I got a portastudio and good mic to do some home recording, and learned immediately that my forceful voice needed a pop filter. I also tend to stomp and/or shake my free leg when I sit and play, so I figured a shock mount would be wise. I took a chance on an inexpensive product that hadn't been reviewed and I don't regret it. I don't have much to compare it with, but the construction seems solid enough. I just kept the shipping box to transport it; I wouldn't want to shove it in a bag without some protection. I recorded voice and guitar all last weekend and had no problems with pops or vibrations, and I have a booming voice. Not sure why anyone would pay more. One tip for any sensitive mic: sing at a slight angle instead of directly into the mic, and back off a little. If it's a good mic you don't need to brush your teeth with it, and you'll be happier with the sound.
First off, I've been recording vocals and Making music for 8 years. I love all styles and use my Microphones for all things, but mainly vocals. I used to use an MXL shock-mount and had to wrap a cut up sock around my Mic with rubber bands so the mic would be thick enough for the shock-mount... Not very safe/professional.
I recently purchased the Nady SSPF-4 Pop Filter/Spider Shock Mount and I must say I AM PLEASED!!!!!
It IS perfect for Nady mics, no shock, no boom, no movement noise. You will want to purchase another pop filter or make one [pantyhose ;] to reduce the hiss/pop/"ssss" noises.
If you have a Nady Mic, get this shockmount! 'Nuff Said.
You did it again Guitar Center.
Ordered it to temporarily replace another shock mount, and was disappointed in its quality. Felt very flimsy and the pop filter is pretty gimmicky. Although it works, it doesn't really absorbe nearly as much as it should for the price.
