Excellent Guitar!
I've owned the EVH version of this guitar since '93. The Axis is for all practicality, the same guitar. Same pickups and virtually identical body and neck.
The two things I love about this guitar are the neck and it's pickups. The neck feels like it's been played and played and played the first time you pick it up. There is basically not break in period on this guitar. It feels like an old friend from the beginning. I will say that the neck is fairly narrow. So if you have large hands, it might be a problem.
And I've never heard pickups quite like these. They are warm and hot but not muddy or distorted. Honestly, if you're not playing rock, they would do very well for Jazz in my opinion; very warm and smooth. If you play a high gain amp they do an amazing job of eliminating the fuzzzzz that can go along with high gain. They also retain their clarity well.
Harmonics leap off the neck and the neck pickup is surprisingly expressive on all gain settings.
Obviously, the Floyd kind of makes it a rock machine. But it is blocked (not floating) so you could use it like a non trem guitar if you choose.
If you're looking for a slightly unconventional guitar that will feel like you're driving a Porsche, and sound just as good, check out the Axis.

My dream machine!
Here it is. A special guitar made in part, by a special musician. Eddie is a god and his MusicMan guitar isn't far behind. To start off it already plays like it has been on tour with Van Halen. Broken in and smooth as a babys' butt! It's unfinished maple neck is choice! Plus for me all I really wanted is a guitar with balanced weight, a humbucker pickup, a floyd bridge that doesn't float, and a nice thin neck that I can shread on! Untill I found this guitar I could only accomplish this by customizing my own. There is nothing I can say about this guitar that is bad. Versitile and very very easy too play. A must for any rock guitarist. If you see it pick it up! Your budget price shouldn't sway you from picking up this dream machine.

The Ceaser of Guitars
As soon as I picked up the axis, I was amazed by the feel, it was like I finally found something I had been searching for for all my life. The neck feels like one could blow on it and it would sound like Petrucci or Vai. My favorite part was the simplicity. Just a whammy, volume nob, and pickup switch. My only complaint is the look, Music Man would be considered the best guitars in the world if they weren't so freaking ugly. It's cliche to say that something isn't great because it looks bad, but we all know we're thinking it. Overall, it gets a 4.5.

Perfect...It's that simple!
I’ve owned this guitar since ’98 or so and I’m still in love with it to this day! The neck is the most amazing component of this guitar. I’ve played and owned many guitars since then yet I continue to comeback to this one. I’ve gigged with this guitar for years and never had a problem. This DiMarzios can scream, cry and deliver a bright and loud tone. This truly is an amazing guitar. Can’t wait to buy another.

best guitar ever
This guitar is sweet. I have only played it once and it feels like I have had it my whole life. The neck is on the smaller side but plays great. The pickups are the best sounding pickups I have ever heard. Over all the guitar has become my best friend and I have played it only once or twice. Not only is it the best guitar on the market but it is played by the best guitar player of all time, Eddie Van Halen. A must have.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
I have been a Van Halen fan for awhile and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge has always been my personal favorite album. Eddie recorded the album with his first ever EVH Signature guitar, made by Music Man. EVH left EBMM in 1995, but EBMM renamed the guitar as Axis. I got to play this guitar recently and boy was I surprised! The DiMarzio pickups are heaven sent and quite superior to any Seymour Duncan pickup I ever heard. It had the lows for classic DLR-ers riffs and the highs for any VH solos. I must admit though, the neck is quite simply the best neck ever, I've played Wolfs and while they sounded good, the neck just didn't feel right. The Axis's neck is narrow and quite the shredder.
The single volume knob is quite unique, it felt as though it was adjusting multiple different knobs creating the thought that you only need this one knob.
To summarize the Axis, I'll quote Ed's old Kramer ad: "It's quite simply the best guitar made today." Seriously, it truly is. If Ed used it, then so will I.

It's a beauty
I own this guitar for 2 years, and I figured out this guitar is basically designed for people who has small hands. Many reasons that I love this guitar, the neck is really smooth, the sustain, the warm tone, and you have good control over the tone. I play blues and rock with this guitar. With blues, the wet tone is just melting, and with rock, the hi-gain will just bring you up. Besides the look, I think it is worth to take this guitar home with you.

Amazing Guitar
This guitar is absolutely amazing! The frets make it easy to bend, it has a Floyd Rose Bridge for divebombs and effects, and it has the perfect tone. The weight is spectacular, it's easy to hold and play and it is played by the greatest guitarist ever, Eddie Van Halen. I wish I could buy this guitar. EVH rules!
