To listen the sound output, I needed some way of doing it since it doesn't make it easy to connect to 3.5mm stereo earphones. In my case, I use this unit with some cheap audio (US$2) cable (happened to be easily reachable in my room) to minidisc recorder. I use minidisc recorder just to see if it will make any difference. Tried with "loud music": guitar (Alvaro Sanchez) and voice (Bible songs for kids, Volume 1) from audio cd. Using Numark stereoIO as a "player", it sound incredibly great on my average minidisc recorder/player (Sony MZ-R909). Must use the original USB cable, although it is only 2 feet long. When I use cheap USB extension cable, I got plenty of noise. Problem disappears when using thicker USB extension cable. Another way is to connect it to hifi stereo to hear the evaluate the sound quality. When I used premium audio cable (OFC, gold connectors, very much thicker) and connected it to my hifi stereo, the sound volume drops considerably. Needed amplifier to boost sound to audible volume. Not worth trying with premium audio cable for me, I am not sure where it went wrong. Recording to minidisc and playback is so much easier and sounds better. Earphones can make some difference too. Iriver-supplied earphones do sound much better than Sony walkman-supplied earphones. Sound clarity of Numark was exceptionally good, something like what I hear on my Tascam DR-1 (Tascam DR-1 also works as a great audio player). In the guitar recording/playback, I could hear the vibration of guitar strings. In the voice recording/playback, I could hear the breathing in and out of vocals as clearly as my own breathing. Incredible. The difference i attributed it to this Numark because when I use different method to record and playback with minidisc, it never sound that good. My church stereo equipment setup easily cost ten of thousands of dollars, yet honestly I dont think it sounded that good compared to this little Numark. I dont know why. As for built, good except that the connectors are not gold. One thing to note: if you connect to amplifier/hifi, always power-on the amplifier last (after powering Numark), and always power-off the amplifier first when shutting down. Described in much detail in the manuals provided.
I bought this item with the Numark Mixtrack about 4 moth ago,the GC staff told me that this IO was good and inexpensive in part his right, when i ask him that if it had to connect a headphone jack and he told me yes, so i bought it got home opened it up was not what he has described. But lets put that beside its Sound quality is REALLY impressive. The limitation in this product is the input for a headphone jack and a mic that would make it the best inexpensive product by Numark
i bought this yesterday at guitar center. i recorded my pearl exr eddition drums they sound great. io can be more happy with this. why i put a 4 star is becouse its really cheap made and fells like ifit wall would break instently
Great product, Well made. Only issues are that the ground is hard to reach and it's uses I Tunes format to download Vinyl. So if you want your music in another format, like I do. You'll need a program that will convert it for you. The sound quality is excellant. It's super easy to use. So easy the first time I thought I needed to do more then I did. For people that want a good sounding card without spending a lot of money. This is a great choice.
I am an inexperienced person when it comes to the big world of home studio, so a small, easy to use and cheep device was a really nice buy. I use it to record my DJ sets to Ableton, and it's a breeze. The only reason I don't give it a full 5 stars is the lack of more ports would be nice, but its sweet!
