I recently bought the LS10 from guuitar center and the first time we used it, it was fine. Really good quality. Every time since then, it has a one second sound drop-out every 62 seconds, rendering all our valuable recordings worthless. I've been dealing with Olympus on this and they don't have any idea why its doing that. After talking with their tech support, and reformatting it a couple of times, it now plays one second of an unrelated song every 62 seconds, during the chosen song. So now I have to send it in for repair. I'll update this when they send it back to me to let others know if they have fixed it.
I had bought 2 other olympus dictation pocket machines augment my memory. Of course , forgot what i had got them for and just played with them. I was amazed at the audio quality of both machines and stopped a GC and saw the ls10 on the shelf. Wow, awsome biuld quality (honestly , it's the equivalent of a 1000$ watch. Excellent feel in your hand and essential controls are the easiest to understand. Much easier than setting up a digital watch. No compromise sound quality, only one glitch, very low earphone output (mine at least). I plug it into some comp speakers instead and it's output is perfect (maybe by design) .
Excellent digital recorder, long battery life. Easy transfer to computer for editing. Wind screens come in handy for outdoor recording. I added an 8 gig SD card, seems like you can record forever at the highest quality. Comes with a nice case. You can record at 24 bit if desired. Also, records mp3 at different bit rates, as well as WMA. I would highly recommend this over other recorders, I looked at them all, more expensive, less expensive, this one will do it all at a reasonable price.
I'm really happy with the Olumpus LS-10. This is my first portable digital recorder like this so I can only speak as newb. However, I felt like the construction of the LS-10 was better then some of the other brands when checking them out at Guitar Center. It had some weight and didn't feel or look like cheap plastic. I plan on using it for recording band practice, throwing down ideas before they are lost waiting for the computer to boot up, and location recording for videography. So far I've been extremely impressed with sound quality of the built in mic, battery life and extreme ease of use. Menus are easy to navigate and set up is a breeze. I really didn't need the manual to use the device. It came with all the excessories I need. The case is good, but you will not be able to use the device when in the case. Tripod mont is built in which is nice. Screen displayes all info in a quick easy view. Setting record level is extremely easy via the dedicated dial. It's easy to tell at a distance if it's recording or paused by the record button which is surrounded by a light. Also, there is a large dedicated peak light to let you know if your levels are peaking. File transfer to computer was fast, about 3 minutes for 3.6 hour 256 MP3 file. Obviously this would be longer depending on if you record to wave format. Bottom line, does everything I need extremely well. The device performs well and seems well thought out.
NICE!!! Always comes to mind when using my LS-10. I bring it to each and every violin lesson. The record quality has extremely large dynamic range. On playback, you'll be hard pressed to hear any background noise! It's easy to use and it can be had for a bargain, as the slightly improved LS-11 is soon to be released. This little electronic wonder is for keeps!
In 2008, I got the LS-10 as a surprise Holiday present. 1st playback was clearer that some CDs I made with a dedicated CD burner at 1-1 speeds using high end mikes! I find it's concert or outside capabilities checking 5 stars everytime. At 165 grams that a lot of sweat saved. Concert, WAV setting, no peaks, hang or place on performance area. Start. At concerts the bold orange light is great deterrent to many unwanted situations.I monitor my audiences, usually small and 95 % fans or friends. A bright orange light glows when operating! Leave and stop only when your concert is over, absolute minimum battery worries, huge time limit on on recording. Zero drop outs as yet. Storage is huge. One small drawback could be provision of a larger, more elements proof case. Still a great tool. I'll be very surprised if the LS-10 will be electronically upgraded anytime soon.
I use this device to record EVERYTHING. It's such a handy tool. Great for jamming and never losing ideas. I have recorded many shows experimenting with different angles and placements of the recorder and it works great no matter what you do. The on board speakers are kind of weak but it's easy to plug into anything. Great little recorder for the cash.
I received the Olympus for Mother's Day. I LOVE IT. I am so technologically (and spelling) challenged that I have been using the old cassette voice recorder. I was relunctent to get one of these types or recorders because I thought it would be confusing to use, the Olympus is not confusing. I record on it and then play it back through the pa so that I can tweak the playing or singing. It is so easy, I was even able to make a CD using my computer! The stero sound was wonderful even though I recorded in my basement through my amp. I would recommend the Olympus for its ease of use and portablity. I can't say enough good things about it. I like being able to use a tripod during band practice to listen back and tweak some more.
