As big a landscape as the pro audio industry is, there's no doubt that some names are always going to stand out from the rest. When it comes to mics, Neumann is definitely one of those names. They have a long and storied history, having backed up the performances of musicians including Natalie Cole, Beyoncé, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion and even the Beatles. What's even more impressive is that's only a short list of the stars who have relied on Neumann, either for their studio recordings or when they've taken the stage with mics like the Neumann live sound microphones in this section. If you think you're ready to join that exclusive club, you're in the right place to do it.

When most manufacturers set out to build mics for live sound, they go with a dynamic capsule. Neumann did things a little differently - with the Neumann KMS 104 Handheld Vocal Condenser Microphone and the Neumann KMS105 Microphone, they've actually managed to pack in a studio condenser capsule. The result is incredibly natural voice reproduction (sibilants and all), with resolution and frequency response that go above and beyond what a typical dynamic mic can do. To prep that studio capsule for the high sound pressure levels of the stage, Neumann loaded these mics with special acoustic filters and transformerless impedance converters - so no matter how plosive things get, they're ready to handle it.

The bottom line with KMS-series mics is that you might want to start looking for a phantom power supply to use onstage, because you'll need one to drive that condenser capsule. You'll also need one if you'd rather go classic with a mic like the Neumann U 47 FET Collector's Edition Microphone, but it's definitely worth going to the trouble so that you can get your hands on the awesome performance these mics deliver. Outside-the-box thinking is what makes Neumann live sound microphones so great, so don't be afraid to do things a little differently yourself when putting them to work for you!
