  • My favorite by far

With 35 years as an audio engineer for thousands of live concerts, Music Man was one of the few basses that impressed me. When you hook this bass to a direct box and walk out to the mixing console, you can count on it sounding like a bass and cutting through the mix, without having to tweak on any E.Q. . I never had a bad experience with Music Man. Some of the most popular basses out there sound good, and sweet tone at the amp, but when you try to put them together with the rest of a rythm section, they fall short on definition. Not many musicians consider the overall sound of the band when selecting there gear, but the ones that do are more succsessfull.

It's not as flashy looking as some other basses. But it delivers tone in spades. If you can't make this bass sound good, then you need lessons man! The coil switch takes a little getting used to. The series and parallel options are not stark differences but they are definitely two different flavors. The bridge is solid as hell. The action on mine is about the best action on any bass I have every played. And well, I have been playing for about 25 years. If you think you can get a better deal on a bass made in the USA, good luck. This is it. Made in the USA by Ernie Ball, a company still run by Sterling Ball. A man who new and worked with Leo Fender. I'm saving for an olive gold with maple neck right now. The only real downside to these basses is A-kinda heavy, but if you are a bassist you know the game. B-Some amps/effects are plain flattened by the active output. About all the claims that a Warwick would be a better bass for the money. Well if that is what you want, go for it. Besides, don't those come in gig bags? If I spend a G on a bass it better come with a case!

  • It's the one!!!!!

This bass is simply amazing. I have owned my Stingray 5 for close to a month and it is just a joy to play. I choose the black on black Stingray with a maple board. It arrived very quickly. This bass comes with a very nice hard-shell case with a lot of storage space, a sample of the Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes (one string cleaner wipe, a fretboard conditioner wipe, and an instrument polish wipe), a set of keys, and some Ernie Ball and Musicman stickers. It took me almost a week before I could play it because I would open the case and just stare at it and smile. Much to my surprise this bass together with the coil selector switch and the three band EQ provides so much versatility. This Stingray 5 has plenty of growl and punch for days. The fingerboard provides the player with a nice, comfortable, "middle of the road" string spacing at 17.5 mm. There is plenty of room to move around for slapping and other techniques. The unfinished neck feels so good and comfortable in your hands that many players will feel right at home. The bass weighs in at right around ten pounds. Some may find this to be too heavy, while the readers who have owned and played Warwick basses will find a bit of relief. This bass has excellent build quality and the company has great customer service. This bass is perfect from top to bottom and the player can dial in any tone desired. If you are seeking a high end five string and are seeking excellent quality and playability, you can not go wrong with Musicman. Check one out today.
