The Neumann TLM 103 Anniversary Condenser Microphone is an ideal large-diaphragm mic for all professional and semi-professional applications. By utilizing the tried-and-true transformerless circuit found in numerous Neumann microphones, the TLM 103 features very low self-noise and the highest sound pressure level transmission. The capsule, derived from that used in the U 87, has a cardioid pattern, is acoustically well-balanced, and provides extraordinary attenuation of signals from the rear.
Includes an aluminum mic briefcase and EA-1 elastic suspension mount.
The TLM 103 is equipped with a large diaphragm capsule with cardioid pattern. By focusing on this pattern -- used in most recording situations -- the attenuation of unwanted rear sound has been optimized. Off-axis sounds are rendered naturally while isolation is increased. This also leads to high feedback suppression when the microphone is used in live situations or where loudspeaker playback is a factor.
The capsule has a flat frequency response up to about 5kHz, and above that, a wide, flat 4dB presence boost. The large wire mesh headgrille protects the capsule from plosive sounds and effectively prevents pop noises. These characteristics are achieved without resorting to corrective resonance effects. Therefore, the microphone maintains an excellent impulse response and reproduces the finest details of music and speech without coloration.
With just 7dB-A/17.5dB CCIR the self-noise level is so low that even the smallest signals are reproduced basically noise-free. As it is capable of handling sound pressure levels up to 138dB without distortion, the TLM 103 provides a dynamic range of 131dB.
The entire internal construction is elastically mounted to attenuate any structure-borne noise that could interfere with the TLM 103's operation. Furthermore the capsule is set on an elastic mount.
The frequency range reaches below 20Hz and thus even very low bass signals are reproduced without coloration. Because of this low frequency extension, the TLM 103 is more sensitive to structure-borne interference and wind noise.
Requires phantom power.

I've tracked with the 103 for the past 4 years and have completely loved it. It with a nice ribbon (and if you're getting fancy, a 57 or md421 dynamic) will be incredible on electric guitar. I consistently use it on acoustic as well as vocals. It's transparent enough to not be annoying to use all over the place, yet it's got enough character to be well used in a prominent spot. Love it!
This is a great mic to add to your collection. I highly recommend getting the anniversary package, so you get the case & shock mount together, great savings opportunity. This mic is great on vocals or instruments, very versatile. It's a winner in my studio!
The TLM 103 Anniversary is a great vocal mic for the price. It is clear, smooth, and durable. While this is not my "go to" mic, it is better than 90% of the U87 rip offs. This mic will give you a professional and clear vocal sound. It is easy to eq, and you should have no problems getting the best out of your vocalist with this microphone.
The Neumann TLM 103 has to be one of the industry standards for a good all around mic. We have 4 of these babies at our studio and they haven't failed us yet. No matter what application, the TLM 103 can make any recording sound natural and warm. The 103 has that crisp sound with a bit of that classic warmth known by Neumann mic enthusiasts. Pair this mic with a great pre amp, and you have an amazing pristine recording, especially for vocals. Some even say, this mic is a bit too clean but it all depends on your preference. Honestly, for its price this is the only mic you'll need in a project studio. It's multipurpose and very affordable! Great job Neumann.
