I have played brass instruments for 50 years. In my home studio I am using two MXL V63M's & two Nady RSM8A's through my Behringer mixer into a Fostex MR16HD recorder. A ribbon microphone adds a warm(natural) quality to the recorded sound quality of brass instruments. The RSM8A's are phantom powered so their gain is comparable to the condenser mics. I am very pleased with the recorded results.
