So I love the way this thing looks, and the features are great for the price. I was quite happy until I started experiencing audio drop outs. They aren't very long and happen randomly, but will be a huge deal if it was to happen during a live performance, which is what this thing was intended for. If you are going to purchase it, PLEASE do a google search for audio kontrol 1 problems/bugs. Read what others are going through and decide if this is something you want to deal with!
I would not recommend buying this audio card. Look elsewhere. I saw good reviews on here and other sites and thought I had made a good purchase. The card sometimes randomly drops out the sound, and more annoyingly it randomly starts producing distorted audio. If you search youtube for "audio kontrol 1 bugs" that video shows EXACTLY what is happening to me and many others. Unfortunately for me this happened AFTER my 30 days, and I was stupid and did not get pro coverage. Other than that, if it didnt have the bugs it would be a nice card, I like the outputs and the monitoring option is cool, but I think Native Instruments should stick to software and leave hardware to the pros!
I've been using this interface for quite a while to do everything from recording to performing. And it's in the performance side where I love it the most. I no longer use hardware synths on my rig; all is controllers and plug-in synths. I've set up keyboard controllers to run sounds in Apple's Mainstage. This device makes that easy. I can run sounds through the different outputs to different channels on my amp as if i had different boards. this thing is very portable and thanks to the programmable buttons I can also control basic transport functions in Logic. Not a high end sound device for recording, so be reasonable. If you want that, you'll need Apogee, MOTU, or some other high end gear that will cost you a lot more.
I was looking to buy an interface so i could hook up my midi controller to my computer then out to a PA system for performing and writing music using my laptop. The Audio Kontrol 1 is cool because it allows me to have a bunch of stuff plugged in such as a mic, headphones, guitar + 1/2 3/4 output for whatever. I use the mic xlr input for recording my piano live and some times vent (program for chatting on the computer). the mic works great. but thats basically it. the other inputs are horrible i can drop my ipod usb chord on a cable that is plugged in and it will make a hideous noise or stop my speakers from making any noise. this is like this for the headphone out and the first output (as those are the only ones i use and unsure of the others) the middle wheel can be programmed for midi stuff which i used in one of the free programs that came with the box (i chose FM8) the other smaller buttons next to the wheel work as midi too. for example i can have the middle wheel as mod or pitch bend and one of the buttons set to toggle the arp on/off or polyphony on/off for trance mixes. pros: i can use good range of basic tools used to make music on my computer cons: output jacks have shorts in them
This is a great interface for the price. Very sturdy in build and function. Software is easy and supports Vista 64bit well. Getting a fre Synth with it was the icing on the cake. Use it with Sonar 8.x and FL Studio with no issues. If you are looking for a solid interface for the price range seriously consider this one.
Alright, so i bought this audio interface not knowing its full potential. I bought it last year for some simple recording stuff. At first i didnt really like it much, but then i talked to some people, and then found out that you can plug in a mixer to this bad boy because it has 2 line ins. So, i paired it up with a super portable mixer, and it works soooooo good. Everything is crystal clear. And the knobs and buttons on the top really separate this one from the rest. They serve quite useful when you just want a shortcut to turn up the volume or change the tracks on itunes, or control your recording software. I really recommend something like this for a super portable recording studio. Just pair it up with mics, and a small mixing board, and you're good to record your music up in the alps. anyways, You just have to learn to mess with it a little bit, but it wont take that long to learn. It is e-mazing.
This is a great product fits right in with native instruments quality plug-ins this interface does it all the sound quality is great lots features and and good software. Everything is configurable to your liking even the Knob and buttons on top... you can configure them for your apps through midi...the case made out aluminum and is really durable...small and convient to store pretty much anywhere gets the job done
I am using Audio Kontrol to output sound from a DJing program called Traktor and it works well. It allows me to cue tracks in my headphones while continuously playing the mix over my system. The sound quality is high and it is easy to use. Make sure your computer has more than the minimum RAM...I started out with 512MB and had some glitches and dropouts...when I bumped the RAM up to 1.5GB everything sounded clear. I had a little trouble using the pre-programmed midi controls...for some reaon Traktor would not recognize the commands. Once I programmed the midi commands manually it worked great though. It also was important to follow the manual's directions on optimizing system performance...don't gloss over all the fine print...it is important to making everything sound perfect.
