      Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

Don't have to modify the way you sing to avoid the goofy things that cheaper mics do -- in other words, just sing! Not muddy. Far less plosives. Able to get good tonal quality with a much flatter EQ. Don't need to get as close to it as with other mics. In fact, able to get two different voices -- one while singing several inches away, and another when right on it. Worth every penny!

        Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

Forty years in I have used many quality, responsive mics. I have never endorsed a product or written a review for one. Without exception, the Neumann is the finest live performance microphone I have ever used. It replaces many: most recently a Shure 87A Beta.I am a singer/songwriter, not a technician. As a soloist, my voice is my most important instrument; I can't give you the technical rationale for this microphone's impeccable response, but it is there. If I would have known what I was missing, I would have replaced my first SM58 in the 70's with the Neumann, and never looked back. From large to small venues, it is invaluable to me.

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

Love it! I have always had a problem with the projection of my voice. The sound guy can only turn you up so much without getting feed back. With this mic my voice is load and clear. The sound is crisp and amazing. We are two lead vocalists in my band and the female vocalist said it sounded so crisp and clean. The rest of the band said that initially they had to turn me down, which never happens with me, but then they said at the end of the night it didn't seem as loud. Voice fatigue maybe? Or maybe just singing at a lower volume because I'm not used to hearing my voice? I don't know .... But I love it!

          Transparency and warmth

          By Johannes Labusch

          from Zurich, Switzerland

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

This microphone is not going to make a breathtanking difference in a loud rock band. Its strengths are most obvious in an acoustic group, for use by singer-songwriters or jazz vocalists. If you compare it to any of the standard microphones you know (including handheld condensers by other manufacturers), you will feel as if a skillful engineer added some magic using expert equalazation, filters and/or compression. There is a stunning addition of clarity and presence, especially in the high frequencies. This does not make the sound of your voice harsh or "pointy" in any way, though. Instead, you will notice a warmth that could be compared to what happens when you add a tube preamp. The representation of the voice is without any "beutification", though. If you have weaknesses, especially in sibilance, pitch or breathing noises, those will be shown as audibly as your strengths. Handling the mike on stage is not completely without its challenges: Since Neumann built the pop-protection entirely without foam (there is simply a series of finer and finer mesh inside the wire basket), the protection from plosives is not foolproof. If you pop your "p"s, or tend to really "spit and shout", this mike may not be for you. (it may also not be quite as indestructible as a Shure warhorse. Try to avoid throwing this mike on the floor...). You also may have to adjust your mike technique, because this microphone actually likes it if you keep a bit of distance, as opposed to the old "SM85-eat-the-mike" style. Even with a distance of 2-4 inches, it still "hears" every little thing. Obviously, a microphone can't fix problems that occur elsewhere in the sound chain. My PA is, I would say, medium quality, it's one of those systems with two smaller speakers and a big subwoofer. The mixer is a "budget" model from Behringer. Still, the Neumann absolutely shines with this rig. With a better system, the improvement may be even more audible. I have used my KMS 105 for about half a year, always in small to mid sized venues, in a duo and a trio, in both cases at moderate volumes. I have also used it in solo gigs with just an acoustic guitar, in which it has provided me with an astonishing degree of separation from the guitar frequencies. The voice just coexists with the guitar, as if there was no amplification happening at all. I believe this microphone has made me a more secure, and therefore versatile singer. In recording applications, it has replaced my Shure KSM32, which is a large diaphragm condenser, and can't hold a candle to the Neumann. When recording, I use the Neumann with a regular studio style pop-screen.

          Best Investment!

          By Justin Centeno

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

This mic is by far is the best investment I (as a singer) have ever made! I couple this mic with a Presonus Eureka microphone pre-amp when I'm on stage and the sound (in my opinion) is unmatched by even the wireless versions of the same calibre!! I've also used this mic with out the Pre-amp and it still amazes me on the minute detail and precision that this mic reproduces! Definitely my prized possession out of all my gear!!!

Adding it to my list for 2009.......

          By Sam Martin

          from Redding, CA

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

So, my team and I were invited to lead worship at a really big church... 3,000 plus filled the auditorium.... and I was quite nervous, at my church I utilise the Shure Beta 87A, but this time the sound engineer told to try this mic, I did not really notice a big difference besides the fact that my voice sounded deeper, but when I heard the recording playback I was amazed, I truly was! this mic made my voice sound not only deeper but also full rich and definetely stronger. At the end of the service people were greeting me saying that my voice was strong, full and confident. I still like the Beta 87A, but I most certainly want to buy this mic and to add it to my collection to have more options, I think it's a little expensive but certainly worth it, so if you can justify the price of this product for it's quality I recommend you get it, but first test it in a live scenario or music store, to ensure you don't make a mistake, always a great idea when purchasing a new product!!! Well, God bless you all!!!!! JESUS ROCKS!!!!

          Perfect in every way.

          By Suntrack

          from OR

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

There is a reason why the live audio industry looks up to neumann. The kms105 is a microphone that will make the best vocalist sound better than they have ever sounded before. But of course your sound is only as good as your weakest link. You will not notice a difference between the Km105 and the Sure sm58 if you have a crappy system. If you are running a low end systym like bose, just stick with the SM58, you will do your wallet a favor. But if you are running a Nexo other high end sound system your collection will not be complete with out this mic.

          the bomb

          By Bob-AiCdu

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

I have owned this mic for seven years. I also own Audio Technica (atm 41, better than a 58) Sennheiser, and Shure. This microphone, for vacals is as close as you will get to a great condenser in the studio. But be warned, if you are off pitch, everyone will hear it, very nakedly. If you are a good vocalist, it will make you sound great.

          Great Mic

          By JustinLayman

          from bradenton, FL

          Comments about Neumann KMS105 Microphone:

The only problem I've had with this mic is that if you have a airy voice it'll make everything a bit muddy. For what it is it's the best. I own a beta58 and a beta87 as well, and i use thoes to "fall back on" if the PA sucks. Another problem is that if you don't have a "good" sound guy and your too close to the drums you'll face some big problems. If you can get your hands on this mic and try it out for a show thats the best thing to do. I know by it's self it's amazing but you have to make that call.
