Overview

Smooth action gives the Moog EP2 Expression Pedal the feel musicians need for precise, playable control. The heavy construction (2.55 lbs.) provides a solid feel as the pedal stays firmly underfoot. An external output level control adjusts the range of the pedal's effect; sweeping across the full or a limited spectrum.

Usage:

A foot controller designed to enhance the expressive capabilities of the Minimoog Voyager, Little Phatty, Moogerfoogers and more. Connect to a control voltage input on any of your Moog equipment, adjust the attenuator for desired range and start playing!

Application Suggestions:

Connect to the Rate control input of your MF-105 MuRF. Set Rate control in middle of desired range. Adjust attenuator for total range in toe position. Connect to the Frequency control input of the MF-102 Ring Modulator. Set Frequency control for minimum desired setting. Adjust the Moog pedal's attenuator for maximum desired setting in toe position.

I have tried a couple of "Cheaper" expression pedals with my mooogerfoogers, and found that the meager price savings were an absolute waste. The Roland EV-5 has very little range in comparison, for instance. The Ep-2 has recently been priced more affordably than when I first ordered them. I now own 5! I want at least 3 more! I do have to tell you that there is one minor, but note-worthy flaw. They come with the bolts a little bit loose on the pedal so that it has a tendency to slip from the "heel" range, so just tighten it up a little with a socket wrench and you are absolutely set. Also it takes the depth of every parameter on a moogerfooger from +-5 volts to +-5.7 volts. YOu can make dogs run in circles with a Ep-2 in the cutoff input on the Low Pass Filter!

This is an excellent, sturdy pedal that is very responsive. Would recommend to anyone, specifically keyboardists, interested in an expression pedal !

HOWEVER,

The Boss RE-20 (space echo) does not like this pedal at all. They seem to be incompatible as parameters "stick" once controlled by the EP-2.

So, if you're interested in buying this to warp time on your space echo, like I did, I strongly advise against it.

Fair product, but got wrong info for use

By 2BluesMan

Pros

  • Inexpensive Fair Build

Cons

  • Cable Hardwired To Unit
  • Plastic construction

Best Uses

  • Light Live Use Home Use

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

Unit would probably be ok as was quite inexpensive after applied coupon. Hard use may not be the best as plastic construction. It is what it is. I was given wrong info prior to buying by MF rep as I wanted it for an expression pedal for a Line 6 M5 unit. It will not work with it, period. The M5 needs to see around a 10k pot as I found out. After doing some research, the EP-2 has something like a 250k pot. Could replace the pot but it would be a hell of a job and you'd have to have the exact pot. I am disappointed by the mis-info from the sales rep. But, I'll keep it for the low price and may trade or sell it.

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

The EP2 works great with the moogerfoogers. I bought it to use with the low pass filter. It's very responsive yet fluid. The chassis is solid and heavy. I was surprised because the price is so low. I use a roland exp with other pedals and really like it but the ep2 is half the price and awesome. Highly recommend!!

Works on my Korg M50 and Juno Stage

      By Ray Driscoll

      from SF Bay Area

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

I use a Yamaha foot pedal (more rugged case than Moog or Roland) on my Korg M50 but the Yama won't work on my Juno Stage. I used a Roland EV-5 on my Juno Stage but that wouldn't work with the Korg. The Moog works with both! I'm sold. I even bought a second Moog.
My Moog EP-2 does what it is supposed to with no problems. And it works with my Juno Stage and Korg M50. I had been using a Roland EV-5 on my Juno Stage but I barely pulled back on the pedal and the volume went away much too rapidly no matter how I set the adjustment knob. Yuch! Now with the EP-2 I have the GRADUAL volume control I want in my foot pedal.
I haven't had a problem with durability yet. A lot if not most audio equipment these days are made out of plastic, not the ruggedness(and extra heaviness) of the old days. I haven't concluded yet whether that's good or bad overall. My Roland EV-5 is plasticky but I am replacing it with the Moog EP-2 pedal not because of durability but because of the lack of foot control I have controlling gradual changes in volume.
Reasonable price, works well. Works better than my Roland EV-5.

Good at what it does, until it doesn't

      By Daniel Elliott

      from Kerrville, TX

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

I'd consider buying one of these again as a back-up to a more durable pedal, and I'm keeping the one I shelled with 6 months of regular use for spare parts, but if you're looking for quality gigging equipment, I'd go to a more durable pedal.
Standard features for any given expression pedal; decent sweep, attenuator knob, and the like. Heavy base was a plus too, kept the pedal fairly rooted while playing.
Be VERY careful not to overtighten anything screwing into the cheap plastic casing...or risk a potentially catastrophic mid-gig (or mid-maintenance) crack in the casing. Seemed to not respond particularly well to excess foot pressure; I tended to get garbled wah-sweeps when I put any weight on the thing, unless I twisted my foot in this just-right way...not worth the hassle, honestly.
Pedal was pretty cheap, and certainly lasted me longer than an M-Audio EXP, but it did cause a lot of headaches...probably should have gone with a slightly more durable pedal (which can be found for only a little more than Moog charges for this one).

      Good... until it breaks

      By Popeye Jr.

      from Northvale New Jersey

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

The pedal was wonderful for my AW-3 boss wah, while it worked. After a few months, the wire on the end broke at the soldered part of it. It was unusable! Even though the expression was flawless and the movement was fluid, it needs to be sturdier at the place that is most important. Sorry guys.

      Moog Expression Pedal

      By maschoff

      from Berkeley Ca

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

Nice height, weight and size. Good sturdy construction. Could easily throw this through a car window, dust it off and get right back to jamming. Worked right out of the box and has a adjustment knob so you can change the range of the unit right at your foot. I use this to operate the Wah on my TC G-Force. All in all, very natural to use. Bought this and was going to try others but decided just to by another one of these for the price. Now I have two! And more will come ...

      Moog Ep-2

      By Jonathan

      from NOLA

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

I tried out a variety of pedals that were in stock before going ahead and ordering the Ep-2. I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by just getting it to begin with. I use it with the Mooger Fooger Low Pass Filter Cutoff. It's the only pedal I could find has a smooth sweep across any range that you set it at. Set it low and get really smooth electronica filter sweeps. Set it mid range and get a nice wah sound. Or, set the resonance up high and have a wild theremin-like sound that you can control with your feet.

      is this moog or china?

      By Anonymous

Comments about Moog EP-2 Expression Pedal:

I ordered the Moog pedal because I thought it would be solid, like their pedals - NOT! It's made out of plastic and there's a string connecting to the pedal to the control! Why has Moog forsaken me?
