Comments about Blackstar Artist Series 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

After months of researching amps to add my collection I decided on the Backstar 15. This is a top notch amp that is both clean and mildly distorted. Good reverb and some 60s British qualities. I haven't turned on my Fender since this arrived. Great addition.

Comments about Blackstar Artist Series 15W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been playing guitar for over 40 years and owned Fenders, Vox's, and Marshall's. I needed a flexible low wattage guitar combo, suitable for home recording and also live performances. I first Purchased a Fender Bassbreaker 15, thinking that the Fender / Marshall tones would meet my requirements, but unfortunately it didn't, tonally, or feature wise and the flashing standby recording light drove me crazy, so I returned it to GC after only a few weeks.

I then turned my attention to the Blackstar Artist 15, and even though this was $150 more, it was well worth the extra cost. I've only had the amp for a couple of weeks, but the initial flexibility and tones are superior to the Fender. Both amps have the same Vintage type speaker and a digital reverb, but the Blackstar out guns the Fender on both counts.

The Artist's channel 1 has a very 50's Vox tone to it and would work well with a booster. This channel stays clean nearly all the way and would be great for Jazz and warm cleans. Channel 2 is where things hot up. The range of vintage tones you can get from this channel are ideal for studio use. The ISF gives it more flexibilty Giving you Fender and Marshall type tones.

This Artist is a little bigger than the Bassbreaker, but is still light in weight. To be honest, the Artist is a little loud for home use, it has a really big sound! But it isn't a problem when recording, the direct line output has speaker emulation and works with the master volume turned down.

I would recommend checking this amp out. it does all the basics really well, which is a sign of a good amp. Inclusion of a spring reverb would have been nice, but the digital one is good and creates ambiance. The cons for me were that channel 2 on the first amp I purchased didn't work, I think it was a faulty preamp tube, but Guitar Center preferred to replace the amp. For the record, I'm a big Fender amp fan, they are some of my favorite amps, but I think the the Bassbreaker range may be a bad idea.
