I didn't get this boom too long ago nor do i use it for a lot, except to hold up my condenser mic and pop filter. It works pretty well for what i use it for, but the one thing i noticed is that it is not counterbalanced what-so-ever... if i try and extend the boom all the way out, my mic stand starts to tip over... Now granted my mic stand that this is mounted on isnt the most stable thing in the world either... its working well just to keep my mic in place and should do the trick for just about anyone that only needs a little boost.
I've purchased the 6-pack and 10-pack boom mic stands from GC in the past. It's the best deal going, unless you need bomb-proof, super-sturdy, infinitely adjustable gear for full-time use. The weak point (IMHO) is the threads that mount the boom to the mic stand. People always seem to adjust the boom without loosening the hinge binder, and this eventually tears out the threads, and the stand becomes rather unstable when the boom is extended. At this price point, I think that's perfectly acceptable, especially now that I can replace the boom arm at such a killer price, without having to repurchase another batch of mic stands. My first set of mic stands lasted about 2 years (twice a week use), and I expect the same from these replacements, as they look identical. Threads are metal, not plastic, but obviously not super-hard stuff.
