  • This instrument is a work of art!

As reviewed by Arthur on 5/3/2010

This guitar is everything you could ask for in terms of sound, quality, looks, craftsmanship and comfort. It looks amazing you can really see the attention to detail that has been put into making this guitar. The pickups are the best I have ever heard and the piezo system works wonders. The guitar is built like a tank and can last you a lifetime if you look after it. It is the most comfortable guitar I have ever played. The finished neck is fast and feels amazing. If your a serious musician or even a hobbyist and your looking for a guitar that can do it all this is it. Ernie Ball Music Man did a wonderful job with this baby.

  • Excellent all Around Balance

As reviewed by Michael B on 6/28/2010

Ordering was fast and easy. Had one issue with getting the color I wanted. The picture on the web page was of a Bahama Blue Maple Burst and I told the salesperson that was the color I wanted. Just to the right of the picture under the List and Sales price lists the color Black Burst Flame Maple and when it arrived I almost said send it back. But the guitar was there in my hands, so I took it home. Later it revealed it's true colors. In certain light the Maple top is charcoal grey and in other lighting it is grape. Purple or Grape is not my first choice of color on anything but this guitar is so impressive to play I'm really starting to not care what color it came in. The weight distribution is perfect standing or sitting. I love that you can drop the top E string to D without worrying about the locking necks of most if not all other floating bridges. The back of the neck has a Gibson Les Paul/Fender Strat feel while the top is something more like an Ibanez. The acoustic sound or unplugged sound also reminds me a little of a Strat. These are all guitars I love especially Ibanez so I feel it is very well rounded and is suited to my playing style. Piezo is new to me and so far I like the different sounds I can get from alternate settings, however the guitar did not come with any instructions on how the pull knob and switches are wired. 10 gauge strings are something I've never tried before on an electric and I have to say I would not put 9's (what I've played for the past 21 years) on this guitar. Pinching, harmonics and sustain are like nothing I've heard on any other guitar and I'm playing on the same Marshall head I have been playing on for at least eight years. In other words I would recomend the JP6 BFR to anyone looking to get their hands on a professional playing, feeling and looking guitar.

  • This one is the Real Deal.

As reviewed by Mike on 11/22/2010

I went to the store to buy strings. Having tried a couple Ibanez Prestige guitars (I have two) to compare with a used BFR I decided as much as I would like to, I couldn't afford a BFR right now. Behind the counter the salesman were drooling over a guitar and since he knew I was looking at them, he held it up for me. It was a light blue John Petrucci BFR with a Roasted Maple neck. I've been holding off because of the finances but also, I just didn't like the color offerings of the BFR's but this one instantly said "don't leave here without me". Needless to say, i bought it on the spot. As I was leaving the store, the salesman were standing around saying they were jealous and that I had a real prize. But the best part was when I got it home and took a close look, tuned it up and played it. I have several beautiful and expensive guitars but this one absolutely blew them all away. The neck is a bit wider and thinner than a Prestige neck. I never thought I would find a better neck but this one make my Ibanez guitars feel like baseball bats. The sound was just perfection! In every mode and no matter how I tried the various combination's with the Piezo it put out a glorious tone. This neck is also absolutely beautiful! Looks like an old guitar neck with a golden tone. The Roasting bakes the wood until it's golden brown. It's supposed to close the wood pores and make it much stronger and more resistant to warping and humidity. All I can say is if there's any way you can afford one of these, you will thank me a million times. Just dust off all your other guitars once and a while.
