These handy, easy to store clamps are well sized for heavy-duty music stands, making them well suited to eliminate the need for individual player mike stands in orchestral and big band recording setups. They are ideal for small microphones such as the Shure SM98, but can handle larger mikes like the SM81 with some loss of aim-ability. These clamps do not substitute for mikes clamped on horn bells, but if players are directed to maintain microphone location awareness, the MY550 offers a good solution for stage clutter.
I use this little trick with a piece of velcro to hold the Bose remote control (greatest sound system ever made)on the center mic stand on stage. It is sturdy, easy to install and you could use it for what it was intended and actually put a mic on it for an instrument. Well worth the money and well built.
My "area" on stage was getting pretty crowded with two mic stands, a music stand and my steel guitar. The second mic stand was to play my accordion through. I had a hard time setting the two mic stands up close enough together to play and sing at the same time. This little jewel sovled that problem. It clamps right on to my singing mic stand and it holds the mic for my accordion at just the right place. The price was right too, I couldn't make one myself for that price.
