Another masterpiece from the master of custom snare drums.

Renowned drum visionary and drum tech Jeff Ocheltree has once again stormed the world with the Ocheltree Carbon Steel Snare Drum. Having worked with some of the greatest drummers in history - John Bonham, Billy Cobham, Steve Smith and Danny Carey - Jeff harnessed his multiple experiences to design this impressive drum. The carbon steel shell has carefully machined bearing edges and die-cast hoops that set this drum apart from any on the market today. Visually these drums are beautiful; sonically they are dazzling. The unique properties of the carbon steel create an incredibly versatile drum that's as as loud as you could hope for, with articulation that would inspire seasoned jazz veterans.

  • Unbelievable!

As reviewed by Justin on 10/25/2006

I was given the 6.5? Heavymetal snare as a gift and I am amazed. The sound is thick with plenty of crack, but still retains an incredible amount of articulation. This drum is quite versatile and works well in rock, metal, and funk, but brushes sound every bit as good. The workmanship is second to none. This is a gorgeous drum! The only downside is the weight of this drum- it is about 20 lbs!! I highly recommend this drum!

  • Excellent snare & great value

As reviewed by Snared4Life on 1/27/2010

Playing this snare is addictive! Lay into it and it Screams! Sounds like a cannon on steroids! At low volumes it is extremely sensitive, great for buzz rolls and ghost notes. I unveiled this snare at rehearsal last month and my band mates were blown away! No easy task as I have a sizeable arsenal of snares. This is currently one of my favorite snares. Great sound, visual appeal, versatility and all at a killer price! Try it, you'll Love it!

  • A serious snare for serious drummers!

As reviewed by darthtaz on 4/17/2007

In my opinion the best snare's ever made have been the original Slingerland and Ludwig Black Beauty's but John Ocheltree comes very close with this badboy. I was turned on to these after seeing Steve Smith play one at an MD Festival. I actually own a custom black beauty copy of one of these in addition to the 5.5 steel and let me tell you they are worth EVERY penny! This is not a hobby snare. You get what you put into it...heavy heads-warm tones, thin heads-loud penetrating power! Hit it hard it'll crack like a gunshot. Brush it and it'll give you a silky smooth touch. I was surprised to find it so cheap. Worth every penny and more! And the previous guy isn't kidding....these weigh almost as much as a bass drum!
