Awesome guitar!

By TREVOR MORSON

from Aurora, IL

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

My Bumblebee (yellow & black striped) arrived in perfect condition and the only thing not quite correct, was that the Floyd Rose Tremelo was not perfectly straight/parallel with the body making the D-Tuna sit quite close to the body, by a smidge. That said.. this is an easy fix!! The tremolo arm is almost too loose once fitted in, sure.. you can tighten it but tough to get that tight versus loose fitting (on the edge) like you get on the EVH Wolfgang.. no problem though, I can adjust this myself correctly. The body is truly beautiful, a very professional high gloss and Fender actually use tape for the stripes on these. I was surprised it was so light, My Wolfgang is also a basswood body but this is just short of 8lbs and I am used to my guitars being between 10 to 14lb in weight. The tuners and frets are set up perfectly.. the frets specially on this are SUPERB!! The neck is a lighter maple finish, is beautiful and thinner than the EVH Wolfgang ?but a tad wider which is very nice, lots of room for shreddin?. It was tuned to perfection, the OEM strings are not to my liking, but that?s just me, I use the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings, 9 gauge and I am very used to those now.. On plugging it in, I played a kind of EVH jam, (the extended ?Eruption?) ..the harmonics ring out forever on this and the pickup is bright an beefy too. I then played some quiet Van Halen songs such as ?316? and Eddie?s version of ?Won?t Get Fooled Again? intro.. perfect, ?only the Bournes volume knob takes a little getting used to, no big deal though, all guitars take getting used to. I played ?Beautiful Girls?, ?Mean Street?, ? Little Guitars? and? Panama? on it, once again the tap harmonics and the pinch harmonics rang out forever!! .. I then tested the D-Tuna and it was set to perfection.. I played Unchained? and ?5150?, it has the brown sound perfectly for these. Palm muting is a breeze also. I then wanted to test other band?s songs on it, I played Hendrix?s ?Voodoo Chile?, Aerosmith?s ?Sweet Emotion? Ozzie?s ?Crazy Train? Billy Idol?s ?Rebel Yell? and finally played an oldie.. ?Alright Now? (by Free) and this guitar passed the test on all front?s. .. Obviously, as is the case with all new guitars, it needs time to be worn in and I have no doubt it will play even better after just a month with my band. I own an exact replica Red/White/Black ?Frankenstrat? which will always be my number 1 guitar, I have two other ?Franky?s? (One of those used to be my number 2 guitar), I have the EVH Vintage Blonde Wolfgang (my new number 2 guitar), and then two other (one Black & White striped) Franky?s that I use as spares or back up. Since the EVH Wolfgang ?WAS? my number 2 guitar, it may have to be relegated to number 3 as I see this EVH striped series Bumblebee being my NEW number 2 guitar for my gigs. Only thing I did, was upgrade the OEM block on the Floyd Rose to the FU-Tone Big Brass block and I am extremely happy (like I am not already). The EVH striped series are well worth the money for sure.. very cheap for what they are truly capable of. I am very pleased, more than pleased actually!!!!! EXCELLENT!!!!!! The first ones released had no bolt through neck for the locking nut, and now they are? The pickup is a Wolfgang pickup according to specs, but. my bet is that it is wound differently, because it has a better high end on it, and some have reported it is hotter than a Wolfgang?.. but given there is no tone control and no extra pickup, that could be the reason too. Thanks! (Trev Morson).

Backordered a LONG time but........

By Leslie Mihalik

from Campton HIlls, IL

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I waiting over 3 months for my Yellow/Black Striped Series to arrive. I have an original Art Series in the traditional Black/White/Red and thought that this one was priced in a way that it would be cool to own. I had a credit award that I received from a previous promotion that came in handy along with a a discount from one of the GC promotions. This made buying the guitar very affordable and fortunately I wasn't in a rush to receive it. The guitar finally arrived packed very well in a cardboard box direct from Fender. GC will then overpack it in a giant box cushioned with paper to assure it arrives with minimal chance for damage. I have purchased many guitars and cases previously and this is very consistent with how they have shipped in the past. Everyone will always post a review here and tell you about how great their purchase was regardless of the price or quality of the guitar. The point is, you have to take into consideration price point and/or country of origin when evaluating. A 200.00 guitar may not meet that standards of a person who normally buys a 2000.00 Custom Shop but it may very well meet the standards of the person who can only afford 200 bucks. In reality there is so much that goes into a favorable experience; the most of which is the style of music played AND importantly the connection one makes with their particular talent and the instrument. If you like Jazz, you probably won't prefer the Striped Series nor would you buy a graphical guitar like this one for that purpose. I would, but I digress. Honestly. I unpacked the guitar, gave it a few minutes to tune and intonate and plugged her right into a cranked small Fender Blues Jr. with a Hardwire Metal pedal, Line 6 DL4 delay and a Boss noise gate. To me, the best test for this guitar was to play the opening riff to "Unchained" and see if it released the mojo. I don't profess to be a high quality guitar player nor do I play in a band. I do know a thing or two about Strat's and have a good sense on how they are built. Sound wise, I was impressed. I didn't even have a Phase 90 to play this with but I have to say that it sounded great to my ears. The single EVH humbucker has a full crisp sound. Fit and finish was excellent. If you like unfinished necks, then you're in luck. If you don't like them because they will get dirty looking after the first time you play, then you may want to either avoid it or seal the fret board prior to playing. I personally like an unfinished or preferably oil finished neck. I think that I will treat this one to a coat tung oil or any other type of finish oil that is light but won't cause your hands to stick. The paint finish was great. No noticeable tape lines from the graphics and a nice factory gloss finish. I like that this one has an adjustable truss rod at the base of the neck making neck adjustments much easier than an art series. Interestingly, there is no printed indication of the country of origin. Anywhere, at least visible that I could see. Nice Chrome Floyd with a EVH D-Tuna, like it should have. The evidence of good construction is the fitness of the neck in the neck pocket and this one was perfect. Nice and even with a nice tight fit. Neck plate as an imprinted EVH which is a nice touch but can be expected when you are north of 800 bucks for an imported guitar. (even if its only 80 miles south of San Diego) I have not opened up the electronics cavity yet to inspect the quality of the connections. But based on the relative quietness of the guitar, I'd say that the electronics are done well. One single Master Volume, so there's no much that can get messed up. Pickup to Volume Pot to output jack. No tone knob, just the way Eddie liked it. I wish that GC would offer a service where if you purchased a case with a guitar that doesn't have one provided with the purchase, that they could open the box and put the guitar into the new case and ship together. I prefer my guitars to be shipped in a hard shell case and if you are going to buy a case at the same time, it would be nice to get the guitar put in there. But if you don't need or want a case, the factory + GC packing is excellent. I like the guitar and felt it to be an excellent value at the discounted price I paid (before my credit) If these are made on a limited basis, I believe that they will be collectible in time. Eddie seems to move on to different manufactures after a few years. But I wouldn't buy one for the collectibility. I'd buy it because it sounds great and looks cool. I just bought a Kramer Vintage Pacer Tiger, which is a similar layout and vibe and it sounds horrible compared to the EVH. (admittedly the Kramer Tiger was 300 less.) The only issue with playing someone else's guitar (EVH), is the expectation that comes along with it if you are going to play this on stage. Otherwise, like me, it will stay in the home studio where I will be perfectly happy to pick it up and play whenever the mood strikes for some hair metal. I'm very happy with my purchase and I have over 70 guitars. It's a keeper.

EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar

By AL

from Apex, NC

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

First hands on.....really light! Basswood body. Never had one before in basswood....noticeably lighter than my other strats (have three strats and a les paul)! Besides that I honestly don't know what to say. I could probably never tell the difference between basswood, alder and ash as far as sound goes. I'll leave that up to the tonal experts. Speaking of sound, one trick pony.....one powerful, screaming, one trick pony that does that one trick really well !To be expected with a single powerful humbucker and a single volume knob labelled "tone" - we know that story! False harmonics are hard to miss. Feedback galore. Just what I wanted in this guitar ! Nice neck ! Strange.....seems to have no finish at all ike it is sanded smooth. I do like it though! I have no problem shredding on it whatsoever ! Negatives on the neck...ok, I get it, there is no finish....but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have filed the ends of the frets ! What the heck.....I could use this thing as a weapon ! Little bits of sharp metal protruding from the sides up and down the neck. An easy fix with a file, but c'mon guys...what, four screws and you are done messing around with the neck ! EVH labelled Floyd Rose ! When I was asking about getting a Floyd Rose fitted to one of my strats, a very good Raleigh area luthier, who has been doing outsourcing working for Fender for 30 years, told me .."if you want a Floyd Rose, buy a guitar that already has one. Otherwise you are asking for a lot of work (money) and potential problems". Alrighty then.....bummer actually....bought a Mexi HSS just for that purpose....hacking it up.....so off it went in a trade and I welcomed a Black American HSS strat to the family. So there went my quest for a Floyd Rose fitted Strat for the time being. Anyway, I am getting off track here. Drop D-Tuner (D-Tuna they call it) - the little thingy on the EVH Floyd Rose that drops the E string down to D and back with a push/pull of the knob works great... tiny bit off pure D, not even noticeable when you are playing, but of course I had to check it with a tuner...Easily corrected with the micro-adjustment knob. I like it ! Drop D tuning takes seconds! Disappointments: Non-floating Floyd Rose - dive bombs only....no err..up bombs...actually, that would be a rocket....if it were going up I mean.....right? Bombs come down, Rockets go up..... Onward.....I like it ! A lot actually ! Wasn't crazy about the Wolfgang. I guess it wasn't Strat enough for me but I thought they sounded nice (again, for a one trick pony) and besides that it looked strange. So when this thing came out , it definitely interested me. Glad I took the plunge ! Wish I could give it 4.5 stars but it looks like its 4 or 5. No in betweens but for those that actually read this review, I do give it a solid 4.5 !

EVH Striped Series

By Garrick Cvitkovich

from Roscommon Michigan

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

I received my red with black striped Evh after waiting for 2 days following my order. The guitar was in great shape after shipping from the Fairfax Va. store to Michigan. I would have preferred a hard case with the guitar, but the setup was great. The finish was glistening without any blemishes. In addition to looking super cool, the guitar sounds great. With the volume dialed back, it has a clear and crisp sound. With the gain and volume up, the sound is killer. The lows are beefy and clear, while the harmonics and sustain are exceptional. The tremolo is fine, but there is no pulling up on it, unless you want to dig in to that glossy paint with the D-Tuna. Overall, I am very impressed with the guitar. I knew it looked good, but the playability and sound are great,

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

This is a great sounding and playing instrument. I own 30+ brands of guitars and this is one of my favorites. Using the volume/tone knob it cleans up great. Very easy to the touch to get a great sound for someone is does not have the hands for sound. I own all the striped series and every once in a while you will run into one that the frets are sharp on the ends but that is easily fixed. And like all guitars it might need a setup after shipping. If you can get over it being a signature guitar, it is a must own. If you can't, buy one and get it painted, that is what I am doing with this one. Don't ever pass on any guitar that sounds good because it is not a certain brand or it is so & so's guitar. All your doing is being a gearsnob.

Comments about EVH Striped Series Electric Guitar:

This is something I have wanted since I was maybe 15 and now I have one.I bought the red, white, and black because of course it's the most popular paint job. When I first played it, it wasn't exactly set up right. The floyd rose was at a slight angle so I adjusted it to where it was flat with the body. After a few adjustments tuning it,then it was time to test it. This thing has sustain and harmonics for DAYS!! This is the type of guitar that just makes you WANT to play more and more. The tapping is just effortless and the unfinished neck is very smooth along with the jumbo frets. Even though it has only one pickup,it cleans up very nicely when you roll the volume back on it,and when you crank it,depending on your amp settings,it's like trying to tame a wild bucking horse.."whoa trigger"..... I would give it a 4.5 but I can't so I give it a 4 but for those that read the review,I do give it a solid 4.5.I didn't give it a 5 because it wasn't set up right and out of tune but other than that, this is just a flat out shredding machine!!

I bought this guitar for a show last month and couldn't be happier with the guitar. Reminds me a lot of the Kramer guitars from the 80's. Great sounding guitar especially for leads and plays fantastic. The "Drop-D Tuna" was a nice touch.
