Even for an amateur DJ like myself, there's nothing worthwhile in this unit. It looks nice with a color scheme that matches a white iPod and it's cheap, but add in the cost of two iPods and you're looking at $600 if not more. If you want to DJ with iPods, there are cables which will allow them to plug into your mixer. But that still leaves you without pitch control and many other features that your average DJ will use. Numark's iDJ2 looks like it solves a lot of the problems of the iDJ. It only needs one iPod (with room for USB memory sticks or additional iPods to plug in the back) and has pitch control. It pulls songs off of the iPod and into it's onboard memory so that you can manipulate the pitch as well as cue multiple tracks from the iPod.

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

I bought this when i was in highschool to use for school dances, as a tool to play music from you and your friends ipods and transition smoothly, it's awesome. not good for much else. Since then I have moved on to bigger and better things but I still keep it just in case I'm at a gig and someone wants something that for whatever reason, I don't have but they do on their ipod, I can play it with that. The jog wheel do nothing but scroll through the ipod menus, the mic input is about as basic as it gets, headphone output works great, not very heavy at all, not too much extra lag other than what running through everything else does. I would say, If you're looking to use it as your main vehicle for playing music, this has way too many limitations to be anything more than that but go ahead and start with it as long as your ONLY A VERY BEGINNER with absolutely no experience. If however, you've used other things before, it's a nice addition but nothing more.

THE MOST INFORMED REVIEW

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

the scroll wheel works and then doesnt. sometimes the wheel if i move it left or right both directions it moves up and i can scroll down the list. sometimes if i go to play a song it plays the one before it and i thought maybe i moved the wheel at the last second but ive carefully done it and it still screws up. sometimes when a song is playing and i go to the artist list or song or w/e it just starts the song over. there are a couple more glitches i have had this problem with 3 units and still no luck. as for the idj2 they have been talking about it and advertising it for over a year and its still not out.........i have resently bought a new mixer

Useful tool, in certain applications

By mhp1990

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

I'm a mobile dj thats been in business for 15 years and I have owned this product for a little over a year. The quality really is'nt good and the features arn't great but for certain applications this product is perfect ie:boat functions, small house partys, athletic events. If you buy this piece of equipment you need to consider it to be disposable. When it breaks just buy a new one. If you want something that is supposed to be better you should wait until the idj2 comes out later this year. That has pitch control, scratch wheels, onboard effects and many other features and uses only 1 ipod. I believe the cost is around $500. With the idj1 you get what you pay for but it's perfect if you dont want to risk your primary rig at those less paying gigs.

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

I see what everyone is talking about. Don't call a product d.j. epuipment, if it doesn't mix! I'll say this about what you have. Let's see if you will make a mixer that has a tempo/ pitch control and sell it 1/2 of market value.

If you're serious then...

By Tolerance

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

This doesn't make sense. As far as I can see, there isn't a way to adjust the pitch/tempo of the songs. Why one would need a crossfader for playing one song after another with no attempts to mix is beyond me...

A REAL DJ WOULD USE SOFTWARE WITH PITCH SPEED

By DjsForYou

from Long Beach CA

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

Let's have a REAL DJ chime in on these fake dj consoles. If you really want to mix then get software with pitch control. You are not a dj because you put one stock speed song after another. You are a dj because you MIX the songs together. PERIOD. Go to a real dance club and then your average wedding reception. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Get the Pioneer DJS software or the Hercules Mp3 console to start with. Learn to mix and you will truly feel the love of djing. I have been in the dj game since 83, so i have seen it all. Learn to blend the songs and people will get you work. Good luck and skip free music.

IDJ

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Numark iDJ Mixing Console for iPod:

This is a great piece of equipment. At the price, it is unbelievable. This is all that any mobile Dj needs for some simple djing, and nothing complicated. It can be used for whoever wants to use their ipods with their Dj equipment, and this IDJ is pretty all around. It has a crossfader, individual level change, and treble - bass controls that any DJ would need. It is very simpled to operate, and i recommend this to anyone who has 2 ipods and needs to use them. =)
