As reviewed by Chad Parsons on 5/15/2012

Just assembled my desk and am extremely pleased with it. Since there are virtually no reviews of this product online, I figured it was worth giving a good rundown. I got the black version. The black looks fine, smooth with a not too glossy coat. Does attract fingerprints like crazy. 1) Assembly isn't that bad. There aren't that many pieces and I did most of it by myself. There are going to be a couple times that having another person is nearly required, but this can be done solo by most anyone. The one caveat is to be sure you have an electric drill. If you don't have it to further drill out the pre-made holes for screws, those screws aren't going in. Seriously. For particle board it's TOUGH. Other than, piece of cake. All the holes properly aligned and I was never having to beat and shake to get things to match up. Final project is quite sturdy and the casters work well even on carpet. 2) Size is great. I have an M-Audio ProjectMix and it can handle this with just a tad bit of overhang (once mic cables are plugged in). Doesn't create any shaking on the DAW at all, still completely stable. Any bigger DAW and you're outta luck, though. I have KRK Rockit 5's on the top shelf along with a 23" monitor and there's a good 5" on either side of the screen. I put the monitor on an ergo arm and I recommend doing this, it's just nicer. Not required at all as the top shelf isn't as high up as I thought it was going to be. A monitor on its normal stand would be at a fine height (I'm 6'0" if you're wondering). 3) Cable management is so nice. A tiny slot for cables running to the desktop like computer power and display cords. Rack gear cables drop down further back. There are plenty of backings and supports to keep everything apart (still gonna be a jungle behind there but your legs will never know it). Also plenty of room beneath the desk for further storage if you can find some thin shelves. I thought maybe an additional set of racks could go below here but that's not happening. I also ordered the keyboard tray but it's backordered and I believe I'll be canceling that. There'd be no room underneath. Overall, totally solid. I looked at a lot of other furniture options and chose this one because I couldn't justify paying a lot for furniture as bland and simple as Raxxess. If you're going to have more than 8 pieces of rack gear (doubt I ever do) then yes, you'll obviously need something larger to accomodate it. But for something in between Raxxess and Studio RTA (think that's what it's called), I would look into this desk. Shipping was quick, too!
