  • Incredible Guitar

As reviewed by John on 7/12/2010

This guitar is simply amazing. I own an LTD V350 with EMG 81s and the sound of the JP6 destroys the V350 in clean tones; the sustain and overall sound of the JP6 is at a whole other level not to mention the guitar looks amazing, it's beautiful. I play a lot of Metallica and Dream Theater, but also heavier stuff like lamb of god and shadows fall and this guitar owns. HIGHLY recommended for anyone that can afford it; worth every penny. I have owned a few guitars now and this one is by FAR the best!

  • Not without faults but an exceptional instrument

As reviewed by Eddie on 3/9/2011

I purchased "Victoria" from the Santa Clara, CA store in August 2009. I sampled dozens of instruments before choosing the Petrucci reserve model. After 1.5 years of daily play, I am as confident as ever that this is the perfect instrument for me. The neck is the smoothest I have ever played. The natural finish and thin neck allow for effortless shredding. You can bend and whammy the bejeezus out of the strings without it going out of tune. The guitar itself is lightweight but sturdy. The bridge pickup has an incredibly sharp sound without being noisy. The neck provides a nice warm lead tone. The middle provides a nice clean tone for funky and 80s clean tones but comes across a little muddy when distorted. This guitar does have a few minor issues. First, the floating bridge makes it difficult to do significant tuning changes and maintain intonation, so I need to keep my Ibanez RG-470 around for drop-D tunings. Second, the piezo switch is inconveniently located. When I start getting into the music, I have a tendency to hit it with my right hand, and the sound is rarely pleasant when distorted. Third, the piezo tone needed to be tuned a little bit because it clipped at full volume when new. Finally, it doesn't have that insane crunch you need to do detuned metal, but I guess that's why they make the baritone version. Overall, this guitar covers all musical styles: Van Halen, Rush, James Brown, Willie Nelson, Chuck Berry, you name it. It also sounds pretty enough to play for choir at church. It's expensive, but the Petrucci reserve is worth every penny.

  • Mystic Green = Mystic Dream

As reviewed by mike on 6/21/2011

OK picked up my Ernie Ball JP model and was completely blown away. I've read the reviews but figured there was some hype, NOT. This guitar plays like a dream. I put a set of .009's on instead of the .010's they usually come with, a slight adjustment of the springs and BAM !! Shredalicious The good: Action is just perfect very low with no buzz. The sound of this guitar is also very good even when played through a crappy amp. Of course much better through a good one. The floating trem is also a bonus its very low to the body of the guitar and very smooth on top where your palm rest. Ergonomically speaking this thing has it all. Also, I love the birds eye maple neck very smooth and slippery. The BAD: Um they should have called it the Mystic Dream cuz thats what it plays like.
