The electric basses of the 60s had an almost sacred status in music, but along with the 70s came the bold designs and manufacturing excellence of Music Man, whose StingRay bass quickly developed a large following of professional and hobbyist users. Its big chunky neck and thick, creamy output were perfect for the gathering storm of arena rock, punk and metal.

The StingRay was the flagship of the Music Man line when the company emerged, and its design remains largely unchanged since then. LA's power funk from the 80s relied on the muscular, driving presence of the StingRay bass as well, and the bold sound of Music Man makes all the sense in the world today.
