I bought this to replace the stock pickups in my Ibanez RG320QMTL. Before installing it I measured it at 16.68 ohms. The stock was 11.05 ohms. Pretty hot. Easy install with printed instructions, electing not to do coil-tapping. Tested first with a Roland Micro Cube amp and then on my Marshall MG15DFX. On high gain settings it sounds awesome. Very crunchy and tight sounding. It is a lot louder than the stock (as expected) but also much tighter. It has a very good bite with a sharp edge without having too much treble. I play with the gain around 7, bass around 8 mid around 5 and treble around 9. Some have complained it sounds too muddy and I have not experienced that. On high volume I noticed the highs drop off a tiny bit but can rectify that by turning up the treble. Pinch harmonics are easy and notes ring out loud under heavy whammy bar abuse. Contrary to opinion there is a clean setting...It is called "off." This pup refuses to play clean. People knock it saying it isn't a real Seymour Duncan pickup. Look at the plastic case and cardboard insert. You can clearly see the "designed and distributed by Seymour Duncan" Enough said!! Great pickup for the price.
I know a lot of people would disagree but I put this pickup in a cheaper guitar I have and it sounds almost as good as my 81 that I have installed in my Ibanez. I'm running it on a Vox Valvetronix and on some channels it doesn't sound that great but on the others it sounds fantastic. Plenty of punch, high gain, great on pinch harmonics, and the treble bit cuts through as well. It doesn't sound muffled or muddy like I read in some other reviews for it. I can't believe people were giving this such bad scores... I think it all depends on your amp and what settings you have because like I said it sounds great on some channels and on others it doesn't sound good at all. I have a modeling amp so that is bound to happen. For the price I really wish more pickup manufacturers stopped charging outragerous prices for pickups when obviously you can get some good quality at reasonable prices like this.
i put this in a build i did in place of the traditional strat SSS config cause i wanted a more metal tone put this bad boy in the bridge soldered it in and HOLY COWWWWW the tone blew me away under HEAVY distortion it screams as great as an active pup and thats through a crappy 10 watt amp when i plug it into my amplitube app and turn up the gain i literally squeeled with joy this pickup has NO hum even when you set the volume to 10 i would recommend this to anyone from my 16 year old sister to dan donegan
