This exciting signature model features beautiful honey bursted koa top on a mahogany body. A select maple neck has an adjustable truss rod and 5-bolt mounting for perfect alignment and stability. A sculpted neck joint allows access to upper frets and a 24-fret ebony fingerboard has wide, high-profile frets and Custom John Petrucci Shield position markers and a mother-of-pearl BFR inlay at 12th fret. The Ball Family Reserve BFR 6 John Petrucci signature guitar is loaded with Schaller locking tuners.
The John Petrucci BFR 6 electric guitar gives you incredibly heavy electric guitar tones, but also gives you the option of great sounding acoustic guitar tones. DiMarzio LiquiFire neck and Crunch Lab bridge humbuckers deliver the extended lows and stinging treble tones that Petrucci uses. A standard 3-way toggle lets you select neck, bridge or both pickups. A push/pull tone control gives you the option of all 4 coils on or just the two middle coils. A second toggle (on the upper bout) lets you select the standard magnetic pickups or the Piezo acoustic pickup, or both! The under-the-bridge piezo electric pickup lets you instantly go from rockin' electric guitar tones to sweet acoustic sounds without having to switch guitars. A separate volume knob controls the piezo pickup. The Music Man guitar's dual jacks give you the choice of running output either magnetic/stereo, or piezo/mono, or both. The Music Man John Petrucci signature guitar comes in a hardshell case.
The Ball family is the last of a dying breed, a family business making guitars and basses exclusively in the United States. Ball Family Reserve is a celebration of their heritage in instrument craftsmanship that features some of the finest figured tone woods and finishes available. These rare heritage pieces are offered in limited runs and makes available to the public instruments that were previously reserved for the Ball family and their loyal artists.

I have owned a Gibson ES345 since 1971 and it is beautiful instrument, still in almost mint condition. It has been my baby since I was a teenager. But this EB Music Man is better :-). This instrument is so well made!! The setup from the factory was better than even custom shops from other brands do. My instrument is the Koa Top, Ebony Fretboard version. Nothing plays like this neck and fretboard. And yes, I've played most everything over 40 years. I play in a cover band (classic rock) and I only need to take one guitar around to gigs with me. The DiMarzio split humbuckers, combined with the piezo pickups under each bridge saddle give this guitar an unrivaled sound. My Gibson hasn't been out of its case for many months.
This Ernie Ball Music Man (John Petrucci model) sports a great tremelo bridge, locking Schaller tuners, Ebony fretboard, attractive Koa wood top, phenomenal electronics and it just plays like a dream. Even when switching into single-coil pickups for that Strat-esque sound there is no noise or buzz.
The case is plush, but excessively heavy. One of the latches sticks, from the first day I took it home. I think for $3,500 I should be able to get a decent, and at the very least, fully functional guitar case.
Its a pricey guitar, made entirely in the USA (California) but I don't begrudge even one cent that I spent on it. It even plays very sweet dinner jazz in addition to awesome rock music.
I was not looking for a Music Man guitar. I was looking for a good guitar for playing classic rock for my new band so I as usual did a bunch of research online to narrow the search and then began my rounds of the usual retail outlets where I could try the instruments. The Music Man guitars were not on my list of candidates. I tried all the usual suspects (Gibson, Ibanez, Fender, Gretsch, Paul Reed Smith etc.) but didn't like any of them. Then an employee at Guitar Center asked me what I was looking for. (He was probably ticked off because I'd been playing all his guitars for hours). When I described exactly what I was looking for he asked "Have you ever thought of Music Man?". I thought what did I have to lose? Hi took it down from the rack 30 feet above our heads and handed it to me - I was blown away. Thank you Ross Ketchum of Guitar Center! The rest is history.
Ross knows his guitars, and drums, and ... Seriously, if you want to talk to someone who knows his stuff talk to Ross a the Winter Park Guitar Center, Florida.
I have owned this guitar for 6 months now and every time I touch it get the same experience I got the first time I touched it. After six months of fairly heavy use I still find it flawless. I give this guitar six out of five stars.
Ive played this guitar twice, and I can't stop thinking about the nearly perfect quality it has. Its very easy to play and sounds very clear. Love it. This is probably my favorite guitar. If I had the money there's no doubt I would get it.
