Comments about Carl Martin Hot Drive 'N Boost mk 3 Pedal:
I am working on a backup rig in the event my amp were to fail or simply a way to travel light with just my pedal board. I bought the Carl Martin Rock Bug a few months ago and I was truly amazed that it did sound like a high end hand wired tube amp with really similar tube breakup sound plus it has an XLR out. You can pull off a Jon Meyer or Clapton type of sound with the just the Rock Bug. However, I needed a little more sustain and more distortion to get the Satriani and Hendrix type of tone so I got the Hot Drive N Boost Mk3. The price of the Hot Drive N Boost Mk3's high quality and metal construction that is hand made in Denmark is an absolute bargain and a great bang for your buck. The Hot Drive N Boost Mk3 is great if you are primarily a rhythm player with some light lead guitar work in your sets. It will give you the classic rock Tom Petty, Rolling Stones and even hard rock rhythm tone. Yes they were not kidding about the boost feature on this pedal. Just engage the boost button and you will hear and feel that boost that is up to 20 or 22 decibels. I play single coil a G&L Legacy and an Asat Special and did not get the sustain when playing lead as I am used to with my Mesa Boogie or my Trainwreck clone. That is my only gripe and again tone is subjective so everyone will have a different opinion but this is just my experience and really my only critique. I emailed Carl Martin to ask about this and they responded in less than 24 hours with a few ideas for tweaking the settings as well as a few alternative boxes, the Plexitone or Greg Howe Lick Box. I did try their suggested settings and noticed an improvement but I needed more sustain. After doing some research I decided to exchange the Hot Drive N Boost for their Plexitone.
