Kind of plasticy and light weight but not bad for the $$. It takes some getting use to if you use turntables a lot, but once you get use to the feel of it, it turns into hours of fun. I mashed on this thing for 5 hours when I first got it without any glitches at all. Scratching and everything else feels good I am impressed. Sound quality is good although I wish I could get more volume out of the headphones.... It comes with Virtual DJ LE which reads your Itunes Library but does NOT read your Itunes playlists on mac OS but will read playlists on PC???. I was able to Midi Map the Mixtrack to DJAY3 (well everything minus the Jogwheels can't Scratch in DJAY3). I was also able to map it to Serato Scratch Live for Cues samples and efx, and also the pitch bend/speed controls when on internal mode which is pretty cool as well. I have to say Numark has stepped up their game, there are lots of possibilities with this unit not only as DJ Controller/midi but as a soundcard too!

the mixtrack pro is good to start out with. it has enough features to keep you busy for a while, but when you really try and use it it shows its faults. my first beef is that the hi,lo, and mid dont actually kill. they just reduce the volume. the response time is not very quick (sometimes if i try and press the cue repeatedly it changes my cue 'which is the most irritating of all being that i use them so much') Secondly the software sucks, virtual dj isnt bad, buy i cant even change skins, preferences, anything. if you even try to see the preferences it just give you a choice to upgrade to VDJ pro or go back to what you were doing. numark did a good job with this deck, but not good enough for me. just sold mine and bought a v7, CDJ 850 and a vestax pcm 280 mixer. much better. if you are just starting out, i recommend buying the non-Pro version of the mixtrack. the only difference is the built in interface. i bought the pro so i could maybe use it at a party, but the performance of the mixtrack is more of a learning tool. if your just looking to screw around, learn how to mix, or are a beginner in general numark made a great product. buy it and get started, but if you plan on playing a party or anything, i advise you to fork up some real cash and buy a v7 and a cheap mixer. you will be much more satisfied.

First impression is ALWAYS important

By Josue Gallegos

from Shelbyville,Tennessee

I new in all this dj stuff, and at first I didn't known what to get.So, I did my research and ended up buying the Mixtrack Pro.When I got home and tried it out, I was disappointed that the mic wasn't working.I went back and got an another. It worked for a while but after a month it didn't work.So I went back a got ANOTHER one,but IT DIDN'T WORKED!.I took the Mixtrack and asked them to test to see if was working, and it wasn't.I ended up getting one that did work.So always check it before leaving the store.I just hope this doesn't happen to ya,nut other than that a good unit for the price

Works great with Mixxx and Ubuntu Linux

By Jeffrey Hubbard

from Charlotte, NC

I bought this controller to use with Mixxx, on my laptop that I've installed Ubuntu Linux on. Everything works great, just plug it in, open Mixxx, and setup the audio ins/outs and select the Mixtrack Pro MIDI CC map. No drivers to install or anything, kudos to Numark for making the audio and MIDI hardware class-compliant. The overall quality and feel of the controller is great for the price.

its an alright controller, its a good controller if your literally brand new to DJing its very easy to learn. i recently bought it and it was a mistake, it barely has anything, its just not enough, and serato dj intro, the software it comes with, isn't that great, its EXTREMELY laggy. it sucks, I'm tired of it, I'm going to return it and by the numark n4. its an alright controller if your brand new to DJing. if your not brand new, and you already know how to i recommend buying a better controller. sound card and player works great but the unit it seems to be built too cheaply or it was just B stock at local guitar center. The play button broke 3 months after use. Otherwise a simple to use controller to play songs and beat mix. not so much for scratching due to latency issues.

Not Pro Gear

By Roger Mabie

from Florida

It is not very responsive, meaning you can't do quick mixing tricks. Try to scratch a track and reloop right back on beat out of the scratch. Not happening. It won't let you do anything that invloves multiple actions within a 2 or 3 beat time frame. People say it's better if you purchase VDJ pro, but that costs as much as buying the unit, and I don't believe that it will solve my issues so I'll be out even more money. It is good for beginners or for people who don't do a lot of tricky digital mixing. It will beatmix, and drop effects, loops etc. but can't handle really challenging maneuvers. Also... No balanced outputs basically means it is not a pro piece of equipment. It's a $250 conversation piece in my house. It will be good for my son when he's old enough to start learning. :)

Wasn't all that impressed. (beginner DJ's point of view)

By Matt Hojsik

from Albany, NY.

This was my first real controller (besides a DJ2GO ha) and maybe I was expecting too much, but I wasn't blown away by this device. PROS: Price is pretty decent, and the features it brings to the table for the price isn't too shabby. CONS: I thought the build quality was somewhat cheap and Virtual DJ LE is a joke. Could be a PRO or a CON: Controller is really basic.
