Kind of plasticy and light weight but not bad for the $$. It takes some getting use to if you use turntables a lot, but once you get use to the feel of it, it turns into hours of fun. I mashed on this thing for 5 hours when I first got it without any glitches at all. Scratching and everything else feels good I am impressed. Sound quality is good although I wish I could get more volume out of the headphones.... It comes with Virtual DJ LE which reads your Itunes Library but does NOT read your Itunes playlists on mac OS but will read playlists on PC???. I was able to Midi Map the Mixtrack to DJAY3 (well everything minus the Jogwheels can't Scratch in DJAY3). I was also able to map it to Serato Scratch Live for Cues samples and efx, and also the pitch bend/speed controls when on internal mode which is pretty cool as well. I have to say Numark has stepped up their game, there are lots of possibilities with this unit not only as DJ Controller/midi but as a soundcard too!

the mixtrack pro is good to start out with. it has enough features to keep you busy for a while, but when you really try and use it it shows its faults. my first beef is that the hi,lo, and mid dont actually kill. they just reduce the volume. the response time is not very quick (sometimes if i try and press the cue repeatedly it changes my cue 'which is the most irritating of all being that i use them so much') Secondly the software sucks, virtual dj isnt bad, buy i cant even change skins, preferences, anything. if you even try to see the preferences it just give you a choice to upgrade to VDJ pro or go back to what you were doing. numark did a good job with this deck, but not good enough for me. just sold mine and bought a v7, CDJ 850 and a vestax pcm 280 mixer. much better. if you are just starting out, i recommend buying the non-Pro version of the mixtrack. the only difference is the built in interface. i bought the pro so i could maybe use it at a party, but the performance of the mixtrack is more of a learning tool. if your just looking to screw around, learn how to mix, or are a beginner in general numark made a great product. buy it and get started, but if you plan on playing a party or anything, i advise you to fork up some real cash and buy a v7 and a cheap mixer. you will be much more satisfied.

Awesome Product - Bad Software

By DJ Leanderthal

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I just recently purchased this as a beginner DJ. I am absolutely loving it as a whole and it is definitely worth the money. However, I am thinking of returning it only because of the program it comes with - Virtual DJ LE. I already had Traktor Pro, and I even went through all of the trouble of mapping it button by button myself, only to realize that no matter what I did, I couldn't get the interface to work and the outputs weren't working and it was a huge compatibility issue. Unless you are a VDJ fan, I would stay away from this piece of equipment until a better program creates the files for this. But, like I said earlier, it is a great piece of equipment, just a bad program to go with it.

Like a little piece of Karma

By ENRG

from Fresno, CA

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

Really nice so far, works great out of the box with LE, however, being used to VDJ Pro, I went ahead and upgraded. VDJ Pro with this thing is super powerful, yet super easy to function. Love the easy to use basic I/O sound card, but with there was more adaptability. Super lightweight! And so far very rugged, but this isn't something you throw into an equipment bag and hope it survives. Treat it nicely, and it will reward you back.

Great peice of equippment.

By DJ Qube

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I purchased this controller last night and I could not take my hads off of it. The software that comes with it is plenty for anyone playing at weddings, parties or any formal event. The software has a lot of the features found in softwares like TRAKTOR PRO, or Serato scratch. I like the effects (only a few basic ones), it stores up to 12 samplers, has synch options (not perfet and require slight tweaking), the software has 3 different views (scratch, mixer and video - I personally like the scratch view). There is a slight and i do mean slight delay in controls which takes getting used to. The browser knob works flawlessly the sensitivity on the scratch jog wheels is perfect (at least for me). The loops are great but require mouse input to select the 2,4,8,16,32 beat loops for easy looping. The individual track gain controls are on screen only as well as the samplers. It is extremely light weight and performs very well. For the money I feel that this is the best purchase that I have made to date.

Mixtrack PRO!

By Bennett Smith

from Phoenix Arizona

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

This was my first controller as a beginner dj. The Mixtrack pro is very easy to set-up just install plug and play. Virtual DJ LE is nice but I would recommend upgrading to pro. Virtual DJ LE reads your iTunes library on pc but does not read playlists where virtual dj pro does. It is very simple and easy to use. Great to learn with. I am not very good at scratching but trying it out and trying to learn some of the techniques is very fun. It can be a tiny bit laggy but not anything that could be a problem. The only issue I had was that after having it plugged in for two days straight, the touch sensitivity on one of the platters turned off, but a quick unplug, replug was enough to fix the problem. One con of the whole system is that it does not have dedicated gain knobs, but that can be fixed by easily remapping a fx nob for the gain or you can manually do it in virtual dj. It is easy to transport and reliable assuming you have a computer that can run the program which is not very demanding. I have been obsessed with it for about two weeks now, playing with it every chance I get. I am in Love!

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I'm an intermediate Dj. I bought this because I couldn't afford a turntable or cdj set up and all my music is digatal. I debated between timecode and this. I'm so happy i chose this. The layout is simple and easy to use extremely portible. I bought this the day of an all night gig 12 straight through hours. Took 2 min to install software on my computer and being a vdj fan i was excited to see that this shipped with it but disapointed that is shipped with le insted of pro. it lasted the night and exceded my expectations. I love this and would recomend it to any one. DJrockaboy

Well Preformed

By DJ AIRBORNE

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

i would recommend this to anybody who is a beginner. the software virtual dj is a very well preformence program. the numark device is a dependible peice of equpiment its easy to set up and very easy to transport. the features of it are not complicated it will par up with your expectations. its a cheap professional way of mixing your music and will still get the same effects as a full deck kit. if you want a small venue gig or even huge i would use this mixer. the price is amazing as well as its preformence in the club or at home. when i got to feel the numark board the scratching is incredible the feel is slik it just flows with your fingers its a cheap way to preform professional music for the fans. it will always be my recommedation

freakin sick!

By Erik

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I have been in the A/V field for 4 years and recently decided to take my audio experience to a new level as a DJ. Knowing the basics of what I would need, I picked up this set-up as my first set up and it ROCKS! I was expecting some latency while scratching, I got none. The mixer may not be this huge as heck mixer with frequency levels and all that but it works more effective than I expected. When you kill a frequency, you KILL the frequency, there is no fake bologna, it doesn't sound faked or anything. As a beginner's set-up, I am very satisfied. I can see how a professional would not like this kind of set-up, but for a beginner it rocks. The built in sound card makes life quite easy. It IS made out of plastic but is does not feel cheap at all. I highly recommend this product!

Great Product

By Greg DeMella

from Chesapeake VA

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I have been interested in DJing for a while and decided to try it out myself, so i did my research and decided to go with this unit for both the price and great reviews it's been getting. I've had it now for about 6 weeks and I love it. Very easy to use (especially with online tutorials), lightweight and easy to transport, and has everything you would need to do a small gig (cue points, loops, etc.). Mixing has been great, and the unit is very responsive, even for scratching. I highly recommend this product for a beginner, or even for someone who is looking for a smaller product to take to house parties and such.

Good controller to get your feet wet...

By DJ TC

from Middlebury, CT

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

If you've used controllers in the past the pro's and cons to this unit will jump out at you imediately. If you haven't, here's what you'll find: For what you're going to spend the over-all size is a major plus and the platters were better than expected, you can scratch (kind of) and also nudge them along the outside to speed up or slow the track, the effects and loop section are pretty standard, the onboard search and load buttons are handy, there is a SYNC button which is a beginners best friend, the 1/4" mic input that works ok, and it's a lot bigger than other controller's in this price range. The software itself is fine for a beginner, but buyer beware, there is a reason we pay several hundred dollars for the pro version of whatever software be it Serato, Traktor, or VDJ. The cons of this unit are as follows: The over-all build quality does not live up to the term "PRO". It's made of plastic, the fader, buttons, and knobs are representitive of basic, primarily recreational equipment. The sound card only offers one set of RCA outputs and there are no inputs (You cannot hook up an iPod, additional CD Player, etc). There is definately a lag with this controller (and believe me, it's not the laptop), but it's not really as bad as I feared it might be. This is not something that can withstand daily use and being carted around frequently. I was stuck because some of my gear was being worked on, aka I broke it and were over-booked. I needed an additional set of euipment for one night, at an easy gig. Not wanting to break the bank I picked one of these up to get me through. It worked ok. I ran it with VDJ pro and through a separate mixer to juice up the sound a little and I was relatively satisfied with it. If you can afford to spend $1,000ish and get your hands on more of a standard pro class controller I would reccomend it. Anyone who is former turntablist, or CDJ type will be extremely displeased with this, unless your buying it for your kid. But if you're literally just looking to start off by mixing up you're iTunes library in your room or at house parties, go for it. You'll out grow it quickly, but it's not a huge investment and does have some surprising features all things considered.

Good first step!

By Dj Faze

from Ketchikan, Alaska

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

The Mixtrack Pro is a solid all in one unit that gets the party started. One cable to your PC and one RCA to your sound system and your good to go! Setting up the Mixtrack Pro was simple. The software was easy to load. I plugged in the USB cable to the unit and it was up and running with a few simple clicks of the mouse. I spent about a half hour playing around with the unit. By then, I had a fair grasp of the unit's functions. The sync function makes beat matching tracks brainless. It's a blast messing around with the effects and hot cues. I played a gig on the weekend and the setup worked without a hitch. On the build here are the Pros: Large, touch sensitive jog wheels. Fair slides and firm, backlit buttons. Good stage presence, doesn't look like my little brother's toy. Cons: Plastic case is sturdy , but, just like any other piece of sensitive gear don't drop it. As above, the slides are fair, but, they will not hold up to heavy handed use. Treat them like a lady. Don't expect to be able to scratch in real time. There is a lag on response even running with an I7 core. Overall, the Mixtrack Pro is a thumbs up for the buck. A good place to start without breaking the bank.

Just not enough

By Gabriel Tower

from Colorado

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

I used to be a vinyl DJ, then took a break and upon getting back into it went the control surface route, but started on the cheaper side. I like Numark so I ended up getting a Mixtrack Pro. Pros: price, intuitive layout, great effects layout, has everything you need to mix. Cons: Maybe i'm comparing it to a high end vinyl setup, but there seems to be a lot lacking here. No gain nobs, nobs and sliders feel flimsy, the jog wheels feel pretty useless (more often than not I just use the pitch bend), and the out of the box software is junk (I decided to drop 100 on Traktor Duo for recording and quality). Also the manual that comes with it is total garbage. I had to resort to browsing google for the better part of an hour just to get the onboard sound card to function properly. Summary: If there were a 2.5 rating I would have given it that. It's not a horrible surface, but it's also not a great surface. You are just getting into DJing new, you might not notice these things. It definitely works and I've already made several mixes without too much challenge. If you want something cheap that gets the job done, I'd say go for it. But don't expect it to rock your world.

By Matt Hojsik

from Albany, NY.

Comments about Numark DJ Software Controller with Audio I/O:

This was my first real controller (besides a DJ2GO ha) and maybe I was expecting too much, but I wasn't blown away by this device. PROS: Price is pretty decent, and the features it brings to the table for the price isn't too shabby. CONS: I thought the build quality was somewhat cheap and Virtual DJ LE is a joke. Could be a PRO or a CON: Controller is really basic.
