I actually broke a set of strap-locks a few months ago. When I first picked it up in the store I thought for sure this thing must've been tied down or something. Anyway, this guitar is great for jazz playing, rock, grunge, metal, blues....anything. The third/middle pickup makes it much more versitile than your average Les Paul, and it sounds very much like a strat. I can literally play anything with this guitar, Hendrix to Clapton to SRV, to Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam - and everything in between. Out of all my guitars, this gets played the most - by far! Sounds great through Fenders or Marshalls, etc., whichever you prefer. Great for gigging, but not recommended unless you happen to have a VERY comfortable strap (once again, just because of the weight). This guitar is well worth the money. A few weeks ago I go wandering into the local guitar shop, and I see the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul model, so I figure I'd try it out. Now get this, the Zakk Wylde model is $100 more than the Black Beauty, and the Black Beauty blows it out of the water. Black Beauty has a much warmer tone and it actually feels like a guitar in your hands. Save yourself $100 and get this, you will NOT regret it. This is, in my opinion, the best Epiphone you can get that's under $1000. GET IT!

I owned this guitar less time than any other. When it arrived, I was excited. It was beautiful, to look at. Plugged it in, played a little, wow... this sounds great. End of positive comments. The third, or middle pickup in my opinion is this guitar's weak spot. It is in the way. No matter how long I played it, or in any comfortable "picking hand" position, it felt like trying to put the left shoe on the right foot...very awkward. Also, even after taking it to two well respected luthiers, I could not get the strings close enough to the fingerboard - so much so that playing anything in the middle of the neck made it go sharp. The glossy finish on the back of the neck , while nice to look at was kind of tacky, or sticky. Also- it weighs a TON. I really wanted to like this guitar, as it was beautiful. I guess if I just wanted something pretty to hang on the wall, this would be it, but it played like a toy

rockin axe for price

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar since 2003, so I can actually give you a full review! some say it is heavey, but think about it... if it's this heavy it must be well built and have more sustain right? the answer is yes, it has a very distinct sound (a bit bassy), verry strong. plays very well and feels great in your hands. I only have 2 things to complain about... one, sometimes it's almost to much bass, you can't get a crunchy treble out of it, and the switch seams to lack life ( i had to have it replaced within the first year and is giving me trouble again). all in all it really is a GREAT guitar though!!!! you will not be upstaged by any other guitar, as it will flat over power any stock guitar within $1k of it!!! not to mention it just looks rockin. I would highly recomend one to anyone be it country soft rock or grinding in your face kickin butt metal!!! you won't be dissapointed.

Life With The Black Beauty

By Scratch

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I would like to post a quick follow up regarding this guitar. Now that I have lived with it, and played every day: The more I have played it, the more impressed I am. I don't like to gush about it, but..it sounds so nice, and is so easy to play...it has unlocked my creativity like never before! I have come up with several songs (music only) that I really love. Not saying thay will ever be published or anything: it is just great fun. No problems with the hardware or anything has happened. It holds its tune beautifully, even when I am slamming the strings hard. Here it is folks! This is a great guitar for the money--I could not be happier. Guess I want other musicians to give it a shot. I can barely wait to play it every day.

Great guitar.

By Khawaja Jodat

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I have this guitar since 2005 and it is working just great. It has a very nice tone, the pickups are of high quality which helps you to get any sound from it. Though the bridge pickup lacks some treble but it is still very warm and bright with right amount of power to handle some nasty solo work. The bridge pickup really sings out at moderate to high gain setting on the amp. The features on this guitar are standard for Les Paul guitar. I only wish that it would might have a coil tap switch for splitting the humbucking pickups to single coil. It surely would be a plus point for this guitar if this minor modification is being done to further broaden the tonal range of this specfic guitar. The finish is great & I have not found any major flaw in it. The head stock is the most beautiful part of this guitar. The upper nut is rather made with special material because I never had a string entrapping problem during string bends. The gold hardware is also very good and durable. The bridge is nice but I did not like its sharp edge saddles as these pinches the palm and seems somewhat uncomfortable. The volume & tone knobs/controls are very smooth no scratchy noise whatsoever. The input jack is very solid without any loose jack grip. The fret board is very nicely & perfectly build with very smooth and highly polished frets. The string action is very comfortable without any string buzzes. I wish the finger board inlays would have a little better quality as far appearence is concerned. The inotation is just perfect& the string sustain is excellent. The pickups sound really have a growling tone with lot of sweet tones because of Alnico magnets being employed in them. The wires sheilding is brillant as I never noticed any hiss whatsoever. The black finish is very tough and durable. The strap buttons are very secure and I never had a fear for the guitar to fell down. The weight of this guitar is very reasonable, I mean to say that it is not too light and its my belief that heavy guitars really & always sound great with more warmth & sustain. The body binding is flawless. The truss rod is very easy to adjust and it works very evenly through the neck profile. Toggle switch also works normal. In the end I must say that if you have a limited budget and you want a Les Paul version type guitar then there is no better choice than this one. Take my words and you won't be disappointed. Thanks & regards.

Black Beauty

By the81charge

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

If you're looking for a top shop guitar, this is it! The triple humbuckers really give this guitar a rich and chunky sound. Flipping from the rhythm to lead the guitar sings. Adding effects (distortion, delay, ect.) only enhances the rich sound that this guitar produces when clean. Aesthetically, the tuners and body of the guitar are very pleasing. The only negative comments I have is that after five months of owning the guitar the rhythm/lead switch malfunctioned. I opened the guitar up to see that there was a loose wire. Fortunately, I was able to reheat the solder up and reattach the loose wire to the switch. Being that I don't really travel much with this guitar I was a little frustrated by this one flaw, which might be a one in ten-thousand chance of recurring. The other minus would be that after extended periods of playing the guitar I noticed the guitar became a little heavy. Overall, after recording a few demos I have nothing but good things to say about the deep rich tone produced by this guitar.

5 Star Guitar

By Sean

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

this guitar came in to my guitar center one day and i just had to have it, it was a bargin at 450 because it was used, but it did need some TLC. I absolutely love this guitar, its been my go-to guitar since the day i got it. i own a strat and two other les pauls (standard and a custom with p-90's) and this guitar outshines them all! the tone is increadble, i can get everything from George Gershwin to Dethklok to Led Zeppelin. the guitar is visually stunning... my only problm was that it did not come with the Gold Modern machine heads as pictured, i thought they added a nice 1950's vintage look to the guitar. i would reccomend this guitar to anyone who is looking to upgrade to a high-end, reasonibly priced guitar.

Great, real Les Paul

By John

from Europe

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I bought it 9 months ago. I had to adjust the neck throught the truss rod and additionally I got a really great action, so I didn't have to touch the bridge at all. Frets were great, no problem. This axe has a solid not weight relieved, or chambered mahogany body and I must say, this beast can roar and growl with endless sustain. The pickups have quite high output, I think higher than PAFs, or other vintage Gibson product and can get into insane ovcerdrive with certain amp settings but can be handled, easily. Pots are not CTS, but work OK. The toggle switch can give trouble, and better be ready, probably you have to change it quite soon! After there is no problem with it. Cosmetically, the guitar is great. I could find only some quality issues on the binding (it was not even at two places). Excellent finish, beautiful and shinning everywhere. The gold color starts showing "road worn" signs very soon (on metal hardware) but it is nothing new with Gibson products - I mean, totally normal. Do not forget - it is NOT a Gibson! It does not sound like a Gibson! Gibson guitars have higher quality electronics and hardware and it makes difference. But it is still an awsome guitar with beautiful and versatile sound. On the other hand ... if you go after the real Les Paul sound, than buy this axe, change the hardware and the electronics and you will have a real, full solid mahogany body Les Paul put out by Gibson and sounds like the big guys. The equivalent Gibson products starts at 3.5K and up as for the price, and only can be found among custom made guitars, VOSs, reissues and things like this. They are not in normal production anymore. So, if you are up for a great Les Paul carries the name of Les Paul by right with nice quiality and great tone with excellent playability on a very good price - go ahead and buy it. It is a no brainer!

Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty Review

By rockon4life

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

This is the best guitar i have ever played, the sound quality is amazing and just look at it. It is beautiful. the variation of sound between pickups is incredible, is has a real good crunch for rock and a soft vibe for blues also. Yes it could be a little more less expensive but im telling you, you pay for quality and i would pay even more for this guitar. Im not going to say I am bias for this guitar just because it is a Les Paul, it really is an awsome guitar. If you want a really good playing guitar and a really good looking guitar this is the one for you.

I'm very stoked about my Black Beauty!

By Scratch

from San Clemente

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

First off, let me say I love this (Epiphone Les Paul Custom Black Beauty). It was perfect right out of the box, when I tuned it, it held the notes dead center. Then I plugged it it to my RP350 effects pedal: I was instantly taken to a musical space that felt like nirvana! I played it for several hours, until my figertips gave out! The fit, finish, and action on my Black Beauty was perfect, right from the factory, although I know this is not always the case: I own over 50 guitars! Please do yourself a favor: if you want to find the sound you really want in your music, buy this guitar! P.S. Have become quite a fan of Epiphone Guitars...

Not too bad for price

By Lespaul_bb57

from Ridgeland, MS

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I bought the LP BB57' about 4 years ago. I used it for small shows and parties etc. The tone is great and the guitar itself produces great sound. Only thing is the humbuckers and input jack on bottom. I am seeing/hearing signs of wear and tear. The pickups are starting to go bad and picks up alot of feedback switching from pickup to pickup. The guitar has not been put through too much either. All in all besides the pickups it is a great sounding guitar for the price and has a smooth playing action. Put on some GHS boomers and let er' roll. Great for my blues, bluegrass, and southern rock style. Measures up to many gibsons or guitars in its price/style range.

Great guitar

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I have a Epi 60's tribute that is awesome. I bought this guitar because I wanted something with vibrato/tremolo (plan to add a Bigsby). I tried a Fender Strat, PRS and a Gretsch. All nice but nothing had the LP tone/sound and feel. Realized that what I really wanted was an LP with a vibrato. Anyway, ended up getting this. At first, wasn't sure about the "tuxedo" look. Once I laid eyes and hands on it that changed. It is a beautiful guitar. Fit, finish, asthetics are superb. Feels exactly like my 60's trib. I was also worried about the pickups. The 60's trib has Gibson USA 57's. This has Epi Alnico classics. The Epi website states that these are modeled after the Gibson 57's. When I plug it in my amp, can't tell the difference. Sounds great. I am very happy with this. Also had great service. I bought it through my local GC store. They did not have it in stock but it shipped from the warehouse and arrived in perfect condition.

Great Tone but heavy..

By K.K.

from Boston, MA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

The action on this guitar is great, the fret spacing is wonderful as well, so you get a real comfortable feel when handling this baby. The three humbuckers provide you with as much power as you need and for the money its a great guitar to pick up. My only problem with it is its weight. Once you've got this strapped on and your playing give it a good 15 to 20 minutes and you'll start aching and opting to sit instead standing around... this beast is just a tad bit on the heavy side so beware. But if your not into gigging often and just wanna jam around the house or record a few tracks in the studio the pristine sound from the highs to the lows is sure to give you a kick, especially for the money.

The Ears Say It All

By Jeff

from Texas

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I have never heard a guitar that sounded this good, especially in the price range. I had a Gibson LP and quite frankly, this one kicks its tail. It has so much output that my amp nearly blew me away when I turned it on the first time. These are, dollar for dollar, the best guitars on the market. Don't let the name at the headstock discourage you. This is a Les Paul that Les would be proud of.

Best Guitar EVER!!!

By Cory Dodd

from Mt. Airy GA

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I got this thing in the mail about 3 weeks ago. I was worried about the rigours of mail transport, but the guitar was totally undamaged. This is the best guitar ever! Perfect for that old school rock n' roll like Guns N' Roses, ACDC, ect. I don't do a lot of country, but the little that I do play, this guitar has the perfect tone. I have played Gibsons that were not even close to this guitar. The price is insane, but the sound is amazing. Not reccomended for beginners, just proffesionals. Many people say the middle pickup gets in the way, but I have never had this problem. I have always wanted this guitar, and now I do and danm does it make me happy!!!

Drummer's new toy

By ducEMan

from New Port Richey, FL

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I've been playing drums since I was a young boy and started playing guitar as an outlet during late night music cravings. I got this guitar for Christmas after having an acoustic for the last 10 years. I'll tell you what; for not being able to afford a Gibson Les Paul, this Epiphone is right up there with the real thing!! I love this guitar, the sound, the features, the play-ability, and intonation are great. Some say it's a little on the heavy side but they probably just need to play or practice more to get used to it. ( Try lugging around a whole drum set to see what heavy REALLY is!! ) I highly recommend this beautiful piece of craftsmanship for any level of musician. I also recommend getting a nice hard case, like an SKB or flight case to protect your investment for years to come.

Wonderful guitar

By SamsDaddy

from CO

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 Electric Guitar:

I purchased this Black Beauty about 6 months ago as my guitar to get back into playing after about 10 years away. I was initially drawn to it's looks, which are exquisite. This things plays really nicely and has great tone for classic rock, blues, etc. The addition of the middle pickup can really help you get more of a strat-like tone if you are after that. But then kick it to the neck pickup and you get really nice deep humbucker tones for even the heaviest stuff. My only real complaint about this is that it is not great to play sitting down as it sits a little awkward on your leg.
